I really don't accept this!!!!

everytime i read a review of Catherine, every website said that this game is to difficult and than catherine review score was reduce 2 or 3, i know is difficult but i think difficult is exciting

I agree with you, I think it's a bit disheartening to see a score pulled down just because the reviewer found it too difficult, but I also see where they are (hypothetically) coming from. In an ideal reviewing world, they're trying to find what most people would see as 'too' difficult. If the vast majority of people would find a game unbalanced and unfairly hard, I can see that affecting the score.

That said, this is not the case with Catherine. Every review I've seen so far that has complained about the difficulty hasn't expanded on it at all. We have no idea what difficulty the reviewer is playing on, they never say. Are they trying it on Normal and refuse to go down to Easy? Are they trying it on Easy and it really is that difficult? Who knows. They just say 'it's too hard' and mark it down, even though Atlus has built in so many ways to make this game accessible to people of all skills.

That said, the review scores are still really really great on the whole.

I completely agree with saruthelemur, I will still buy the game because I know for a fact that it will be good. But if you think about it the same thing has already happened previously, with Demon's Souls.. So many people gave it bad, dull and stupid reviews planely due to the fact that it didnt hold your hand was a good challenge. Demon's Souls is one of my favourite games of all time and will remain so despite what non-skilled players reviews hold for me. So hopefully this will be the same with Catherine, and as I have good faith with Atlus I believe it will be better than ever!

Now give me a european release date pleeeease

Difficult? They added the undo function into the normal mode, along with getting two retries per mystic pillow rather then one. If anything, it'll be easy now.

Wasn't Demon Souls actually praised a lot simply for being very difficult? I think that was what appealed to people the most, the fact it was so seemingly impossible to beat, even though it was fair with you, not cheap.

That's what I believe is important to know about Catherine. If it's cheap then yeah, critics should complain about it's difficulty but if it's fair then it's kinda unreasonable to bash the game.

You know when it comes to games there are really two types of difficulty that people run into.

One is the issue of making something require split second timing that must be performed precisely at the right second or its game over. I think of games like Dragon's Lair where you used to be able to drop a whole roll of quarters in like 20 minutes. These types of games use reaction to the action as the ultimate ruler as to wether or not your a good gamer.

The other difficulty is the one that requires careful planning and thought sometimes required even some reflexes but the emphassis is on knowledge and planning so that you succeed. You see this in games like Demon Soul's or as another example raids in MMOs that require roles and strategy to get through.

If you look at the modern gamer though based on the type of games that sell the most, difficulty of either type mentioned rarely plays a role in the gameplay. I personally think the casual gamer influence on a lot of devs has caused them to lower the bar to make games more accessible to more people. The thought I'm sure is if its too difficult its not good. What does this really say about our society? That if its too hard then its not worth doing? I know I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill but it really does seem to be that way.

And yes I don't mind an occasional fluffy game when I'm not up for an extensive brain working after a long day but for me the games I enjoy the most are the ones that draw me in with their story and really make my brain work to get through them.
