ATLUS ANNOUNCES METAL SLUG XX™ FOR PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) SYSTEM

One X away from ESRB trouble

IRVINE, CA - JANUARY 5, 2010 - Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced METAL SLUG XX™, a side-scrolling, arcade-style, run-and-gun shooter for PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) system, exploding with the same winning formula of over-the-top action and cartoon mayhem that has kept METAL SLUG a premier franchise for over a decade. Frantic and fun, serious METAL SLUG fans and casual gamers alike can relive the glory and charm of old school cooperative arcade play, teaming with a friend via ad-hoc multiplayer to outrun and outshoot hundreds of enemies and liberate as many prisoners as possible.

Choose between six zany METAL SLUG characters and shoot through seven action-packed levels with varying obstacles, numerous enemies, and diverging paths. Confident players can put their skills to the test by playing more than 70 mission-based trials in "Combat School." With its unmistakable style and personality, nostalgic gameplay, more than 70 missions, and the ability to play with a friend, METAL SLUG XX is the definitive portable METAL SLUG arcade experience.

Consider yourself the ultimate METAL SLUG fan? Purchase Leona, a seventh playable character with her own unique abilities, from PlayStation®Store.

METAL SLUG XX is currently scheduled for release on February 23, 2010 with an MSRP of just $19.99. For more information, please visit the website www.atlus.com/metalslugxx.

Man, that's a quick turnover. Usually you guys let games build hype for like 6 months, but this one's out in Feb? Damn.

Anyway, I've got dibs on Tarma.

Edit: I followed the link to the Playstation blog, and the final picture is pretty obviously the first boss from Metal Slug 7 on the DS. Is that a faulty picture, or does this game have stuff from 7 in it?

day one for me since I'll put it on my new PSP Go which I payed only $50 for. (my friend bought the PSP and hated it so he sold it to me for $50 and also if I gave him one of my extra copies of SMT: Nocturne which he had hard time finding in stores he loves it but I love my new PSP go.)

As I understand it, XX is an updated Metal Slug 7, just like how Metal Slug X was an updated Metal Slug 2.

Random, lol. Definitely getting it what with it's low low price, after all, though. Never played Metal Slug outside of a movie arcade (and even then only because 1945 Strikers Plus was strangely absent from the actual games in the Neo Geo machine despite it being shown as an available...).

EDIT: I hear this was leaked already. That sucks. :[

Great announcement. I wanted to pick up 7, but I doubted how well the game would play on a DS. $20 is a steal for this.

It worked pretty well. They found the right balance of Character Size, Screen Size, and Readability... (Certainly no where near as bad as the DS Contra.)

It will probably be better on PSP though, as the second screen really wasn't used... and a wider field of vision is always better in this kind of game.

Also <3 Fio.

Leona hmm... Always bugged me that they used two seemingly random guys from their Fighting games instead of the two from 4 or the ones in the GBA game... Completely threw off the gender ratio. Especially since it doesn't look like they'll be going anywhere... being in 6 & 7 now...

So, this will be available on UMD? Will the UMD version have an install option ala MHFU or Dissidia?

Yes to the first question. Amazon finally put up their preorder page and I've got my copy reserved.

Most interesting, I didn't think Atlus would have localized this one. This is definitely a quick buy for me. I love metal slug and so does my bro so I'm getting a copy for both of us.

It's actually only available on UMD, at least at launch.

$20? That's exactly what I hoped for. You're mine!

Btw, I assume the co-op needs two copies of the game?

Yup. And 2 PSPs. And someone else to play with, unless you're especially dextrous.
