I thought this was an interesting story. It talks about how SCEA and SCEE thought the game would be a failure due to its difficulty.

SCEJ was reluctant but wanted to give it a chance outside of Japan and SCEE and SCEA were against it, so they signed it over to Atlus USA.

Instead of selling the the 15,000 initially expected, its now neared almost a 250,000 copies

Grats Atlus USA, you humble even the giants.

That has the sweet scent of sequel written all over it....

I paid $50 for my copy.

$50 x 250,000 = $12,500,000

12 million gross. Not shabby.

Demon's Souls has tremendous potential. It's a very unique style of game, especially considering the PVP and CO-OP elements.

Imagine how Demon's Souls would be if you can get invaded while playing in Soul form regardless if the host beat the boss or not? Soul Level requirements would be placed on spells/weapons/armor in order to avoid players from making "twinked out" low level characters and creating an unfair PVP environment. In additon, a level cap could be implemented in order to avoid players from maxing out all stats. This would ensure unqiue character builds and a very diversifed PVP environment.

Things like Firestorm, God's Wrath, and blunt weapons would have to take a hike due to thier "skill-less" nature. Back stab damage bonuses also causes problems when lag is a factor and should be addressed.

Remove the annoying parts and create incentives for multi-player and you've got a winning forumla.

I think there is potential here for Death Match scenarios as seen with the Battlefield series and Modern Warfare. A 32 player map with all types of builds in a specified range going at it.

Lets hope in the event that the rumors of Demons Souls 2 should be true that SCEA doesn't pull a dick move and publishes it themselves.

"should have" and "could have" phrases are words of insecure people. You do something and if not, you move on rather than crying about what could have or should have been. Go with your instincts and never have to look back.

Pibbman, careful with your words.

Heh, hope this guarantees a sequel

That said, I thought it was a sure bet that SCEA was going to release this in the US...

Good for ATLUS though. They've been the best rpg company since 2005-ish :)
Keep it up guys!

I have a feeling if From goes with DS2 they'll be loyal and hand it over to ATLUS again in the US

The problem is that it isn't just From Software's call they made it with involvement and at the behest of Sony Japan or SCEJ if you prefer that. So Sony does have a say over the sequal, who can publish it, and even the very content. Though they gave From a fairly free hand this time now they smell money in the air so they might not be so lenient next time.

True that (they even have Sony's name in the game's intro)

So they probably funded the game entirely
All's good to me, as long as it comes out on the ps3!

Just sucks for ATLUS though, since they were so cool with it all. Didn't ask for the game to be made "easier" nor did they censor anything........

Hope SCEA/SCEE don't force From Software to censor/make it easier...
They should see it as God of War game, where gore/blood is prevalent

Guess they're concern was difficulty though. Well, people bought it regardless so they better acknowledge that difficulty won't be a factor.

I think it was advertised as the hardest RPG out there...hence why I picked it up.
