Are there other games from FROM software that are like Demon's Souls?
This game has captivated me and I'm enjoying it immensely. Are there others like it? I mean with realistic, action based combat, dark fantasy themes, detailed worlds, etc.? Or is this their first? If so I hope others like it come along. This is an ideal game for my interests.

I never played them, but this is a spiritual successor to the king's field games. They are 1st person action rpgs and from the videos on youtube, they seem to have very slow combat (the games seem similar to Elder Scrolls in gameplay, but with a darker theme).

Armored Core: For Answer is a bit like Demon's Souls, but with giant mecha. Don't believe me? Just try to beat the evil ending without cheating.

Not on PS3, no there are no games like it.
On PS2 there are Kings Fields and Eternal Ring. Eternal Ring is actually a bit like Demon's Souls, only w/ RINGS! The pathing in that game was real hard to get used to. Eternal Ring is like a prototype for DS...not nearly as fun.
As for non FROM software games that are similar to DS
Drakan TAG for the PS2. Only more freedom/open world. Same idea, action combat, level up in points, fight your way to a boss. And ride a dragon!
Drakan TAG is much easier than DS, but the combat is looser and the flying dragon action is pretty darn cool. IMO one of the top 10 games on the PS2..

phew you are brave man....the sheer number of issues and bugs that got released in this game makes me VERY weary of this developer.....i dont think that they are on the same unprofessional level as Slant Six Games....but this game does have it bad....especially with MAJOR Npcs such as Ed
not to mention the fact i havnt so much as saw a casual response from the to this overwhelming amount of NPC and boss (maneater) issues, many of which are game breaking
for example....for the THIRD diff char in a row, when i get them to NG+ my Ed glitches and wil only say 1 line and 1 line only....so now with this new tourney coming up i cant even make any damn weapons or upgrade my ####.....i get to play with what ive already made or non demons soul items (despite specifically farming the colorless demons souls to do what i needed to do for the pvp tourney)
future titles with this dev FROM Software deserve a grace period of seeing how many issues they let their game release with and if they even care to address them (like the dragon god issue they announced)

Like has already been said, Demon's Souls is the spiritual successor to the King's Field series. The only thing they really have in common is atmosphere (of which I think King's Field is superior). They are very slow plodding along games, with very minimal NPC interaction, and a huge feeling of isolation. If you like atmospheric games you should try 'em out. Do note, however, that in combat and game-play mechanics, the games are almost nothing alike.

Don't forget the sword of Moonlight Septiego they have that in common too. Thematically the two games are very similar to be honest but yes the game play is not alike. If you want to try them out I suggest King's Field 4 commonly reffered to as King's Field: The Ancient City. It was the only game in the series for the PS2 and is probably the best of them all.

I believe I played a Kings Field game on the Ps1? I forgot it's title but the game was just awful. At first it had the standard RPG story...something about destroyed kingdom, saving the people, typical rpg type stuff. Then when I finally beat it somehow I'm being crowned the demon king and I have no idea what led up to that as there was no indication of me even wanting to be king, and the ending had nothing to do with what the story I'd actually understood prior to this.
My favorite Armored Core title wasn't from FROM IIRC. Master of Arena was from AgeTec...man I miss the Master of Arena/previous titles format.
For Answer is the only good AC title I've played after Master of Arena, Silent Line was awful, 2 was awful 3 was HORRID. I haven't played AC4.

Yeah whatever this was it wasn't Kings Field. King's Field's way of telling a story is basically ripped off for Demon's Souls. Few NPC's, no cut scenes, all told through the action and the atmosphere for the most part. None of them end with you becoming a demon....

The game doesn't have that many bugs, actually. And I've never encountered a single bug in a hundred + hours of playing. If you think Demon's Souls is bad, your head would explode if you tried Oblivion or Fallout 3.

wow dude, are you serious? heres off the top of my head, and this is just in the last few days
1. i farm purebladestones 9 times outta 10 when i kill the reaper on the way there he falls though the floor or though the wall and i cannot get his loot
2. i blast man eater as he takes off and then he falls down to the swamp below and gets stuck so i get to re play it again (numerous times until i pretty much let them beat me to death in the middle 2v1 just so they wouldnt fall off
3. NG+ i kill everything in world 2, i go to ed with my Red Hot Demon's Soul.....i hit the talk option 53 times, he says the Ores are sprites line 53 times and does nothing else, hes worthless for the entire playthough]
4. i tried to summon a friend last night and he tried to summon me, and in different areas....the game/servers refused to let us join game....but i have no issues and would always join other peoples games when they summoned me
5. in 1-3 ostrava says caught up on the wall after you open the wooden gate till he dies and luckily i miss out on the clearstone AND the mausolium key....SWEET!!!
6. numerous places such as the gecko by the 2nd spear on the dragon god boss....or the slugs in 4-2 just to name a few, they will fall though the map when i kill them effectively missing out on the loot
7. im sure i could go on but its to early and im tired of typing
im not being disrespectful to you, and i do appreciate your response. Im just simply telling you just a FEW of the issues ive ran into in just the last few days, and im shocked as to you NEVER having an issue with this game....thats just crazy

i'll add one to your list ice. given this was actually a HELPFUL bug not a harmful one. buddy and i went to duo flamelurker(NG+) he wiped us once, we came back, tried again, and my buddy got stuck partway through the fog into the boss room. he was able to shoot flamelurker until it died without ever fully entering the boss room and flamelurker just stood there and never fought back.
as to the list you described above, i have seen the reaper fall through the floor many times. the others, i have been lucky and never had happen(yet).

I haven't ran into any of those either, knock on wood.
We need more Demon Souls-esque games on the market. Hell, I just hope we get a sequel.

FALLOUT 3 GOTY takes the cake in sheer number of bugs. That game is unplayable and a total waste of 60 bucks
At least we can play this one. And they acknowledged the bugs unlike Bethesda.
Not to mention F3 can damage your system with all those hard resets. Demon's souls doesn't do that.

Well, take this with a grain of salt, but I really enjoyed Enchanted Arms. And, as with many JRPG, once you get to the real boss - the one after the game - it actually gets pretty brutal.
So, I would encourage anyone who enjoys a turn based RPG once in a while to play through Enchanted Arms, just to get to the Holy Beast Shrine.
Trust me, it's worth it

I can't remember what the title of the game was, I just read about it being related to Kings Field online.
All I remember was all the story of the game was in the manual, and all I remember about the ending was a crown was involved.
It was first person, weapons had really crappy durability and repairing them was horrid, so I ended up keeping every crappy weapon I found and using them till they break, severely limiting your enjoyment because you can't use the weapons you like, or the ones with good damage.
I'll see if I can find it's title.
EDIT: Shadow Tower, that's the title and it's cover has a nice "From the creators of kings field" on it...awful awful game.

Back to the topic. If you like the minimalistic style and approach of Demon's Souls you should definitely try the Otogi series. To be honest, after playing Otogi/2 I was 100% sure that From Software had reached it's magnum opus. I mean, those two titles were almost perfect in every regard and I adore them. Armored Core, Enchanted Arms (from which the Sword of Moonlight is taken btw) and Ninja Blade are all nice games but Otogi was something else. Being able to actually surpass that... well, it says a lot about the developer.

honestly, my favorite memories of a RPG franchise are from the .hack// series of games on the PS2. as far as i know, no other series of games tied in ~6 novels, 2 mangas, and 3 anime series with SEVEN video games. the games each build on the last and if you read/watch/play all the forms of media, it makes one huge story where characters grow and evolve and show up in different parts of the story.

From what I've heard most .hack// games were a huge mess of bosses with trillions of HP, mindless grinding and phail scripts... I don't judge games that I haven't played based on reviews but the feedback these series have collected over the years is pretty horrible man...

the bosses did not have trillions of HP, they basicly were displayed as "virus monsters". that basicly gave them infinate HP until you managed to hack them, then they went down fairy easily(that is for the first four games only. the second 3 games the boss fights were mainly "pvp" fights in a tournament. i say pvp but you are obviously fighting computer controlled AI). depending on if you were playing the first 4 games or the second 3 games there was anywhere from one to three boss fights per game so it isn't like there were a stupid number of boss fights in any individual game. the only part of the first four games that seemed like a big grind, was when you had to farm for a specific virus core to hack into a locked area. other than that they went fairly smoothly and you got plenty of level ups from just playing the story. the only times i really had to grind level ups was when i wanted to make a boss fight easier than it needed to be(which was easily done anyways by just exploiting it's elemental weakness). the storyline was fairly far fetched i'll give ya that, but when you actually sit down and play it, it was fun regardless. though the first four got me hooked, as far as storyline and general playstyle goes, i prefer the second three.

After >75 hours (I stopped looking at that stat a while ago, ) of gameplay, I never experienced your bugs. BTW, geckos go inside the walls *by design* if you don't kill them in time; RTFM. Also, is your PS3 firmware up to date and did you ever cheat by turning off the game before dying thereby corrupting your save file? In any event, congratulations for hijacking this thread. There probably already is a bug related thread.

if you don't mind things on the pc there's a game called "blade of darkness". It's an ARPG that has the same kind of eerie dark feelings to it albeit less gothic.

You beat me to it! Otogi is almost identical to Demon's Souls in gameplay but instead of Western Lore it is Japanese Lore, which I love. You know I just bought that game about 2 months ago online (since it's a rare title in the U.S., no stores have it in stock, used or new). But for me to go backwards 4+ years and buy an original xbox game is saying something about that series. I heard about the game but could never find it, just happened to come across it on Ebay by chance. Snatched it right up. That game has atmosphere like no other, but so does DS.
As far as the bugs, I haven't seen one beyond Ostrava dissappearing in 1-3 somewhere. Not sure if he died and I missed the drop though, so I MAY have not experienced any bugs at all. As far as lizards and reapers falling through the floor, or anything falling through floors, it has not happened in over 200 hours of gameplay. Anyone else have stuff falling through the floors?

I've got dead bodies to fall through floors, and forced a Dregling to be stuck in a wall...it was actually pretty hilarious, like he was some weird sculpture that moved awkwardley.
I'm gonna have to look into Otogi, Western/Eastern lore doesn't mean much to me (it's awesome either way) all I enjoy is killing demons with excessive weapons.

I always like to kick that one Dregling off of the walkway in 1-1 that has that monster drop to the river below. I like to watch his head bash into the side of the cliff a few times and then watch his body splat onto the ground and bounce into the river.. Must have done that about a million times and it's ALWAYS fun. But never had one stick in the wall or the ground, never, not once. They get caught up in my feet sometimes, which I do a roll and fling them off, sort of like a shotput. The skeles in particular can get some good air time..

BTW, do you have the North American version of DS or an unpatched Asian one? The current version is 1.04.
