Unique and Valuable Weapons

These are one-of-a-kind weapons and shields that are typically very strong and generally require Colorless Demon's Souls to upgrade, or are created from combining a Demon's Soul with an existing weapon. See the Unique Weapons Category for a complete list. All of the Unique Weapons are required for the Soldier's Trophy.

Weapons

Weapons are broken up into groups. This is mostly to help you to find the weapon you are looking for quickly. There are about 100 different weapons in the game. A simple list would not be very practical or efficient.

  • Axes
Axes, like large swords, are used to make wide strikes. They are heavier than most swords, so they tend to consume more stamina. Be careful.
  • Large Axes
These powerful weapons use their momentum to knock their victims around, but mind your surroundings and avoid using them in tight quarters.
  • Bows
Bows are perfect range weapons for hunting Crystal Lizards, and for sniping targets you want to keep at a distance.
  • Crossbows
Unlike a bow, you cannot snipe with a crossbow, but they allow you to effectively shoot while moving. Crossbows can not be upgraded.
  • Curved Swords
For those looking to move quickly and hit decisively, there are curved swords. They're not as fast as daggers, but enjoy a longer reach and generally higher attack power.
  • Daggers
Daggers use a rapid fire combo attack that can stagger a target, especially if they have been taken from behind in a surprise attack, where the dagger gains bonus damage!
  • Fist Weapons
Faster perhaps even than the dagger (not quite, actually; daggers have the fastest attack swing), fist weapons are only for those willing to go toe-to-toe with the worst Boletaria has to offer. But if you are willing to risk it you may be able to stagger your enemies out of retaliating.
  • Hammers
These blunt weapons are especially effective against the undead, and make life in Shrine of Storms, section 4-1 much easier.
  • Large Hammers
Large Hammers drain your enemy's will to fight, exhausting their stamina. These powerful weapons use their momentum to knock their victims around, but mind your surroundings and avoid using them in tight quarters.
  • Katanas
Katanas tend to be quick, combining piercing and slashing damage types.
  • Pole Weapons
Pole Weapons have solid reach and both sweeping and piercing attacks.
  • Rapiers
Rapiers excel at piercing attacks, and can be used effectively with a shield to keep your enemies at bay.
  • Spears
The long reach of a spear coupled with it's piercing attack makes it a great asset for defensive play. But be aware that you may not be able to handle crowds in open spaces so easily. Like rapiers, they can be thrusted while your shield is up.
  • Straight Swords
Straight swords are a mainstay of any army and can be used for sweeping strikes in open areas or direct piercing attacks suitable for compact corridors, though their range is naturally more limited than that of a spear.
  • Large Swords
Large Swords lack some of the utility of straight swords, but their increased size makes them perfect for clearing out large areas. Beware of obstructions, however, as walls and pillars will stop your swings.
  • Extra Large Swords
Extra-large swords lend their incredible mass towards knocking the target down. With sufficient strength and skill, it's possible to lock the enemy down under a steady barrage of heavy strikes.

Magic and Miracles

A Catalyst or a Talisman must be held in either the left or right hand to cast Magic or a Miracle.

  • Catalysts
Without a catalyst, you cannot cast a spell, but in a pinch you can bash someone with it too.
  • Talismans
Essential to the performance of miracles. May also be used to bash.

Defensive Equipment

Armor is your protective gear in Demon's Souls, helping you to live longer. Armor can not be upgraded. Most Shields and Large Shields on the other hand, can be upgraded.

A few spells and miracles also have defensive affects.

  • Torso Armor
Armor for your torso. These provide most of your physical defense and equipment weight. (The heaviest but strongest part of armor)
  • Gauntlets
Armor for your hands. Usually the lighter armor type, may provide bonuses or protection from certain status. Usually not too heavy.
  • Leggings
Armor for your legs and feet.
  • Shields
Normally, you will use these to stop incoming damage. If your strength meets the requirements for the shield, you will not lose (much) stamina from absorbing the impact. If you can successfully parry, you can use your weapon to riposte for critical damage. There are standard, light shields, and there are heavier, stronger shields.
  • Large Shields
Generally more effective at absorbing blows, it's possible to bash someone with a large shield, but you can no longer parry and riposte. Takes more strength to wield. Bashing someone with a large shield may, or may not knock an enemy back, depending on their strength or stature. If you aren't good at parrying or performing a riposte, a large shield is the way to go!

Rings

Rings have a variety of effects when equipped. There are a lot of rings in the game, but only two rings can be equipped at once. If you have two identical rings, you will only be able to wear one of them at a time.

Ammo

Both Bows and Crossbows require ammo to fire. Bows use arrows and Crossbows use bolts.

  • Arrows
Ammo for your bow. There is a variety arrows available from treasures and Merchants.
  • Bolts
Armmo for your crossbow. There is a variety bolts available from treasures and Merchants, but not as many as arrows.
