Stats
There are eight statistics that measure the power of your player character. As with all things in Boletaria, you will need Souls to improve them, but you will not be able to until you at least complete the first stage of the game and speak to the Maiden in Black.
The cost of improving your statistics is determined by your soul level. Your soul level is an indicator of how many points have been allocated to your character's stats beyond the initial 80 that are available to all characters, and this is initially determined by your class. An important note about your soul level is it is the only factor that controls your base physical defense.
Vitality
Vitality determines your hit points, before modification. It also controls how much weight you can carry.
Be aware that when you lose your body, your soul form will normally have half of your body's hit points. However, if your character and world tendency lean towards Black, your hit points may dip even lower. Whatever your soul form's max hit points, the Cling Ring will improve it by 40%, making it a must.
| Vitality | Body HP | Maximum Load | Soul HP | Near Black Character or World Tendency Soul HP | Near Black Character and World Tendency Soul HP | Pure Black Character or World Tendency Soul HP | Pure Black Character and World Tendency Soul HP |

Intelligence
Intelligence controls how many spell slots you have as well as your MP. Spells may require multiple slots to be equipped, and you will need an intelligence of 10 to have any spell slots at all. In order to use Spells you will need either a Wooden Catalyst or a Silver Catalyst.
| Intelligence | Spell Slots | MP |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1 | 65 |
| 14 | 2 | 97 |
| 18 | 3 | 119 |
| 24 | 4 | 157 |
| 30 | 5 | 200 |
| 40 | 6 | 280 |
| 99 | 6 | 450 |
Endurance
Endurance will be a very important statistic during your adventures, as it controls your maximum stamina and the maximum amount of weight you can equip at one time. Keep the weight of your current equipment under half of your maximum, and you will experience no loss of speed or maneuverability.
Stamina is lost when attacking, dodging and, if your strength is too low, blocking. It will max out at 40 Endurance, but Endurance remains important as it improves your resistance to poison and bleed. And just as Faith has the greatest impact on your magic defense, Endurance has the greatest impact of all stats on your fire resistance.
| Endurance | Stamina | Maximum Equip | Bleed Resistance | Poison Resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 88 | 37 | 33 | 26 |
| 10 | 91 | 39 | 40 | 30 |
| 20 | 100 | 49 | 73 | 73 |
| 40 | 160 | 69 | 107 | 107 |
| 70 | 160 | 99 | 129 | 129 |
| 99 | 160 | 128 | 150 | 150 |
Strength
In most RPGs, Strength is the primary damage stat of most adventurers. In Demon's Souls, its primary use is in determining if a weapon can be wielded at all; its contribution to damage varies from weapon to weapon. See Equipment.
If you find yourself unable to equip a new weapon, try equipping it in both hands. Using both hands effectively increases your strength score by 50% for equipment requirements. This allows you to use more powerful or restricted weapons more easily. An important note is that since all bows are by default two-handed, your strength score only needs to be 2/3s of what is indicated by the weapon's requirements. For example, a longbow requires Strength of 15 to equip, but because it must be used in two hands, you only need a strength of 10 to use it. Be aware that two handing a weapon does not necessarily increase strength's contribution to damage though.
Dexterity
Dexterity is another statistic that is used to determine if you are able to equip an item, but it also plays a part in making sure you can survive a landing should you drop off an elevated surface. Just bear in mind that no amount of dexterity can save you from falling off a sheer cliff.
Many weapons also benefit from increasing dexterity, but this is determined entirely by the weapon.
Magic
Magic determines the damage dealt by your Spells, and this effect can be influenced by the magical catalyst you have equipped.
Faith
Miracles require a certain amount of faith to be used. It may seem at first that Faith has limited value, but it is effective at increasing magical defense, which receives a greater buff from Faith than it does from all other stats. In order to use Miracles you will need either the Talisman of God or the Talisman of the Beast.
It is also important when using any blessed weapons, which scale in effectiveness based on this statistic.
| Faith | 10 | 16 | 24 | 36 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miracle Slots | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
Luck
Luck influences drop rates from enemies, and by 30 the item drop rate is doubled from what it would be at 0, and it improves from there to almost five times the normal rate when you hit 99. Bear in mind, though, that this only influences the amount of items dropped, and not their quality.
Luck's other important feature is plague resistance.
| Luck | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40 | 60 | 80 | 99 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plague Resistance | 20 | 73 | 100 | 107 | 122 | 136 | 150 |
