I have heard a rumor that Raidou is the grandfather of Naoto from Persona 4. Is there any offical word on this?

I've never seen any info supporting or refuting a connection between the Shirogane family and the Kuzunoha clan. That Naoto seems rather surprised by the supernatural going-ons of P4 would lead me to think there's no connection.

That said, way on back when P4 was announced, I was super-excited because I thought a Kuzunoha was part of the cast. :P

thats a pretty strange rumor.

God I wish they would come out with Devil Summoner 3 though, because 2 was AMAZING.

I think the source of this rumor comes from a stray comment Chie (or maybe it's Yukiko) makes about Naoto in P4. In the original Japanese, after learning that Naoto came from a long line of Shirogane detectives, she said "Wow, like the Kindaichis!" referring to a popular series of Japanese mystery fiction starring generations of Kindaichi detectives.

We thought the reference was pretty obscure for the US audience but were stumped as to what could replace it, since a single long-running familial dynasty of detectives isn't found in any popular English-language mystery series. So we decided to change it to a nod at the in-universe lineage of detectives, the Kuzunoha clan, which appeared in previous Persona games as well as, of course, the Devil Summoner titles. However, some people misunderstood "Wow, like the Kuzunohas!" to mean that Naoto actually is a Kuzunoha, which isn't the case.

^Mr. Moto probably would've been obscure as well.

Technically we're up to Devil Summoner 4 O_o. Devil Summoner 2 was Devil Summoner 4.

Yes, I already know that. Since we live in North America. I'm going by what we have here. There is no point in calling it Devil Summoner 4 when we don't have the others, otherwise it'll just bring confusion to the forums.

And with said confusion will come a fifty page thread debating the validity of the number two versus the number four next to the title.

That would be different because no Devil Summoner game has been numbered except for RKvKA in the US.

I think someone has stayed a long time reading the Wild Mass Guessings of P3 and P4 on TVTropes... at least you didn't suggested a connection with the MC of P3 and Naoto... sheesh....

I figured it wasn't true that Naoto was related to Raidou (although the hat did make me second guess :P), but it would've been kewl >_<

Although then I gotta wonder what the hell kind of household Raidou was running where he's make his grand daughter not appreciate being a girl and other issues she had Dx

Sorry for being a dork and pointing out that the Kuzunoha titles/names aren't necessarily hereditary. :)

But dunno, Kuzunohas have issues like any normal person, so if Naoto were a Raidou it wouldn't be out of character to have gender issues etc.

Kind of reminds me of Final Fantasy 2 & 3, which were really 4 & 6.
Then 7 came out and some people were really confused.

Does not matter to me if it has a number or not just as long as we get another one.
