View Full Version : How much time passes between Conception and Demi-fiend's journey?

Just curious - how much time has passed between the Conception occuring and the Demi-fiend awakening in the hospital? The reason I ask is because it seems as though alot of changes have taken place in Tokyo from point A to point B, and not all of them environmental.
I can understand that the landscape underwent serious changes when it became the Vortex World, but it seems to me as though it would have taken a bit of time for organizations such as the Mantra and the Assembly of Nihilo to form and leave the impressions that they have accross the Vortex World. I mean, if they just sprouted out of Hell in a matter of minutes, I don't think they would have had the time to become so feared among the locals. Their respective HQs are also home to some pretty unique architecture and technology...was this all set up in between the Conception and the Demi-fiend discovering them, or did they simply sprout out of nowhere?
Or, is the Vortex World is some sort of time-compressed state ala Final Fantasy VIII, where everything that appeared after the Conception has "always been".
Basically, what I'm asking is this: does the Conception represent the beginning of a seperate timeline from Earth, or does it jump into the middle of a seperate timeline? Or, is it a continuation of Earth's timeline?

I think no more than one day.

Until the protagonist becomes a demon, I think the world progresses at a different speed for the demons, Hikawa and Yuko. Perhaps a few months or years passed for them. For a normal human, it was a day.

By "normal human", do you mean the scattered souls of the deseased, or living people like Chiaki or Hikawa? Perhaps Hikawa is a poor example, as he seems to be more attune to the Vortex World than your average mortal.
So the demons took "years" to build stuff like the Obelisk, while to the humans they would have seemed to appear almost instantaneously?

My best guess would be about 20 years.
Heres why:
First, assembly of Nihilo is huge, there is no way Hikawa could construct his assembly to a point where it covers almost half of the vortex world in one day and create an army of demons to a point that it rivals Gozu-Tenoh's.
Second, to mass produce and set up bunch of Amala drums throughout Vortex Tokyo is just impossible to do in one day, and him being the owner of Cybers does not prove the fact that he sets these drums up strategically before the conception hits.
Third, Magatsuhi is a new kind of energy source that becomes apparent after the conception, for Hikawa to be able to use this source to power up his assembly in one day is one heck of an unimaginable feat.
I know 20 years range may sound kind of absurd, but realize the technology he uses to construct his assembly and the Amala Network, it just simply out of this world and time.
In addition, I also believe that human beings or anyone that lives in the vortex world cannot age or die unless killed. As for the MC, Chiaki, and Isamu case, I believe Yuko did something that protected them from being killed and will remove this protection when the time is ripe for them to est. their own reason.

I don't think any time has passed, the concept of the Vortex world is that it's a 'pre-world' and is thus malleable. I don't think any of the new structures were built so much as formed by the will of their respective owners. Hikawa wants to bring about his Reason and the Assembly of Nihilo was formed as a means to that end.
I do think time passes faster than you'd think as you travel though, which would account for a lot of the political groups and their maneuvering.

It also needs to be noted that most of said structures were formed by Hikawa, who had the Scripture of Miroku and thus had intricately planned everything that was to happen in the Vortex World before he ever went there. It's within the realm of possiblity that he had all these things done already simply because he'd been working on them for an unknown amount of time before the Conception even hit.

Looking back, you might actually be correct about the fact that he planned everything out. Thanks to the scriptures Hikawa knew that in order to establish his kotowari(reason) he needs army and technology that are both big and strong enough to collect magatsuhi for him. Since he also belonged in the Gaian cult, the possibility of him having connections with demons and their knowledge about the conception is very high, thus it is not much of a problem for him to assemble a demonic army who shares his ideal before the start of conception. But both of his army and technology cannot survive during the start of conception if they are placed on the surface, thus he decide to plan ahead by constructing his assembly underground before summoning Kagutsuchi...

I dont think that any time has passed..... n im even more certain of it after playing maniacs!.... first, the murders taking palce at yoyogi (was it?) park, hint that demons are living somewhere else, then at the vortex world theres alredy Nihilo and Mantra (dont forget mannekins), and the amala network-laberinth!!! lucifer was waiting for you or some demon to confront the system of the whole vortex world-amala universe way, and so i think that vortex world-amala laberinth where there even before the conception, its just that our world mixes with it....or something like that..............-.-u
Id like to add that i think, taking notice of the whole concept of the amala universe and all thouse worlds in constant creation and destruction happening in one place, makes me think that the other shin megami tensei games take place in thouse worlds (DDSs secret optional boss [how else would he got there?] its kind of a hint).
im sry 4 my english but im from Argentina
