Lord Rydell

Trapped in the Tower of Latria prison (section 3-1) is the Blue Phantom Lord Rydell. To free him will required you to:

• Get the Tower of Latria into Pure White World Tendency.
• Locate the Prison of Hope, 2F W. Cells Key at the top of the first chain tower in section 3-2 (a bridge will appear).
• Use the Prison of Hope, 2F W. Cells Key to unlock Lord Rydell's cell in section 3-1.

Once you have done this, Lord Rydell will give you the Dull Rat's Ring. Also, a section of the prison which contains a number of nice pick-ups will become unlocked. The entrance for this section is on the same floor as the Crystal Lizard and not far from it. In the now unlocked section you will find the dead body of Lord Rydell on the ground, a Legendary Hero's Soul and a key for the final other cells.

Fighting and defeating the Blue Phantom Lord Rydell will shift the World Tendency of the Tower of Latria 90% towards Black. Your Character Tendency will also shift 40% towards black. Fighting Blue Phantom Lord Rydell will also lead to the final cells remaining locked until the next play through.

Black Phantom Lord Rydell

If you enter the Tower of Latria, section 3-1 when it is in Pure Black World Tendency, a Black Phantom Lord Rydell will be found outside his cell and aggressive.

Once defeated the Black Phantom will drop the Phosphorescent Pole, which is a unique weapon. The World Tendency for the Tower of Latria will shift 90% towards White and your Character Tendency will shift 20% towards White.

You may want to visit the Primeval Demon in section 3-2 before returning to the Nexus.

Strategy

If you are having problems defeating the Black Phantom Lord Rydell the following may help:

• Lord Rydell has some issues swinging the Phosphorescent Pole in the tight sections of the walkway and the stairways, if you can get him to chase you there. However, make sure you can fight in the tight section.
• The Thief's Ring or the Graverobber's Ring and a good Bow in sniper mode will chip away at his health. Dying ATK Power UP will speed things up a lot.
• Soul Remains or an arrow can be used to distract Lord Rydell. Once Rydell has investigated the distraction he will return to his post, allowing you to get a an easy backstab or heavy hit in. Using the Thief's Ring or the Graverobber's Ring will make this a lot easier as you can get a lot closer. This can be repeated.
• A heavy hitting weapon like the Dozer Axe, Meat Cleaver or Dragon Bone Smasher will knock him down, then just hit him again as he gets up.
• He can be infected with Plague either from the Baby's Nail or Death Cloud.
