Maiden Astraea

Maiden Astraea will ask you to leave her alone when you enter her den and when you do not leave, she will send Garl Vinland to protect her.
After defeating her bodyguard, simply approach her and select the talk option. Maiden Astraea will offer up her Pureblood Demon's Soul without a fight.
Alternatively, take out the worshipers, arm yourself with a good quality Bow and take aim at Maiden Astraea from the top right of the den as you enter. Maiden Astraea will heal herself, but with a decent Bow you should be able to take her out. Once defeated, reload the current game and Garl Vinland will be dead as well. Collect the items and return to the Nexus.
If you really want to fight Maiden Astraea melee style, her God's Wrath may quickly take you out.
Take note; Spending time in the swamp will cause you to be infected with plague. Getting close to the edge of the swamp will attract the attention of the Filthy Ones. These little guys are vicious if they get close enough to you.
Use Widow's Lotus or Dark Moon Grass to heal yourself from plague if you get infected.
