The Soldier is considered to be the "Default Class" of Demon's Souls giving the player a good all around start in the game. Any player wanting to focus on a melee character will do well with this class. It lacks in variety though and those who are interested in starting with a more caster oriented class or want ranged attacks from the beginning should look elsewhere. Soldier's come equipped with a Broadsword, Spear, Soldier's Shield, and a full set of Plate Armor.
Pros:
- The best all around starter class for melee with high health and good armor.
- Balanced weapon selection, the Broadsword is versatile and causes bleeds while the Spear has reach and can be used while blocking with a shield.
- Can gain access to Spells with only 3 additional soul levels and already qualifies for Miracles.
- Starting stats grant access to a broad range of weapons and shields from the very beginning.
Cons:
- No Spells are known at character creation.
- Wearing all of the plate armor will limit the effectiveness of dodge rolls.
- The Soldier's Shield does not have 100% damage cut.
- Like many classes it has no true ranged attack option on creation.
