Darkmoonstone can be found throughout Shrine of Storms from defeating Grim Reaperss, Crystal Lizards or the Black Phantom in the pit with Saint Urbain. Shards can be purchased from Graverobber Blige. Pure Darkmoonstones are dropped by Crystal Lizards in sections 4-2 and 4-3.

Upgrading a weapon with Darkmoonstone will add a Crescent prefix to the weapons name, adds a decent A level stat bonus for Magic, but removes others. Crescent weapons will slowly regenerate your MP. The aura from MP regeneration is visible to other players even if you are wearing either Thief's Ring or Graverobber's Ring.

All supported Crescent weapon upgrades start from +6. Crescent weapons can not be Enchanted with either spells or items.

Only Blacksmith Ed can upgrade weapons with Darkmoonstone.

Note: The Crescent Axe is not a Darkmoonstone upgraded weapon, nor is it a support weapon.

Upgrade damage bonuses

Crescent weapons have a fair base level of Magic Damage and a good A level stat bonus at +5 on Magic. The lower base level damage of Crescent weapons means the Moon weapons are a better choice for early on in the game, but once your Magic level is high enough, the Crescent weapons will become the better choice.

Crescent weapons slowly regenerate your MP when held. Holding two Crescent weapons will mean faster MP regeneration but only if the weapons are at different levels. For example, holding a +4 and a +5 is faster than holding two +5 weapons.
