C'mon Atlus, throw me a bone. This is a stupid boss fight. What's the condition for not being booted back to 1F?

The jar fragments. Gotta get 'em all.
Edit: Oops. One more thing.
Don't overdo it. I can explain further if you'd like.

Normally I'd appreciate your cryptic approach. But the problem here is I have been getting all THREE of them, no good.
EDIT: So I went in there with my three fragments and just went boom boom boom on the Pot King and won right away. Makes absolutely no sense to me but whatever, on to the next level!

Well since you beat him, I'll tell you what the trigger is in case you want to share it with the internet.
He basically has a certain HP level that you can't consume all in one shot, or he boots you. I *believe* that trigger is his last 30 HP or so. If you take it all at once, he boots you.

Really, eh? Oh well! I guess that's Chunsoft's way of saying "don't overlevel, you fools!"
That said, the Dragon Orbs are also a bit confusing. I'm aware of the procedure. But it seems those that are directly by a wall can never be barrier-ed. The problem is that it's unclear WHEN you can finally grab the weapon.
Should we wait until the wind starts blowing, or as soon as the orb resonates? And what's the bell icon that sometimes shows up next to some weapons/staves?
Many questions about the Melding Jar too... thanks BTW.

Grab the weapon when the wind starts to blow for maximum leveling without fearing that the wind will kick you out
The bell indicates that the items is blessed so it's stronger (for exemple a Recovey Staff will heal for 60 instead of 30)
and what about the Melding Jar?

Help! I've been searching the internet for hours trying to find a faq for this game - does anyone have any leads on this? I love this game but can't figure out what to do at the 10th level of the mansion interior when the Sensei and boss and 4 monsters come out (it says we should find an exit) but I can't find one and I can't harm the bosses, everything I throw deflects off of them. I'm level 30 and have strength around 10 and am totally confused. I even tried stepping on each of the gray little spots on the floor that look like traps with each character in each possible way and still I cannot figure this out. Anyone know? Also I am still trying to figure out how to level up weapons besides using an air/soil bless scroll - I know Chocobo had a blacksmith but I am also unable to find this man/woman in the places I've been - am I too young in the game to do this? ANY help would be a huge deal for me - I'm addicted to this. Thanks.
(Sorry-I tried to post a new thread but admin said no)

First of all, paragraphs... to use them is to love them.
1. Interior: You must step on all three switches at once. To make things easier, knock one of the archers on top of a switch, make sure the boss isn't around to wake him up though. As soon as you step on all three switches, the fight is over so don't worry about killing any of them.
2. blacksmith: Buy the rotten riceball. Go inside the blacksmith's house, read the scroll on top of the table. Once in the past, talk to the blacksmith's ancestor. Back in the future (woo!), talk to the blacksmith again. He has to rest some more then it'll be OK. Note that he can only augment your weapons, not merge them like in Chocobo Dungeon. For that, you'll need a Melding Jar (found in Portal).

I had two melding jars but I don't think I got them in the portal.. all I do is die in there. I think I got them in the exterior mansion.

I am also stuck at the Pot King. Either I'm missing something, or this part of the story is very unfair. Basically I have a little stockpile in my storage, which i'm very wary of using up, and right now my only options are: Portal Dungeon, Pot dungeon, or the tea house. The pot dungeon is alright, but the boss has proved very difficult, I can do a fair bit of damage to him, but then I'm overwhelmed with enemies once he starts spewing out like 3 per turn.
So my other option is Portal. I'm finding portal to be exceptionally difficult, especially the ornate birds and pretty much every monster after that poses a huge threat if I don't go in with a great shield or weapon. And naturally if I go in with nothing, I won't find any sword or shield because that's my luck.
Usually I would head to an earlier dungeon and grind up a bit to get some items again, but now I'm in a losing spiral until I can beat the jar. Any tips?

Collect three pieces of the jar, then you're out of there. You don't have to meld them either.

I got that; my problem is with the Pot King boss though.

If you're having problems with the boss itself, you may be underleveled, but more than likely, your strategy is inefficient or your weapons are weak. Try some new tactics, or spend some time in the dungeon to gain a level or two. You'll keep those, should you die.

Huh...when I died on the boss, I'm sure I lost my items.

I was referring to your levels. Your weapons will be lost if you're playing on normal.

Right, right, read that wrong, sorry.

My goodness. Unless I'm missing something, this save file is now useless.
You either have to be extremely lucky and start with nothing, or you take in stuff to portal to get to floor 10 and escape with stuff. I am/have neither of which.
You either have to be extremely lucky and start with nothing, or you take in stuff to make any progress with the pot dungeon whatsoever. I am/have neither.
There is no way to backtrack to the earlier dungeons to get items again.
Only option is to either be extremely lucky (not gonna happen) or make a new file, probably on easy mode. Also, any way to skip cutscenes? Seeing the pot dungeon intro thing over and over is irritating.
Surrenderingly,
goodmenace.

I see your predicament now. So you lost all your weapons after dying in the pot dungeon? :very_sad: Is there a chance of finding new weapons in the pot dungeon? I don't remember picking any up.
I'd keep this file and keep trying but make a new one on easy so you can finish the game. There's one other time in the game where you can't backtrack, right before the final dungeon, but you do have storage and bank access, and I think a shop too if I remember correctly.

I'm ok with starting again, I doubt I'm too far in the game yet, and I laid down big bucks for it. I'm used to Shiren games being punishing; I've died over 40 times on the DS Shiren, and still love it and keep going. But this feels less like difficulty and more like design flaw, and that's what aggravates me.
