Selen Vinland

Selen Vinland is the sister of Garl Vinland and can be found in the Valley of Defilement, section 5-2. She either sits or stands on a small island with a candle on it, just past and to the right of the first Fog Gate. Selen Vinland will only appear if you have obtained Pure White or Pure Black World Tendency.

Strategy

Selen Vinland is not restricted by the poison mud like you are, so try and not face her head to head. She can cast heals when her HP is low and Anti-Magic Field if you do decide to cast magic. The best way for you to kill her is to sneak up behind her (you can get close enough to backstab her with max hiding effect and her not noticing at all) and backstab her and kill her as quickly as possible. Blind passes through shields, so knockdown and two-handing should be priorities. The fastest and BEST way to kill her (if you don't want tendency changes, for your character), use Soul Sucker. It is possible for you to get close enough to suck the life out of her and since she is not a boss she dies in one hit. You also get double souls for it.

Pure White World Tendency

In Pure White World Tendency, Selen Vinland will talk about how she has entered the swamp to look for he brother, Garl Vinland. You will learn a fair bit of the back story of the Valley of Defilement from her. Selen Vinland will ask you to help locate her Brother. See the Selen Vinland Sidequest for full details.

If you decide to attack and kill Selen Vinland, she will drop a set of Beggar's Armor and your Character Tendency will shift about 40% towards Black.

Pure Black World Tendency

If the Valley of Defilement is in Pure Black World Tendency you will find the Black Phantom Selen Vinland - and expect a fight. She can move fast and roll in the swamp, however you can not. This makes the fight a bit harder. Selen Vinland will use Anti-Magic Field and Heal on her self. She also uses Blind which will make your shield useless.

Black Phantom Selen Vinland will drop Blind when defeated. The World Tendency will shift 90% towards white on return to the Nexus, so you may want to check out the Valley of Defilement Primeval Demon before returning. Your Character Tendency will shift 20% towards white as well.

Sidequest

The Selen Vinland sidequest takes place in the Valley of Defilement, section 5-2 and 5-3 and requires Pure White World Tendency. It also involves Garl Vinland and Maiden Astraea.

You will pick up two unique items while working through this quest. The first is Bramd, a heavy, unique hammer weapon and the second is the Ring of Devout Prayer, which will increases miracle memory capacity by 1.

First, you need to get the Valley of Defilement into Pure White World Tendency. To do this, follow the How to obtain a Pure World Tendency steps.

While obtaining Pure White World Tendency you will notice you have to defeat Garl Vinland, however he does not drop the Crest of Vinland, which is the item Selen Vinland is after. It is the Black Phantom Garl Vinland that will drop it.

Once you have PWWT, enter the Valley of Defilement at the Leechmonger Archstone, then follow these steps:

1. Selen Vinland can be found in the swamp of section 5-2 on an island with a candle on it. After the first fog gate at the start of the walkway that is heading up, jump off to the right and you should find her.
2. Selen Vinland will tell you that she is looking for her brother Garl Vinland and if you find him to tell him so. If you do not have PWWT, she will not be there. Come back when you do.
   • Even if you have already meet and defeated Garl Vinland, you need to obtain the Crest of Vinland which is dropped from the Black Phantom Garl Vinland.
3. After talking to Selen Vinland, work your way towards where you fought Garl Vinland before. The Black Phantom Garl Vinland can be found close to where you meet the Human Form version. Once defeated he will drop the Crest of Vinland (if you spoke to his sister first) and Bramd. The Bramd has a weight of 36, so be prepared to carry it!
   • Black Phantom Garl Vinland will not appear until you have Maiden Astraea's Soul and returned to the Nexus - even if you have obtained PWWT before obtaining her Soul.
   • You can sneak up on Black Phantom Garl Vinland by entering from the final Archstone of the Valley of Defilement. This will allow you to get a easy first hit on him.
4. Do not return to the Nexus after defeating the Black Phantom (as this will change the World Tendency), you need to give the Crest to Selen in Pure White World Tendency.
5. Make your way back to Selen Vinland and give her the Crest of Vinland and she will give you the Ring of Devout Prayer
