DS Tournament for SL 100-140 (on April 3rd)

Hi guys

Well here I am to announce another tournament!

This tournament might be recorded if a blue phantom records it since I can't do it myself.
(Karkarov might record it but nothing is sure yet)

The tournament has the following rules:

1. No "Banish"

2. No "Anti-Magic Field" (because of lag and disconnection issues)

3. No lagging or glitching of any kind

And thats about it...

A friend of mine and I will host the tournament (If 2 hosts are going to be required to make at least the first rounds faster)

You ARE allowed to switch characters during the tournament as long as they have the requirements to join and are on the same PSN account. Please keep in mind though that if you lose with one of them, all of them are out!

Pre-buff is allowed (can be discussed) and the fight starts when both players bow.

Date: Sat. April 3rd 8pm GMT +0
For people in the U.S. it's held at:
3pm EST
2pm CST
1pm Mountain
12pm PST

SL range: 100-140

Requirements to join:

- The NA version of "Demon's Souls"

- A "Red Eye Stone"

- Adding me on PSN with a message confirming that you added me to join the tournament (people already added on my friends list should PM me aswell)

If anyone signes up for the tournament and cannot make it later on for some reason please inform me about it!

The limit of participants for the tournament is 32 people. Meaning that I can't guarantee any more spots for participants. Anyways, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't sign up bacause I have reached the maximum number of people since I'm pertty sure that there will be open spots left at the day of the tourney.

I'm gonna be honest, we're all kinda meh on the tournament topic. Been through a few tourneys here and they were fun. Only a few of the 'regulars' even play DS anymore.

Hey, I looked around for timezones and the best I could find was this:

Take Dublin or London as the base (GMT+0) and then look for a city with your time. I think you should be able to find out at what time the tourney starts for you ;).

I'm not sure yet. I was thinkin of 1-4 or 4-1 but I can't really decide. Both of them are really popular for constant invasions so I would prefer world 1-4 in that aspect. If I host the tourney in world 4-1 it'll be at Vanguard which means that if a random invader somehow manages to kill me (which surely shouldn't be too easy for him though) it takes much longer to clear the area again and continue the fights. This could lead to massive delays and that's why I would rather do the whole thing in 1-4 only killing those 3 archers if somethng goes wrong. Oh and I still couldn't figure out how to go up those hills and skip the first fog in 4-1. Could anybody show me that? Oh another area I was thinking of was 3-1 before the boss fog but then again it's the same problem as with 4-1

1-1 is complicated since I can only summon there if I start a fresh new game + which I can't really manage for the tourney right now for some reasons :-|

Sadly it looks like I may have to delay mine until later in the second week of april though. Too many tournaments not enough time.

First rounds take sooo long usually. Its always because there is not enough hosts for the 1st round. Tournament that have no recording go so much faster its crazy.

I could show you if you dont find anyone else, ill come on in about an hour or so. but unless you like to fight black pahntoms there is no reason to keep it close. Most black phantoms invading dont get past the first screen of that stage.

Quite honestly though, plenty of people invade from the 1st fog gate too. (about half the times I go up to clear the archers I get invaded from the 1st gate) So the best place to stand would be where the fog gate is cause no one can invade you when your between spawn points.

Standing between the 2 spawn points won't help me I suppose. During fights I can't be invaded anyways since I have a Black Phantom already around. When the fight is over I have to move anyways to summon new people.
About cloak... I won't ban it. I know that many people will just start to complain for banning it (not from this forum but from other ones trust me)

Long story short. Screw the complainers. You don't want more than 32 or so people in your tournament max anyway. More than that and it becomes a stupid long drawn out nightmare, trust me. The problem with the multiple hosts thing is it doesnt work. Having a permanent second phantom always causes issues sooner or later. My last tournament I single hosted and there was no problem the entire time save one person who was failing to summon but refused to reset his PS3 like I told him too. Trust me I have done three of these things and done two playthroughs with friends plus hosted crap tons of matches.... If you cant connect to another person but they can summon everyone else fine the problem is you not them or what type of soul sign you are using.

Secondly there is no need to do all the sillieness with skipping fogs. You just need to be organized and quick on your summons. My last tourney was in 4-1 and as my vids show I clearly had opened the 4-1 first fog gate. I never got invaded one time over the course of a 3 hours long tournament. My tournament in 3-1 had fewer people, I think like 12 or 14, but again I was not invaded once over the course of 3 hours.

The "being organized" part is easier said than done. In my first tourney people just didn't want to listen were to put their soulsign for me to able to quickly summon them. The end result was me getting invaded in the SL 180's (which surely isn't as many players as in the 120's)! Anyways this was just at the beginning like that. Afterwards we could manage to get "kinda" organized and there were no more invasions.

Sure feel free to send an invite. Thing about people not being willing to cooperate.... well if you aren't recording the first round anyway no one will know they got eliminated for refusal to follow basic rules anyway .... It will just drag down everyone including the players who are working with you if you try to play ball with people who just want to do their own thing and don't care about the rules or simple requests.

Like you said depends on how many people show. If it is a turnout of say 16 or less guys just record it all. But if something like 20+ 30+ people show cutting out the first round may be a good move. It is up to you, but you won't really know until it is showtime.

Just check the region on the back or on the side of the cd box. If it says "1" it's the NA version and if it says "3" it's the Asian version.

It would be good to decide which arena we are going to use. 1-4, 4-1 (@Vanguard) or 3-1 (@boss fog). I would tend to 3-1 because there is the best recording spot for Karkarov in my opinion. 4-1, and 1-4 are good as well though.
What are your opinions?

That place in 1-1 isn't preferable since it would take too long to run back and then summon people, then run back to just have a quick fight. I don't see the point to be honest. 1-3 might be an option but I would still rather stick to 3-1 or 4-1 since everyone has those open for sure. Simple as that. I don't think we should get to more complicated places to organize...

I think I'll just do the tourney in 4-1 since it's the easiest to get the people summoned quickly there without any big problems (I hope?)

there shouldnt be seperate brackets. the difference between a lvl 120 to a lvl 140 isnt that great. i was 120 and went up to 140 for this and my guy only got some more hp wich was actually minimal and a little more base damage but not much.

that will only cause stress on the set ups. Just grin and bear it. Besides Morrigan, in the event that you do happen to win, its not like you will get called to fight as soon as you finish that fight, rounds tend to drag out a good long while.

To be honest the invasions were the least concernig problems. We finished them off pretty quickly. Karkarov himself said that there is no point doing the fog glitch whatsoever. It just depends if the players put the signs when said or not. The failed summonigs mostly ruined the whole thing not the invasions. Since I got constantly invaded I doubt that the summonings failed because of me though...

I hope that's not addressed to me, I am not trying to be "hard" on him and I do appreciate his work. I'm sure you are right, it's not easy -- the feedback I give is meant to be constructive and help in the future, not to reprimand.

I still think summoning from the top of the gate is a better idea than from the archstone. Invaders might be dispatched quickly, but every time you get invaded, your world is sort of "locked" (to prevent further invasions) and you can't see red signs etc. for a while (sometimes up to a minute -- I've seen the archstone become grey for a full minute at least before the invader appears, and it takes another moment before it turns back to blue even after the invader dies), all this time wasted eventually adds up, and well they generally just disrupt the process.

Another suggestion I'd do (if it wasn't already in place) is a limit on the summon attempts. If the participant fails to be summoned twice from (say) a blue stone, attempt one last time with a red stone (just in case -- hey it worked for me once haha), or vice-versa. If that still fails, the participant is unfortunately DQed to save time.

Trust me when I say the only high percentage fix is a restart and the first time it fails is when you should do it because DS is like humpty dumpty once it gets broke it aint getting fixed. Not without restarting from scratch anyway.

i had to leave it was such a nice day out and my girlfriend was getting on me because i sat there on the game doing nothing for 2 hours. i attempted to fight but couldnt get my opponent in so they moved on. so i waited then it went to an intermission and by this time my girl was fuming and i still didnt do anything so i went outside and enjoyed the day. i could imagine it is very hard to organize this and there seemed to be alot of traffick at 4-1 that day. when i was going to fight i got red stoned and jumped 2x before i actually got into the match server and lost 2 lvls. o well. probably just an uchi push fest neway.

I don't entirely agree. During Midi's tournament, he tried to summon me from a blue sign several times and it failed (even after I had restarted my PS3, mind you). I then said, "ok last try, summon me from a red instead", and it worked immediately. ...Then it was WhiteRaven (who had initially been summoned from a red) who couldn't be summoned from a blue, lol.

Also, sometimes I coop with friends, and we do get the occasional "Summoning failed" from one side and/or "Failed to join the session" from the other, and a second try usually fixes it. So I don't agree that it will always fail again and again, not in my experience at least, I've had several successful second (sometimes third) tries.

But yeah, refusing to restart is lame and should be an automatic DQ really.

I had to make 3 chats for the 1st round though since it was impossible to fit 24 players into 1 chat so I divided into 3 chats with 8 participants each. The plan wasn't to get a winner out of each group. The 3 groups just had to have 4 fights each so half of the people are out by the 2nd round. So we would have had 12 people later on in the 2nd round in 1 chat (2 players went offline though and others had summoning fails). So the 2nd round didn't turn out well...

I didn't disqualify gun because I already summoned him once before so I thought that it must work somehow. I think I tried like max 30 mins to summon him since I just didn't want to give up (I know I wasted too much time on it). Afterwards I passed it over to Xlax to try summoning the players for the fight (since both failed for me and I thought it's my connection problem or so). Well there we wasted a lot of time again since they didn't stop at all after that. My desperate call was a postpone which I know wasn't the best move. I had no choice though since it was 5 am for me and I had to sleep a bit till noon. I had some big pans since it was actually my birthday lol.

So yea in the end the next day I could summon gun without any problems and he actually won this chaotic tourney lol. Congrats to guntaniskun and thanks to everyone who participated and went through this thing with me. Special thanks to Karkarov for taking the time and well, for at least trying to record a tourney :P.
