I support this. Although, I would much rather they have continued developing the PS2 version, rather than this. It still looks like a PS2 game, anyway.
Still, I loved the original, and if I ever get a PS3, I will buy this.

I intend to get a PS3 someday, so whichever console this comes out on...it better come Stateside.
(On the upside, though, PS3 games are region-free to my recollection, so even if Atlus fails on this count...)

Majesco is supposedly publishing Blokus Club Portable: Steambot Championship for the PSP, so maybe they will pick this up eventually if Atlus doesn't. Or someone will, as the name recognition builds.

If Atlus is a 360 company now, does that make this release through them impossible? Because I loved the first game and I really trust Atlus' localization skills. I'd worry about #2 if it were just grabbed by some othr company.
(And seeing as I own a PS3, I don't exactly want to see this get ported to the 360 by Atlus either. . . if they can even do that, I'm not sure.)

this is a quote from Gamespot about it "but we do know that this is a mech combat dating sim RPG". I don't know if this is an RPG or not but it sounds like one.

I loved the first one. Granted it's really hard finding information about this title, which is sad. :(
I did like the first one, although the gameplay got annoying at times.
But this game will be a day one purchase for me :P

It would be nice if Irem would update their site a little bit more frequently with news about how this one is progressing. It seems almost insane to be asking for this when Japanese fans can't even get news of the game's development.
Nevertheless, I do really want it. heh.

Was it ever confirmed whether BT2 is a prequel, sequel, or remake? The trailer I saw a while back made it look like a prequel (apparently set in a more rustic nefroburg), but I was never clear on it.

I absolutely HAVE to play this game.
'Steambot Chronicles' is a game that I just picked up by chance and I love it to death!
So far, I've played thru it 16 times and the news of a sequel just may be the greatest gaming news I've EVER received, so of course I want this to be localized.

I just happened upon this game by accident and it was SO great.
And I still don't understand why the greatest complaint I heard from reviweres was 'too much customization.' I mean, really, WHAT!? I never thought that would be a valid complaint, and I still don't.
The sequel looks like it has even more options than the first, so I'm glad Atlus didn't listen to the critics.

I got an Atlus account just to say I would buy a PS3 for this game. In fact, the first time I visited the Atlus forums was because the note in the back of the Steambot Chronicles manual from the project lead said that Atlus pays attention to what's said on the forums.
That said, I sincerely hope Atlus localizes Bumpy Trot 2 if and when it comes out in Japan.

I can't argue with you about the controls, I wanted to throw my controller against the wall so many times during the first half hour, but beyond that I really enjoyed it. Assuming they fixed the controls for the sequel, I would support a localization and buy it day one.

The whole point is that you're driving a big, clunky robot. Except for the ones on wheels, which act exactly the same way for some reason...

I thought the controls for Vanilla were somewhat frustrating at times, but the Trotmobile controls completely became second nature for me and easy to handle after a bit.
Anyway, probably the only thing that I believe absolutely must be fixed for the sequel is the frequent and fairly long load times. It started to feel like a hassle just to travel to another district in town and I, as the player, should not feel like that.

Maybe It's because I'm a lover of the Virtual On arcade series, but the Trot controls were perfect for me, and the on foot controls are pretty much standard in JRPGS. As for the Graphics, that's an objective thing. For example, I have a friend who thinks that Odin Sphere is ugly, while everyone else thinks he's legally blind. I think that the minimalistic 3D anime look is beautiful, and that SC is one of the best looking games on the system.
With the sequel Irem can hopefully iron out some of the kinks, put the beautiful graphics into high def, and make it run at a smooth 60 FPS consistantly. That's all I'm really hoping for (in addition to an English translation, of course.)

I liked Steambot more for its ideas than its execution. My mech kept getting defeated faster than I could react. (Perhaps I should've consulted FAQs...) Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't buy the sequel on the PS3...

Matter of fact, the only reason I joined the forums was to note that I would get this game, Bumpy Trot Vehicle Battle and any new Legend of Heroes games first chance I got. Of course, I try and buy any Playstation RPG in general but I would particularly love to get these games translated.

I first joined the atlus forums back when steambot chronicles was released to discuss it. I even called myself vanilla bean, I was such a fanboy. I didn't stay long (such is the fickleness of youth.)
I've forgotten my old password, and I'm not sure if the account still exists. I kinda hope it doesn't.
I'm pretty sure I bought the game based on a really positive review in OPM (which was a really ####ing good magazine. a lot better than the #### psm was and still is putting out). I bought it day one.
I still play it, which is amazing, considering that I usually only play games through once (unless the new game+ is totally awesome, of course).

yea the first one was pretty anoying wiht the haywire controls, good thing the game's bosses weren't so hard or else i don't think i woulda progresses anywhere with the weird controls in STMBTC 1. but the story(thoguh its non-linear.) was really hilarous and pretty enjoyable, since Vanilla has some of the most chessiest line but it makes the story that much more enriching, I like, sure i'll buy this one too if it gets localizd here ^^

Again, I hope Atlus brings this title over. Tokyo Beat Down and Hammerin' Hero were both disappointments to me, so a sequel to a game I already like would be a good way to cure my blues (HINT HINT).
Also, another pre-order bonus would be cool. The harmonica, although useless, was fun to even have.

Yeah that harmonica was pretty small. I never took it out of its box but it looks damn near impossible to play.
Anyway before we worry about if Atlus will port bumpy trot 2, we still need to know when the heck Irem will finally complete the game.

Irem: Streambot Chronicles 2 still in in development (http://scrawlfx.com/2010/03/irem-steambot-chronicles-2-still-in-development)
We haven’t heard from Irem’s Steambot Chronicles 2 (Bumpy Trot 2 in Japan) for some time now. It was almost a year ago we last saw the game in a magazine scan. So I contacted Irem to see what they had to say on the game’s development status (take no mind to some of the choppy English; this is a Japanese developer responding).
“We are still developing Bumpy Trot 2,” an Irem rep responded. “We are now trying to release it in Japan as soon as we can.”
When will we receive new information on the title?
“The release date of new information for Bumpy Trot 2 has not yet decided,” the rep told me.
Have Irem any plans to release it in places outside Japan?
“We are sorry, but the plans for releasing it in other countries have not yet decided.”
Well. That’s that. The first Steambot Chronicles came to the west, so I see no reason why the second won’t.
You heard the man Atlus. You brought us the original so can you bring the sequel to north america too please?:D

I would definitely support this, considering the PS3's lack of RPG's in comparision to the PS1, PS2, and even PSP. If sales are a worry in bringing over to NA, I'd like to point out that the PS2 had a lot of fantastic RPGs released in 2006 (with everything from a new Xenosaga to a new Shadow Hearts to a new Final Fantasy coming out) and that it was a new RPG series coming out as well; it had to be damn near perfect and pimped out to sell extremely well.
