Forgive me for what is probably listed elsewhere. I tried using search but did not find anything. I've never been invaded, or used red stones. I've never even summoned help or been summoned. In the event bowing is appropriate, what do I push?

Hold X for a few seconds and you should see a list of "emotes". One of these is "Bow". You can also wave, point, etc.
You can also allegedly use the sixaxis motion controls to do the emote, but I never managed to get it working right. I prefer just to scroll to the emote itself and release X.

yeah i can sometimes get the 6ax to do it, but sometimes it does the wrong one... =p often i skip the emotes altogether when summoning/summoned since it's quite a period of not doing anything (you have to hold x for a fair bit).
I think it's better etiquette as a summoner to stay in the visible area of where the blue phantom is summoned, rather than rush ahead. And as Blue, to stay in the rough area of your host (keep in mind if the host dies, the blue automatically "dies").

press and hold X then move the controller left. That's the 6axis for bowing. The menu also lists the 6axis movements for each emote. While not as accurate, the 6axis bowing is quicker as u just have to be holding X and can do it b4 the menu shows up.

If the host dies, the blue does not die. He/she just goes back to where they had left their blue tag. Something I do when I su8mmon is once I have summoned a player, I hold the x button down, select the bow option and as soon as I see my help energize, I bow. Don't care if they bow back, bowing is just a way of saying, "Thanks for coming out"

that is why i said "dies" and not dies.
when a host dies, that session is immediately over - for a blue, it's the same as dying in the host's world and being returned to their own world.
By your definition, a blue can never die in a host's world.

The way you worded it, made it sound like you are saying the blue also dies. They don't die when the host dies. They just return to their world. Failed objective and go back to whence they came.
