There seems to be a reprint of Nocturne out there after all. They have it for sale on Play Asia for those who don't know. I hear it is just the game and no soundtrack. Its great for those who haven't had a chance to buy the game already or don't want to pay a lot for it on eBay.

Yes, I know I posted about this in another thread on the 'Game Suggestions Forum' but thought I would post here anyway. :)

A friend of mine on another forum just pointed this out to me. Maybe I should buy a bunch and sell them for profit on Ebay. Na. I wouldn't do that to my fellow gamers. Anyone who's been complaining though about not being able to find one should buy this quick.

Is this a localized version reprint, or Jp please?

It is the US version, but without the soundtrack that came as a pre-order bonus (IIRC, may have just come with all first prints).

According to a message someone on CAG got from Atlus:

"That is indeed a legit reprint of Nocturne. The soundtrack isn’t included in the reprint though. And no, we don’t have any spare soundtracks here to give/sell you. Be sure to pick up Persona 3: FES this month too! Unless you like waiting for these reprints to come along once in a blue moon."

There's a good chance that Amazon is going to get a stock of these soon at a cheaper price.

Play Asia is still preparing my order, so I don't think they got the actual copies yet...that or I ordered too late and they're all out.

This seems kind of weird to me. Wouldn't there be an announcement on their mailing list? Wouldn't it be on their main page? I'd think they'd give people a chance to pre-order and stuff before reprinting, wouldn't they?

Sorry about this, by the way, but due to the way it was handled, there was no way to know when or where it would pop up first. If things had been a little different, we'd have sent a press release out and informed the forums, but it turned out not to be so simple.

The thing is, I still can't tell you, because there's no way to be sure. The copies are out there and out of our hands--if amazon decides to buy up some inventory, then yes. If they don't, then no. But we'll find this out at about the same time as you do.

Although, judging by the listings on ebay, only a bunch of scalpers bought them. :( This could turn out to be a reprint in vain...

They started showing up last Friday. The same guy who is selling sealed copies on Amazon for $69.99, is also selling them on ebay. I'm positive they're reprints, since he's sold at least 20+ copies on ebay alone, and seems to have a limitless supply. It's also the same seller who had copies of Gitaroo Man reprints before anyone else.

Seriously. I only live a few hours away from their HQ. I'd totally be willing to hop on a bus for this freakin' game.

I want to order it from Play-Asia just in case Amazon doesn't stock it, but I'm worried they might not have enough copies to fulfill all orders. This wouldn't be a problem if I could get a refund, but I heard they only give store credit. Screw that.

Well, you can buy it used at gamestop for $60, since they have "mysteriously" been restocked with many copies of this game. Some people are speculating that they bought a bunch of reprints and are just opening them up and selling them as used in order to charge more.

They have a return policy, you know (that's if the time isn't up).

And I have never seen Gamestop sell a game for higher than MSRP price. Usually if a game's been out for longer than it should have been, they lower the price to dead cheap to just get rid of it (they are corrupt, but I don't think they are ebay corrupt).

I'm really tempted to see what happens if I try to sell them Final Fantasy VII (yes, they don't accept old games anymore, but just out of curiosity...).

I want to know how many copies were reprinted. If it turns out only a handful were made, then I can't say I won't lose some of my respect for Atlus. Especially since it looks like Disgaea for the ps2 has also been reprinted, and honestly, do we really need any more of those on the market? The same game is already on two systems and will be released for yet another one in the coming months.

And I'm waiting until I hear that Play-Asia is actually shipping the games until I order from them.

The game was marked ~$45 on the box, but when they rang me up, they charged me $60. I had bought another game, so I didn't immediately notice the discrepancy. But by the time I got to my car, something struck me as odd, so I looked at the receipt, went back in, and they refunded the difference.

So, honestly, I guess it was a mistake that I got it for that low.

Gamestop had this game @ 39.99 used earlier this morning-- so I imagine Atlus probably sold the game to them @ a 30-35$ msrp. They're sold out now, however.

If anyones interested in the original DDS,-- it's in stock for 39.99$ used as well @ ebgames/gamestop. People are speculating that A.) Digital Devil Saga was also rerelased as a reprint or B.) gamestop is so scared that Atlus will issue a reprint that they're letting go of all the stock they've been hoarding in hopes of capitalizing on the ridiculous price range that its been going for.

GL and happy hunting.

It seems to be a reprint for DDS as well. Gamestop/Ebgames are just gutting new copies so they can sell them for more. A good number of people are reporting that their 'used' games are being received in perfect condition with flawless manuals and discs, which is what Gamestop has been doing with the Nocturne reprints as well(gutting em and selling em at overinflated prices). I can't say I support this behavior, but with all of the coupon codes and discounts that are available to gamestop consumers, you can get either game for about 10 dollars under the USED price.

Kakizaki
04-23-2008, 03:48 PM
How are they profiting by selling a new as used Nocturne for less than they were selling it new or less than other retailers are selling it for? This has more to do with stupid GS corporate policy than it does with turning a profit surprisingly.

Taio
04-23-2008, 04:55 PM
Around the time that the news of Playasia's reprint hit the net, gamestop suddenly had a new stock of "used" nocturne copies that they were selling for around 60$, which led many to believe that they were just gutting new copies and attempting to take advantage of the lower price point ( compared to ebay and amazon) to deceive unsuspecting gamers and further increase their profit margin. People who have received these copies, already, claim that everything is in excellent condition and intact, including a DVD, manual, and a new PS2 DVD case in perfect condition, which further supports the speculation that gamestop did exactly as mentioned. The 60$ price point has since dropped to 39.99 to compete with playasias price point.

As far as DDS1 is concerned, it's not unfathomable that Atlus reprinted this game and sold it to Gamestop at a very affordable price with an accessible (maybe 29.99?) MSRP like with FES. It may be as I've stated earlier, either gamestop fears/knows that atlus will reprint the title soon and is trying to take advantage of this window of opportunity to sell an overabundance of stock they've been hoarding, or they gutted copies simply to get around the MSRP easily and to take advantage of the lack of information. For all we know, new copies will spring up on amazon for 29.99. Much like the disgaea reprint fiasco, maybe they(like atlus) are trying to maintain that veil of secrecy so that the value of the game can be maintained before the reprinted copies are released on a greater scale with the lower MSRP.

It's conjecture at this point, but it strikes me as fishy that gamestop suddenly has all of these "used" copies of "rare" games, which are still in stock after all this time. Either way, I don't care to comment on this matter any further. I'll post when I receive my copies.

I'm not disagreeing with you, as I understand how idiotic GS policy is -- I worked there for quite a while. My point was that they aren't doing anything new. They have done this with other reprints and small title releases. It isn't as simple as just to turn a profit on Nocturne.

I mentioned finding it at my local GS in one of the other threads, but after reading this, I'm starting to wonder if my find is really that lucky since I actually saw another one sitting around a different shop nearby. (There are like 12 within a 25 mile radius or so here)

So the question I am now faced with are:

1) How can I snag a copy of the soundtrack that I woefully missed out on?

2) How can I tell if my copy is a reprint or original?

3) Is $40 used at a GameStop a good price now?

4) Will we see other SMT games come out like this?

If you found it in a store, it is a reprint. Look inside the case for the PS2 memory card slot, if it isn't there then its a reprint. I doubt they put any kind on serial number or changed anything to signify a reprint so you can still enjoy owning the game.

I hope DDS2 and Nocturne get a reprint. I can't find it anywhere at the stores. Its as though the games never existed.

I really hope DDS2 gets a reprint as well, as it will soon be the only PS2 SMT game I will be missing. Going to be ordering a copy of DDS on Monday from Playasia, and just found a used copy of Devil Summoner at Gamestop for $18.00, with box and book, and pretty much in perfect condition. DDS2 in my area is impossible to find, so... yeah. Nocturne was quite easy to find though, which I found strange because I thought EVERYONE was gonna gobble up all the copies ASAP, guess I got a little lucky there .

Auden and Raidou, Nocturne and DDS1 got reprints. You're best bets are looking at Play Asia, Amazon once in a while, or the used section in Gamestop. They openned the reprints so they're selling them as used.

I'm still waiting for my copy of Nocturne from Play-Asia. ;_; They said it shipped on the 7th.

As for Devil Summoner, they've had 5 used copies at my local Microplay for as long as I can remember, and they still haven't sold a single one.

I noticed Amazon no longer had this available so I decided to get a copy off the marketplace while it still was relatively cheap. I supposedly got the original version, I'm not actually sure what the difference is though.

I picked up a copy at a garage sale of all places! $5!
Its got a small round sticker on the back with 180 on it... is it a reprint? No memory card holder in it and no soundtrack.

Thoughts?

Man it would be awesome to give that Nocturne Chronicle edition a US release as a farewell for the PS2. Make the PS2 go out with a bang with a remix.

Only gripe i have about Nocturne Chronicles that is if you're going to replace Dante with Raidou (which is OK), then you need to replace Dante's music with something more in the spirit of Devil Summoner when Raidou is there. KInda weird to see Raidou to Dante's Theme.

I don't know if there were a great many additions to Nocturne other than swapping out Dante for for Raidou, but I'm feeling Devil Summoner 2 is a good send-off for SMT on the PS2 as is.

Dunno what the sticker means, no soundtrack probably means its one of the reprints since the OST only came alongside the original release. Be happy your found it and hopefully it came with the original box and instructions.

They hardly ever have it at GameStop, but I managed to get a copy for $45.

Did they even replace Dante's moves and script when they switched him out for Raidou? Seeing Raidou do Bullet time, or a Stinger would be really bizarre, and I can't imagine Raidou with the cocky attitude that Dante has.

You can see this stuff up on YouTube actually, just look up Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. Hito-shura.

I said that Raidou has Dante's Theme playing during the fights that feature him and that THAT was awkward. Raidou's attacks look like things Raidou would do, they simply have the same properties as the attacks Dante performs. As for what Raidou says during the fight (I think its actually Gouto speaking for him) is probably in line from something from Devil Summoner. I don't know Japanese, so I can't say for certain, I just know Gouto does the talking when Hitoshura approaches that point where you first encounter Dante.

Its really just a pallate swap with some tweaks to make it feel more like Raidou, but the properties of the moveset are pretty much the same. I believe demons from Devil Summoner like Mokoi also were added to the game as well, given he's one that appears in that CS as well.

I regret selling this so much. I sold DDS 1 + 2 and Nocturne so I could pay my rent freshman year of college. I should have found another way! And now I have been so out of the gaming loop I missed this reprint (I picked up DDS1 on reprint however).
