Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Ps1 vs Saturn

I've been planning to buy one of the two, I heard there's some differences. So any opinions?

Enzeru 07-18-2011 01:24 PM

If you're buying a copy for the fan translation, you'll need to go with PS1.

if its by Devil Hackers then no, im talking about the official game (i dont have a good computer to download)

Kakizaki 07-18-2011 04:31 PM

Huh? I was simply suggesting that you try to look up information regarding the upcoming patch on your own. A powerful computer isn't necessary.

Those are the SH fan translation hack sites.

As for PS1 VS Saturn, Tom said the PS1 version had an added dungeon or some such.

That said, I own the Saturn version, and it's a fine way to experience it, as it was made for the system and ported to the PS1.

Had to give my golf clap of approval cj. Been to this place before...

I'd been watching this one but had moved on years ago, time to dust it off and rip my disks to add this translation patch asap once the finishing touches are done.

P.S. Also, option one of course on the swords...

Kinda sad how many of the earlier Megaten games never made it to western gamers.

cj iwakura 11-29-2011 05:08 PM

Even sadder that the best ones were considered for US release, and got canned for whatever reason. (Devil Summoner 1 & 2 namely.)

Urban myth, mind you, so take that with a grain of salt.

Dharos 02-19-2012 03:35 PM

True, can't blame Atlus though, in fact I'm grateful it's one of the very few companies that still brings Japanese gaming gems to western audiences.

not just Megaten, many game series back then met this fate

They've been pretty diligent with bringing every game out since P2:EP, and their localizations got a lot better fast. I'm really happy with what they do, even if it is a shame to see a few old gems go untranslated. There's always hope for fantranslations, at least. Personally I'm still sad that there isn't one for If... yet, since I find the concept really interesting.

I believe it is best to purchase the PS1 version as that the patch will soon be available hopefully. If you are Japanese fluent, then get the Saturn version. If I am not mistaken, the Saturn have better graphics than the PS1. I am not sure though..

Juanblue85 04-24-2012 04:33 PM

3DS version incoming.

For the love of God Atlus, BRING IT OVER THIS TIME.

Innocent Sin's flaw was repaired.

NOW THE LAST BLIGHT CAN BE SALVAGED!

Make the Revelations-era Atlus proud, guys. They're cheering for you!

I was going to argue it wasn't surprising, given there was an "SMT" slated for 3DS at E3 2010, but I guess, Devil Surivivor could have been that so this is a surprise.

It leaves me wondering what the slated "Persona" game was.

Still, its great news. I've wanted to see this come to the US again and would totally support it.

And if anything, it opens a new audience to Raidou's games in the future. Those could actually be a spot of fun on 3DS.

I've always thought those were mere placeholders. Even if they weren't, this game being the one ported still would have made me react the same.
I don't think I'd want another port for 3ds. They've had plenty of time to get used to it and test the waters. They should try something new now.

While I kind of understand your sentiment, this is a completely different ballgame. This is a title that deserves to be ported, and the fact that it didn't make it to North America the first time around, kind of makes the situation a little different than something like another port of P3.

Tsuko 04-24-2012 08:10 PM

I'm surprised that they aren't doing a remake of the original Devil Summoner first

They did. It was on PSP. We have gone over this before.

I think he means a literal remake, not a straight port.

Devil Summoner could use one. It has a good story, but it's nigh unplayable as it is.

Sorry, I meant after this game. I agree that this deserves a port and we might get the chance to actually play it now in English.

cireza 04-24-2012 11:48 PM

This is great news to me, I will definitely buy a 3DS version of the game because I did not have the chance to play it back then. I hope that it will make it to the US !

A first person SMT is a perfect fit for the 3DS in my opinion, it will take advantage of the 3D effect nicely :)

Yes, I get that Tsuko. DS was somewhat of an enhanced port, but I have to wonder how long it will be before people start arguing how to classify the 3DS version of Soul Hackers.

Tooru 04-25-2012 12:18 PM

I've always been curious about this game; I'm hoping that this time Atlus will bring it over. It looks pretty interesting!
