Basics
Q: What kind of game is it? Action-RPG?
A: It is a stage based Action-RPG. The RPG elements are item collection, upgrading stats, customized appearance, and some puzzle elements.
Q: Is it a sequel to King's Field?
A: It is considered the be the "spiritual successor" to the King's Field series but playes very differently and is considered independent as well as a separate series. The only homage or connection it bears directly to the older series is the presence of the Large Sword of Moonlight a weapon any King's Field fan will recognize instantly.
Q: Is it an MMORPG?
A: No. It's a single player centered game with online elements. There are no service charges for online play.
Q: Do you have to play online?
The game can be played off-line and still have the full game experience. Playing online adds many hint features such as the messaging and wandering apparitions, plus cooperative and player-vs-player.
Q: How do I play online?
A: You will need a broadband connection and a PSN account. See Network Setup for more details.
Q: Will this come out on Xbox 360?
A: No. This is a PS3 exclusive game.
Q: What is the number of players online?
A: On the package, the number of players onine is listed as 1 to 4. What this meant was that you can call up to 2 players co-op (Blue Phantom), and by chance 1 player pvp (Black Phantom).
1 (yourself) + 2 (Blue Phantoms) + 1 (Black Phantom) = 4.
Note: Sometimes a glitch may occur and there is a possibility that there will be not 2 but 3 blue phantoms and sometimes, you will get invaded by 2 black phantoms at the same time so the maximum of players online will be 6.
Character Creation
Q: How many characters can I make?
A: Up to 4 characters per user.
Q: We have to choose classes, but am I stuck with it?
A: No. The classes define your base parameters and equipment. You are free to level up stats and learn magic/miracles as you wish.
Q: I'm a beginner. What class do you recommend?
A: This depends on your style of gameplay, but "Royal" is often recommended. This is because this class is nimble and can use a powerful magic "Soul Arrow" from the beginning. He/She also has a magic ring that recovers MP (this can be found in later stages). "Temple Knight" is also recommended for their Halberds that inflict high damage. For other classes, test around to get a feel for each style.
Early Stages
Q: How do you level up? I keep killing enemies, but nothing changes!
A: Unlike other RPGs, your characters do not automatically level up. You must accumulate Souls by defeating enemies and exchange it with the Maiden in Black at the Nexus into the parameter of your choice. The catch is that you must first defeat the major demon Phalanx of Boletaria Castle before starting to level up. Your first goal will be to clear the first stage. Also, the Maiden in Black will not allow you to spend souls to increase your stats until you first talk to the Monumental.
Q: So where is the Maiden in Black?
A: The Maiden in Black is in the Nexus. Everytime you enter the Nexus, she will wander about to a different location around the central circle in the Nexus. Look around carefully if you can't find her.
Q: Where is the Monumental?
A: The Monumental is high above in the Nexus. Take the outside flight of stairs and keep going up. Near the top of the stairs, there is a loft on the left side where you will find the Monumental with a candle lit in front of him.
Q: I like the online features, but hate PvP!
A: As long as you are in Soul Form, nobody will be able to invade your game. Although your HP maybe lower, you can keep playing without the threat of invasion. If you'd rather keep your physical form, always summon Blue Phantoms while playing online and use rings to hide your presence.
