Default think about trying this series

i have played almost every turn based rpg from final fantasy 7 to nocturne

i want to try this series but i am nervous about the difficulty

now i heard shin megami tensei 3 nocturne was horribly hard
but i beat it on both difficulties quite easily and yes i did true demon

i heard devil survivor was tough but i beat the #### out of that

i don't want to replay levels a thousand times if i can beat the above easily
how do you think i will do with etrian odyssey 1 ?

also i hate drawing i heard something about drawing maps please don't tell
me i have to draw detailed pictures with the stylus
i don't mind just selecting various icons and placing them or something
just let me know please i need information before i lose this deal
it is fairly cheap right now please give me a answer soon

well i've only played EO III, and it's a hard game, but not Nocturne hard....more like old school tough. Like an easier Wizardry that was suddenly modernized.

Yeah you have to draw your maps though... but again going back to the old school talk, when you played an rpg in the 80's you needed to draw your map with pen & paper. So the touchscreen takes advantage of it by not needing pen & paper and making you draw with the stylus on the touchscreen.

I had fun with it. I can confidently tell you Etrian Odyssey is the second best game series Atlus has behind SMT.

Now thats my opinion, I recommend you read a few reviews & see a couple of youtube videos to help you make a decision.

Kind of an old thread but I just love to rep etrian odyssey's awesomeness. You sound a lot like me as far as game preferences and skill goes. I also heard Devil Survivor was hard but I raped the Bels only having somewhat of a problem with Beldr (cause of my magic nuke with 4 or 5 st ). Anyways I have played Etrian Odyssey 1 and 3 and the third one is definitely worth playing! Sure it's difficult in some places, but only because it requires strategy. If you were able to beat Nocturne and Devil Survivor with ease I'm sure you will enjoy the difficulty in EO3, as I found it slightly harder than the 2.
The mapping in the game also put me off for a while, but you will find that it actually compliments to the exploration aspects of the game very well and it is quite useful to make notes of places you need to return to later. It auto maps the ground you cover which makes it much less tedious than one would expect. EO3 is worth your time and money IMO!
