The first and second where great but this is in the hands of another developer. Meaning it could flop really hard.

I would hate to see such a beautiful premise do that.

Just like Bioware right?

Sayckeone

No. Bioware has developed some decent titles. I rather liked Baldur's Gate.

Morrowind was just a horrible, empty game devoid of any worth.

A developer not known for strong dialogue/scripting making an entry into a series known for it's top-notch dialogue/scripting?

I wish I still had that image from No Mutants Allowed with the chick saying nothing more than "I saw a radscorpion today." :(

Sayckeone
04-08-2008, 10:12 AM
It's not even just that. Black Isle created a cohesive and believable world with Fallout. Maybe BethSoft fixed this with Oblivion, but Morrowind was anything but.

I liked just wandering around Morrowind, but nothing I ever did felt like it had any impact.

RayFoxSith

They just seem to only want to make the world in the game big.

It's not even just that. Black Isle created a cohesive and believable world with Fallout.

NPC interaction and writing was just something I felt really stood out in the game. It's a major reason why I hold BI's Planescape: Torment in high regard.

It felt like a good step ahead from the paragraph books in Wasteland, Dragon Wars, Sentinel Worlds, etc.

Part of me feels that this game is going to be a larger mistep than Fountain of Dreams was. (If I may hold some level of connectivity between Fountain of Dreams, Wasteland, and the first two Fallouts).

In summary: BAAAAAW :(

I am really thinking that this game will suck.

Fallout was uber awesome, but Interplay had this habit of making every sequel a bit worse, so I liked Fallout 2 a bit less, then brotherhood of steel tactics a bit less, then Fallout Dark Alliance way way less, and Fallout 3 wasn't looking so great, either.

I am not really fond of Bethesda, their Elder Scrolls line has terrible story, retarded leveling systems, and comes with less features every game, not to mention the Star Trek games of late.

So I dunno, maybe It'll somehow come out great and get uber reviews or something, but then so did Oblivion and I just couldnt get into its medieval sandbox with nothing to do mindset.

Sayckeone

Nah, Oblivion is better than Morrowind, though that isnt saying much. Morrowind was just bad, really bad. I like Oblivion though, theres alot of stuff to do and I never feel bored playing it. I tried Morrowind and thought it was boring as hell and that the world, while big looked so ugly and languid. Oblivion fixes this and while it can start off a bit rocky, mid-game is where the fun starts. Well this is just what I think.

I didnt play too much of Fallout 2, but it was neat. I think 3 sounds good on paper, I hope it turns out that way. Oblivion wasn't that great, I just never felt like I was doing anything or involved as much as I should of been.

Luckily the developers of the games made them so easy to tell apart: Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel (PC; squad-based strategy) and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (Xbox; action).

The PC game was pretty much just the combat portions of the previous games over and over and over, but with a wider variety of weapons and combat actions, and less roleplaying.
The Xbox game was a brawler/shooter based on the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance engine and is overwhelmingly tepid.

Why is that Ghoul so angry? I want to chat with him and reminisce about the olden days, before the war. Give him some bottlecaps and laugh about the nuclear holocaust over a Nuka-Cola.

My thoughts exactly!

The script was what really made the difference in Fallout, I really hope it'll be good in this one. I thought the script in Morrowind really sucked though so hopefuly they got someone else to write for this game. I don't wanna have to filter large paragraphs of useless stuff looking for bold words like I did in Morrowind, after about an hour or two I didn't even bother reading what most people said anymore.

I've read somewhere that the game will actualy mostly take place in virtual reality and a bit within "Vault 101". What does everyone think of the idea? Personnaly I think it's just an excuse to take liberties with the original setting. Bah. Why does one of my favorite series of all time get a new game that already looks like it's going to suck even before it is released? :(

(as a side note though, I thought "Arcanum : Of steam and magic" kinda captured the essence of what made Fallout such a great game. Playing a very stupid character was also extremely funny (dwarf = dorf, Virgil = Voigol  ) and an ugly one got you funny comments too.)

Played this for several hours yesterday. It basically is a better/improved version of Oblivion except it's Fallout. I can see the more hardcore Fallout fans being bothered but I'm enjoying it a lot so far and I was a big fan of Fallout 1+2. If your unsure whether you'll like it or not you really have to ask yourself how much you liked Oblivion(And taking into account they fixed a lot of the flaws such as the universal leveling).

I also played for quite awhile. I haven't done too much on the side and am currently exploring the museum. I just hit level 5. Once you get out into the world, it does feel a lot like Oblivion.

However, after getting past the GNN, it feels a lot less like Oblivion. VATS is a necessity to survival and gives the game a huge edge over the boring combat found in Oblivion. Up to the second or third main quest, you can play the game like Oblivion. Afterwards, you'll be extremely frustrated if you don't use all of the systems in the game to their fullest.

The first time I used it I didn't know what it was (I never read manuals, too impulsive) and marveled at the vault guard's head shattering in slow motion.

The way you can get so into every little ruin or outpost you wander through makes this game great. I'm already thinking about how to build my character in subsequent playthroughs. This is a really fun game.

Bleh. I'd prefer they had spent the time addressing the several (sometimes game-breaking) bugs in the game first.

Anyone get The Pitt (http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/967/967052p1.html) yet?

Yeah, I finished it too. Much much better than O:A, but in comparison to the main game, it's not fantastic. But I would say it's worth the 800 mspoints, good loot and a decent story. I love killing enemies with the Man Opener (that saw-thingie), but I try to avoid it because it's ridiculously over-powered.

I'd be more interested in the DLC if they were $10 each, but as it stands, I think I'll wait and see if they release a GOTY version with all the DLC later on down the line like they did with Oblivion, not really trying to play through this game again this soon anyway...

Looks like the first two DLC packs are getting a retail (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3173931) release. Broken Steel just came out today, and the PC version is... broken.

I'll be getting this post haste. Almost makes me happy I'm not internet connected. Kinda.

Wow, I knew I wasn't the only person in the world who didn't like Oblivion! I just couldn't find any of them... O.o

Seems to me that a lot more people don't like it than do. I like it.

Even though I am fully aware of all the flaws Oblivion has, I still like it. But it gets old and boring really fast. One of the worse wRPGs.

I downloaded Broken Steel yesterday (360, thankfully), and the first thing I saw from the game was an enemy, a weapon and the only new armor BEFORE I finished the game. That kinda pissed me off.

Wow how did you capture this images upon playing the game.
Dude your the man, Fallout 3 is one of the best 3D games I've ever seen.
I haven't play this game before but the screen shots you posted is for real.
Thanks you inspired me to play this one.

If you're talking about the screens in the first post... I didn't take them, they are from another site back before the game came out. However I did take these (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8945110&publicUserId=5177886#comments) pics, since I have the PC version all I had to do was hit the print screen button. Anyway the retail release of the first two expansions are out. I don't think I will buy emf or $20 though, but when they go on sale or release another pack with more for less I might bite. There's also supposed to be a GOTY versionc oming out later with all the content...

So, anyone "psyched" for the two new DLCs? Aliens can be interesting, but they have already let me down three times... Chances are it'll be just another straight forward shooter.

I'm waiting for the GOTY edition to buy anything. I've gotten enough out renting it and finishing it once for now.

the ending was horrible. game was great, but what happened to finishing a game and getting a spectacular CG? back in the playstation days? A few recent games ive played reward you for long hours of play with a few captioned pictures. good job!

Some would say that the long hours of gameplay are enough of a reward to play the game in most cases. Any game that can you keep you interested for long periods of time usually means they accomplished their goal. Look at WoW. I am pretty sure they hit their quota and people have to pay just to play it. No CG ending.

I can see your point, tho.

Who cares about CG cutscenes anymore? The game rans entirely off of the in game engine, so why would you expect a CG cutscene at the end?
