Well a friend of mine is interested in joining DBP (dream build play) next year and I'm helping him get some idea.

He and some of our friends are thinking of making a 2d Action RPG with beat'em up elements.

Just thought of getting opinions from people here =p

I'm not familiar with DBP, so I can only tell you of my experiences.

My suggestion for any game developer is to start small. Back when I was prez. of the game club in college, we developed and played a very primitive rpg. It was literally directing the character from point A to point B and to defeat the boss. Very simple.

Later, we had a team skilled enough to create a 2D base rpg. Kinda like a mini-DnD thing. We did the story, main goal and elements to make it interesting. Sadly, I left before I could see the final project. But some of my class mates when on to work for Ubi, Bioware and Square.

If this is completely off topic, I apologize.

We'll they've worked on some games already my friend worked as a designer for an indie MMOFG and the progs worked for outsourcing XNA code so they probably won't have much problems on that part.

We'll they just wanted to gather what players would want to play so they can tweak the design =p

And no prob.
