Some other guy created a thread like this and I wanted to know my options without hijacking his.

I like survival horror and action games with class.

The things I won't play are as follows: MGS4.
DMC4, MAG, Infamous, MW2( Or any CoD's for that matter, )Bioshock 1-2,
Sports games in general, Ninja Gaiden, and Little big fail.

I take psn games.

Metal Gear Solid 1-4
Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare 2

Just messing. It's hard to tell what you like from what you don't like. Maybe Silent Hill genre? I hear that Monster Hunter is like Demon's Souls, except it's the other way around. Bosses are hard, but enemies easy.

Maybe this list might help you out.

Ninja Gaiden is the closest to this game. Here is why. You need good defense. It is hard, and it is fast, but fluid. Sound familiar. DS is better in my opinion, but both give you that good sense of accomplishment.

I like MGS4, but have only played through it once.

I think Monster Hunter is a lot like this game, PSP only though, or you could wait for the Wii version.

I played the older gaidens, but Sigma 2 failed me.

Thanks Kaijura.

My favorites at the moment are RE5(1st)
Demon's souls(2nd)
DeadSpace(3rd)
Borderlands(4th)

What can you make from that?

If you don't mind going retro seriously look at getting the King's Field games, particularly KF4: The Ancient City. Monster Hunter is similar and you may want to look at say Oblivion. Mostly you would want to look for open world RPG's or Sand box type games, they will have the most in common.

Since you seem to like Survival Horror though maybe you should check out Metro 2033. Maybe it will work for you as well? If you were a PC gamer I would actually reccomend the recently released Stalker: Call of Pripyat as well, it has similar... "overall" themes to DS.

Idk about anyone else's opinion but i find Monster Hunter much more merciless than Demon's Souls. I mean, it's total bs. You go after this dragon and you think "okay.. i think i'll go slash it (cause that's how i do >:D)" And well. After you get in a few strikes, and it finally enters that aggro mode (all bosses in this game enter this "rage" mode. And when they do, their attack goes up by like 1.5x and they attack MUCH more frequently) Okay so.
it's in rage mode. You slash it once, and it retaliates by swinging it's tail at you, so you're on the ground, getting up slowly. Then as you're getting up it decides it'll roar. leaving you defenceless for about 3 seconds, while it charges up some fire attack. BOOM. you go flying. Then while you're all the way on the other side of the battlefield, he decides to RUN at you. Yeah, RUN at you. at this point you're already considering using some herbs. Then No wait... after you're hit down by his rush attack, he decides to use his tail swipe AGAIN. >______________________>. It's like an SL10 versing an SL40 with unlimited endurance, some great sword (like DBS) and clever rat's ring+Morion blade combo. It's doable. It'll take awhile, but one wrong move will cost you around an hour's worth of work.

I don't know about that... the next game I got after DS was Fallout 3, and I gave up on it out of boredom after a few hours. Part of it may have been that I accidentially picked up a German-only version, so a lot of the atmosphere was ruined, but wandering around aimlessly waiting for something to happen got very tedious very fast. I actually like how linear the levels in DS are.

This is useless as a suggestion, but I actually have to say RE5 has a lot in common with DS in that you can upgrade your character (although it's only the equipment) and replay any level as many times as you want. Demon's Souls is superior in a lot of ways, but I liked that about RE5 and it's a big plus for DS to me as well.

I would agree with you to an extent. I think Fallout 3 is a highly over rated game and it did not ever really "hit me" with atmosphere. Once you have KF4 trust me it takes a hella good game atmosphere to make you notice. Compared to Stalker games or KF Fallout 3 has no atmosphere, even Oblivion (which it is just a gameplay copy of +guns) and Morrowwind (prequal of Oblivion) both own it on all terms that matter in my opinion.

That said what is Metro 2033? It is this: http://www.metro2033game.com/en

Not sure if you ever played it but, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Personally, between DS, MW2, and the new chapters for RE5 I don't have the time to fantasize about anything else...xept for Heavy Rain which I have been contemplating getting.

Ehm... I'm not sure if you want games that are like Demon's Souls, or if you want general suggestions. A lot of the games you listed are not very like Demon's Souls at all.

Anyways, Demon's Souls is like the lovechild between Monster Hunter and Diablo. Go ahead and give those a spin. If you want an RPG, I can suggest Morrowind and Oblivion. Nexuiz is a fast-paced FPS and it's free. DMC 3, since I guess you wouldn't have specified 4 if you had something against the whole series. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I've only played Shadow of Chernobyl, but from what I hear, Call of Pripyat is supposed to be really good, and Clear Sky is at least worth a look at. The game lacks polish and is pretty clunky. Obviously, you're used to that, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a much bigger offender in this category than Demon's Souls, so brace yourself if you take this one up.

Monster hunter, except that you dont have a psp :) But itīs the closest game to demonīs souls thatīs up to date aswell.

Kings field was as mentioned by others a great series but i think they would look quite dated by now.

However, i do have one big tip. Heavy Rain, no you wont upgrade your character(s) and itīs not an rpg, but it has atmosphere in spades and itīs engaging, has a great story, itīs mature and considering you like survival and horror i think that Heavy rain could be a game for you.

Wasn't a fan.

I don't think I'll be getting a game till Dead space 2 comes out.
GoW3 is only good for the story.

I got youtube for that.

King's Field is basically this games ancestor, and is a bit creepy and has the same isolated feel (except with no invasions. Instead the game is just harder).

Shadow Tower Abyss, however, heavily inspired this game right down to using soul (pods) to level up. It's really creepy and weird in some parts, basically every area is like a nightmare version of the Tower of Latria. Also you get guns and can dismember your enemies, which is quite fun. I'm pretty sure the sword of moonlight is obtainable somewhere but I'm not sure.

You have been hearing rumors on that one, there is no sword of moonlight in that game. It does have guns though....

If you want DS without DS then you have to go King's Field. You don't level by stealing souls no and the game play is obviously different in many cases but that is basically the end of their differences. Same type of setting, same focus on few npcs, same atmosphere, you start with a level one character who is a member of royalty, every named weapon has a story behind it, there is a moonlight sword, yada yada yada. Of course in KF it is a whole lot more bad ass than DS but those are the breaks.

Ok I do admit there is one other difference KF has music ;p

I think he may be talking about the King's Field game-making software, which FROM named Sword of Moonlight, if I'm not mistaken. Just a guess though.

Also, yes, I'd highly suggest King's Field (especially IV). We had a thread on it a while back, when a forumer, IceClimber, decided to get it after we said it was good and worth the few dollars it costs now.

You're a man that speaks to me. I don't like any of the games you mentioned, except for LittleBigPlanet, which I absolutely love.

Anyway, King's Field is similar, and it was made by the same company (like everyone else mentioned). I heard Monster Hunter is similar, but I have never played one before. I have the Monster Hunter Tri demo, so maybe I should check that out.

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, Fallout: New Vegas, Brink, and Id Software's RAGE

Hunted: The Demon's Forge (http://www.electronictheatre.co.uk/index.php/industry-news/4348-bethesda-softworks-reveal-inxiles-hunted-the-demons-forge-first-official-screenshots) is described as 'Gears of Dragon Age' or 'Army of Two Worlds'.

and Brink looks like Mirror's Edge combined with Borderlands.

Don't know how good any of these games will be though:p

I don't think Shadow of the Colossus has much in common with Demon's Souls at all. The only thing about their atmospheres that seems similar is the feeling of solitude both games convey, but they go about it in entirely different directions (and the former also does so much better), in my opinion.

Anyway, Shadow of the Colossus is an amazing game. While I would have never brought it up as a 'similar' game, it surely deserves to be played, regardless.

well, I would say the land in shadow of the colossus resembles some of the layout in Shrine of Storms. Apart from that comparison, there really aren't any similarities between the two. SoTC is one awesome game though as is its predecessor ICO and I am really looking forward to The last Guardian.

It's actually a LOT like DS, rather DS is a lot like VS.

Lone player, dungeon crawling, everything is based on upgrading weapons, easy to get pwned w/ bad upgrades, New Game +, huge bosses, some spells and magic....

VS is my fav PSone game and DS is one of my fav PS3 games, they share many aspects in common, including fantastic quality and replay value :seesaw:

Vagrant story is similar except it isn't real time combat, it is simulated but actually the same ATB system FF used for so long. However it is a good game. It is less about weapon upgrades though and more about using the right weapon on the right enemy, some enemies will just not die to a one handed sword, but you get a "decent" mace and they fall like a house of cards.

[more pics (http://mmohut.com/preview/vindictus)]

Vindictus article and Trailer (http://www.massively.com/2010/03/12/gdc10-nexons-vindictus-revealed/):
I'll admit to being somewhat of a Nexon fanboy, and someone that considers them to be in the toy business rather than in the MMO business. They manufacture joy in my eyes. Bright, shiny joy. But the recent announcement of their new title "Vindictus" shows us a game that we are not used to seeing from Nexon. While it will follow the same business model that other Nexon games do, it promises to be a "sexy" game: a game that will make players feel like a hero. It promises to be more of an action game, or as Nexon America's Vice President Min Kim put it when he sat down with us for an interview, "an mmoACTIONrpg, epic, fierce and intense."

The game is actually a prequel to Nexon's other popular title Mabinogi. It will use a modified Source engine, so expect brutally elegant gameplay that will be heavy on the physics. According to Kim, it will be "kind of like 300, except with sexy girls kicking the crap out of stuff as well. So, it's better than 300." He also spoke of how a player's armor will actually break and become damaged over time, and how a player can "get shot in the butt with an arrow, and will go around with an arrow in his butt." (Hopefully, healing will be part of the game too.)

While players will start out in large social areas to meet, buy things and to plan out adventures, they will travel into instanced areas as in Guild Wars. In these areas, though, players will enjoy the freedom to break almost anything and use it as a weapon. Tombstones and trees become clubs, and enemies can be bowled over by fallen pillars. Even your very enemies can be thrown!

"We want you feeling like you are going into the battlefield not only doing well, but looking really really cool."
While the same team that made Mabinogi are working on Vindictus, that is where the similarities end. Vindictus is bloody, but with a level of elegance to it. While Mabinogi has it's "fantasy life, meaning cooking and crafting, this game will be fantasy slash." The humans in the land, in their search for Erin (Mabinogi's world) decide to destroy all of the non-humans, the Fomors, that they find. Some of the Fomors are slightly misunderstood, though, with some factions that would rather make peace with the humans.

Character selection might sound sparse at first, allowing players to select from only 3 main characters. There will be a two-handed swordsman, a sword-and-shield female guardian type, and a scythe/mace wielding magician. Each character has its own fighting style as well. Then you can customize them more to your tastes. And Nexon being Nexon, we are sure there will be even more customization opening up thanks to items from the cash shop.

Armor will be treated differently in this game than in most MMOs. As you gain damage, you will literally see the damage on your armor. Arrows will stick in your shield, and dents and dirt will tell you that it's time to get repaired. "We want you feeling like you are going into the battle field not only doing well," said Kim "but looking really really cool."

Boss battles and combat will require a lot of teamwork, and will be quite challenging. In some battles, one player might latch a chain to an enemy while others in the party attack and cause damage. It's "kind of brutal, like a bullfight" said Kim, arrows sticking in the skin of the monster and blood flying. The endgame will consist of groups of 6-10 players, but as of yet features no PvP. Don't worry, PvP is planned and will be a part of the game some time after launch.

According to Kim, Vindictus might not just be the future of free-to-play, but possibly the future of PC. An exciting prediction, for sure. There will be a playable demo at E3 this year, and the release is scheduled for Q4 of this year. Until then, I will probably sit here and stare at these screen shots.

PVP, Co-op boss battles, battle damage armor and weapons. Sound alot like Demon's Souls eh?

best part is that its going to be a free to play MMOARPG:o

Nexon's Vindictus looks very similar to Demon's Souls, but ground breaking in the massively online, action RPG genre-fication. I have a decent PC that can handle any BioWare / Valve game, so this looks promising, and a must buy. If not a sleeper, Vindictus still looks much more enjoyable than the recent bore-festations...
