Rumours are making their way around that the DS servers might be shut down in April. Eventhough I highly doubt that it is true I wanted to hear your opinion about it and if anybody might know something certain...

if you read the agreements it said "may shut down" but if it does that means we are going to be expecting demon's souls 2

The servers cannot die, not while the Nexus binds them.

I don't see why the servers would go down. ATLUS and SONY have been talking about how well the game sold.
I know it's not EA here but the servers for ESPN 2K where just shut down....they were up for 10 years.

the game hasn't even been out a year! I HIGHLY doubt this, maybe by NEXT April.... I just don't see them shutting down the servers to a game that's been selling a lot better then they originally even hoped for, and yeah them shutting down the servers would elude to the fact that we wouldn't be getting a DS 2.... IMO at least

Well considering this is the official forum so to speak I hope they would announce it in advance if it was going to happen. I don't see why it would though. The japanese and asian servers are still up and we sold more copies of the NA version than they sold combined.

I'm sure the rumor just started because of the notice that Atlus and Sony retains to right to shut down the server after april with out prior notification. Something like that was written on the agreement form I think when you log in to DS for the first time.
People have discussed this before and most stand by the conclusion that they wouldn't shut down the server because of how well the game is doing. Since people are still buying DS, I'm sure they will keep the server running for a while even though Atlus can shut down the server anytime they want after april.

hrm.. did u get this rumour from the asian version EULA? when playing i remember reading that sony asia had the option to shut down the servers in a few months time..
but i think this is an option if the game didn't sell well at all they could stop the servers.

Yeah, atlus said that they did'nt think the game would go well, so thats why i guess they putted servers may be shut down on april. But now since it got good reviews and more people going online daily, it might change their mines about the server. Well that's what i think of course.

It would be horrible if the servers shut down not to mention....horrible. If anything they need to improve the servers and get rid of some of this lag :D.

If that's the case I wont be very happy since I recently bought the game and havn't really experienced the 'online' aspects very much yet, and I have no intentions on putting the game to rest anytime soon.
I certainly hope it's just a bad rumour.

You don't have to put the game down just because the servers are gone.
I'd play it right now if they killed the servers.
Single player. ftw

The game at this time is extremely popular so it would be a blow to fans to have the servers shut down in April but chin up Atlus most likely have a plan to extend it heck they could make us donate some cash to keep the servers on.

True, but sadly I havn't I've experienced the online aspects of this game a whole lot yet, and would be pretty devastated if I didn't have the chance to.
I felt like I had enough to worry about with the monsters and traps and didn't feel like having to deal with black phantoms invading my world to make it even tougher before I could get to know the game better and feel a bit more comfortable with my surroundings. I've probably ruined the overall experience this way, but oh well...

I suppose that's somewhat true, but then again - with the somewhat diverse library of weapons, spells, miracles and environments something tells me fights wont play out the same everytime.
Oh well, even if it is true I wont stop playing anytime soon, there's so many things I'd like to try out, so many different stats, weapons, magic and miracles.. This game is probably gonna keep me busy for quite some time :)

1st. US Version at ebay - item never was delivered to me ;-( ,
2nd. US Version at amazon - got it - still love it. could play it day and night
3rd. Asian Version at ebay - because I want to join the the Asian Servers, too.
& to be honest a deluxe edition is also planned.
Conclusion:
When a game has so much potential to individuals like me, that they really spend money on the same game 3 times - the companies developing it (from software , studio japan) and also the publishers like atlus earn good money with a AAA-Title, the businessmen at that companies had to be real nobrainers (as far as I know, they are not) to do not further support a game title that is selling that well. did you know that most developed game titles do not?
So if you as a game designer or publisher have a good rated (critics) and selling game (press) in your portfolio you want to keep that cash-cow. it's essential for the software industry to have that titles up and running.
nobody with a clear head and sense for business will cancel the server side support for such an title and risk losses in sales.
not atlus / not from software
not any other current or future partner of that work
as long as they are financially fine and do not run into bankruptcy, servers must not have any fear to be shut down.
so far - imho,
Ben

Your source is right but interpreted wrong. The servers were only "guaranteed" to be up for 6 months. They never said anything about them going down after six months, they simply didn't promise they wouldn't.
