It's what PS3 owners call it when the PS3 dies...Although it's not ALWAYS yellow when it dies. I believe its only yellow when there is a bluray drive issue.
Yellow light of death. It's the ps3 equivalent of red ring.
Also, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ylod (:

Yikes...sorry man. That blows..
What are people's thoughts about leaving the game disk in the drive when turning the unit on and off?

Yh man my ps3's have broken 4 times. First 1 was YLOD then i got free refurbishments which all died. Eventually got a slim + 3 years warranty.
Btw i wanted to restart. A lot of ppl dnt like it but the best thing to do is just make a low lvl char get sum 1 to dupe you a few sets of legendaries and then ure weapons.
It really sucks the only way to transfer save data is with 2 ps3s and an ethernet cable transfer...
You could always try fixing ure broken ps3 then doing this with a slim. It copies games with copy protection.

My bluray laser on my PS3 died on me two weeks ago. I bought a new bluray laser installed it last thursday. And now my ps3 is working like new. If your disk is stuck you can allways open up your PS3 and take it out that way. That is if you dont have warranty still on your PS3. But if you do decied to take it out manually you have to make sure u reset all the gears on the ps3 so that it ejects and takes the cds back in properly. If you dont do that the ps3 will think there is still a disk inside and it wont take or eject any disk.
If you decide to fix your ps3 urself send me a PM or post it here ill be glad to help you out in any way i can
and get you back to collecting souls :D

Good news!
I was able to fix(somewhat) my ps3 using the heat gun reflow method, however since I was too anxious and took apart the bluray drive to get DS out before I attemted the fix, I cant get the bluray drive to work now because it thinks theres still a game in there, so it does wacky chit when you try the eject button, but.....
who cares?! The thing would still turn on like normal so after a couple weeks of cracked-out hunting for a ps3slim I finally found one, performed a data transfer, and now my DS character is SAVED! (along with all my other data) Im gonna have to burn one to celebrate the news, hooray for me! :D

Nice turn out I was planning on doing the same but couldn't afford to buy a new ps3 without selling my old one.
Thankfully it didn't take me very long to restart and I was able to get everything back.
