Hey, everybody! So Shiren the Wanderer should be available at retailers across North America as of the time this goes live! Now, I know what you’re thinking. “You said the last blog was your last blog! What are you doing back, Mr. Scott Strichart, project lead?” Ah, but this is the post-blog, in which I’ll be discussing the post-game! See how that works? (I’ll go light on the spoilers, don’t be scared.)

We’ve really only hinted at some of the things you’ll be facing in Shiren’s post-game thus far, and with good reason. I previously only casually mentioned the “1,000 floor dungeon” and Clayton told you that the story of the post-game had some light-hearted side stories to look forward to.

Floor 998! Pro tip: If you’re getting hit for nearly half your life bar, you’re in trouble.

For all you hardcore rogue-like lovers out there, the post-game content is where the game is going to take off its gloves. You’ll have several side dungeons that become available, two DLC dungeons included directly on the disk, a full-scale battle arena, and all of them are there for the express purpose of testing your skill and your limits.

Most of these dungeons are going to start you at level 1 with an empty inventory, as you’ve come to expect from the Shiren series. (You will be threatened that anything you’re carrying will be lost upon entering, so go store it!) In some of them you will be alone, in others you can bring your friends, and in one of them attempting to do anything but find the stairs is a sure-fire way to die. That’s right, there’s an entire dungeon dedicated to making you run for your life.

You are free to tackle the post-game in any order you’d like, and you may even find new, hardcore dungeons that have replaced old ones in some cases. However, I recommend starting with the tournament. In these all-or-nothing battles, Shiren alone will have to tackle several tiers of bosses that will culminate in a battle that we here at Atlus consider the toughest boss fight the game has to offer. As much as I’d love to help you prepare for it, alas, to do so would be to spoil it. Good luck
out there.

We can all aspire not to taste horrible death.

Of course, I suppose not everything in the post-game is strictly limited to the hardcore audience. A new side quest opens up immediately upon loading up your clear data, and there’s also an entire dungeon that becomes available that happens to be filled to the brim with Dragon Orbs. These are handy for upgrading your equipment to the godly status you’ll need for tackling the rest of the game, and who knows? Once you’ve got the equipment you need, you may feel up to the task of braving those 1,000 floors.

But listen to me go on about the stuff that happens after the ending when you guys are just now getting your hands on the game. Take your time enjoying the main game, and if you find it “too easy” (because you’re just that cool), try to remember what’s coming. The post-game is quite substantial, and it’s a great bonus chapter for those of you who can’t fathom how the grandfather of rogue-likes would let you keep your levels and potentially your items. Just don’t come crying to us when those hardcore dungeons chew up your soul and spit it out. After all, you’ve been warned.

Thanks Scott!

This is a VERY ESSENTIAL ASPECT no review so far had even hinted at and is my FAVORITE PART (well, actually, IMHO, is the best part of all of the Mystery Dungeon games)!

Although, just to correct you on one thing, unless you've changed stuff in the English port you DO NOT have access to everything right off the bat. My favoritest dungeon in the game has you going through a number of hoops before you can gain access to it even after clearing the main story!

This is really awesome. I can't wait to tackle these extra dungeons. This game is going to have much more replay value than I thought, thanks Atlus :)

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Holy cow, the Battle Arena bosses sure tested me. The final time I took them down took me about 20 minutes. I didn't know how to approach the boss with all the hands.. I think his name was Ragoon. At first I thought if I just killed all the hands he's be gone, but no, they just kept regenerating. Once the "head" warped close to me I was able to slash it twice, then it warped away again. Finally, the next time it warped, I wasn't in stricking range but took it down with a couple arrows.. of all things!! So yeah, that really lived up to my expectations of a challenge!
