(Usually takes me less than 10 minutes from spawning, to getting back to the Nexus.)

After completing level 1-1 return to the Nexus (spend souls if desired). Return to the archstone and proceed to the left tower and make your way up, then go straight across the platform (the one with several catapults). Go into the small tower room and turn left. You will find a lone enemy standing at the other end of the bridge. Simply defeating this one enemy will grant you 2000 souls! (that's more than you received for defeating the first boss!) I found the easiest way to defeat him is using projectiles/spells and strafe backwards, because you do NOT want him close enough to hit you. There you have it, 2000 souls from one enemy, plus the souls from 10 (or 20, depending on which archstone you spawn from) enemies along the way!
