War, war never changes. Except if you count the changes between Fallout 2 and 3 as WAR CHANGING!

I just noticed that Obsidian is developing this game and Bethseda is simply the publisher. This could be really bad folks as everytime obsidian has picked up a game from another dev they have turned a wonderful series into a bug ridden mess.

Same trailer, larger screen.

Anyways someone on the xbl forums pointed out this:
Not Enclave, He was carrying the flag for California which leads me to think he is part of the NCR from Fallout 2.

fallout 3 was an excellent game, minus the bugs. hopefully this will surpass its predecessor in many ways. and will they try to incorporate online play with this. i would wet my pants if they did.

People won't notice the difference as Bethesda still loves leaving bugs in their games.

I am still more a fan of Fallout 2 than 3 especially with the cheap ending...

Which is pretty bad when Bethesda games already start out as bug-ridden.

I wonder if they are using the same engine as Fallout 3. I doubt it'll happen, but I wouldn't mind the series going back to more tactical, less FPSy gameplay.

Uh guys, the battle system and engine are sticking. You can probably expect better graphics, a better more visible fleshed out story (Fallout 3's story sucked imo) and possibly some minor interface and gameplay changes.

Full length game and not a sequel to Fallout 3, and NO Its not Isometric turn based.

Are you sure you don't mean that Bethesda turns a wonderful series into a bug ridden mess?

I hope this game will be closer to the original Fallout, but seeing how it's more important to appeal to the larger audience these days, I bet it will be just another FPS with slight RPG elements.

Did you ever actually play Fallout 2? It's up there with Troika titles in terms of bugs.

Which makes sense as a lot of Interplay/Black Isle people formed Troika.

I hear its because every game Black Isle has ever had have been rushed by their publishers. Obsidian is also whats left of Interplays/Black Isle's development team.

That's part of the problem, but that excuse starts wearing thin when it's used for every single game they've had published (talking about Troika and Obsidian here). When the same thing keeps happening and forcing you to ship buggy, incomplete games, perhaps you need to step back and reevaluate your design philosophy.

I played with unofficial patches so F1/F2 were perfect, but no unofficial patch could make Fallout 3 nearly as "clean".

Also, at least Obsidian know how to make excellent RPGs, so I can live with some bugs as long as Bethesda isn't behind it.

Fan patches took a decade to make the first two games perfect, so let's hold off on making such claims about Fallout 3 until 2018. It's only fair.

And that doesn't touch on the point I was actually making. You can't criticize Bethesda for Fallout 3 being buggy when the first two games were easily just as bad with regards to bugs. Bringing fan patches into the discussion is trying to deflect the issue; given enough time and a dedicated enough fanbase, any bug-ridden game will eventually reach a state of perfection.

I don't recall having any problems with the PC version of Fallout 3... I think I might have got stuck inbetween a rock once, but that might have been Oblivion. Either way it was the only minor problem I had and it was easily resolved by reloading my last save.

I had a similar experience with the 360 version. The only glaring bug I can remember was Dogmeat randomly showing up during a storyline mission despite me leaving him parked back at my house. Outside of that, I saw a few geometry and clipping issues, but you get those in literally every 3D game that has ever and will ever be made.

I know that fanmade patches are kinda pointless bringing up, I just always build up a bit of rage when I see people actually talking positively about the developers Bethesda in a discussion about Fallout. I just think it's a shame that the first games which were excellent are being almost completely ignored while people are orgasming over F3 all the time.
I know that most of these people started with F3 and therefore it's kinda like FFVII is for many. But I too started with F3, and thought that F1/F2 looked a bit too dated. I did try them out because I was a fan of F3, but I was a bit bored at first. I gave it some more time a while later and when I got into the game I fell even more in love with the world of Fallout (F3 already impressed me a great deal). That's when I realized that F3 is a pretty weak and hyped game. Seeing how good the first in the series were, with strategic turn based combat, excellent dialogue and an even better stat system, it almost saddens me that F3 failed to live up to this, and instead chose to appeal to the FPS generation (There's no denying that many people would have strayed from this game if it had the same turn based system that F1/F2 had). It also reminded of the cold truth that games are now made "by producers for consumers" instead of made "by gamers for gamers", like it used to be.
The one thing that almost made Fallout 3 feel like an evolution to the series, was the exploration. There was a great sense of exploration which made the player feel like he had to see everything out there. But that was about it, everything else mostly felt like the opposite of evolution. There were less charm in the dialogues, you didn't have as many choices, the mood was weaker, the story was dumber, the game was too easy (I didn't feel like I had to struggle to survive, despite living in a death-ridden wasteland) and as mentioned, the gameplay was turned into a simple FPS.
For New Vegas to become a truly good game, in my eyes at least, it would have to combine the sense of exploration from Fallout 3 with pretty much everything in Fallout 1 and 2.

As has already been mentioned, the likelihood of Obsidian creating a new engine for this game is zero. I think Obsidian's best bet is to get rid of the poorly implemented AP (really just the game slowing down) system and work on tightening up the shooting/melee mechanics.

It felt like a misguided attempt to bridge the gap between games that didn't really have much in common. I mean, if they wanted to give Fallout 3 a nostalgic feel they should have just implemented AP in the same manner as Fallout 1 & 2. If they wanted to give a character the ability to slowdown time while attacking they should have just done so. Instead, it felt like they intentionally gimped the shooting mechanics just so players would use the AP system.

That's a perfectly valid position when it comes to the Fallout series. Personally, I started with the original PC games and absolutely love them, but the day I heard Bethesda bought the rights to the series I knew that I'd never see games like those again. Instead of impotent rage, I just accepted that and decided to judge Fallout 3 on it's own merits.

But really, that's all beside the point. I originally spoke up because you called Fallout 3 a bug-ridden mess which, while apparently true (judging by reports online; as I said, my experience was relatively bug-free), is pretty much par for course with this series :).

That is one very clear time when the blame should be laid squarely at the feet of the publisher and not the developer. There isn't a lot a tiny studio can do when LucasArts waltzes up and tells you that your half finished game is shipping for the holiday season and ignores every plea that you need at least six more months.

Second this statement. I had a few friends suggest Fallout 3 to me, and I talked to several others about it before I finally took the plunge.

I'm really happy I did. Aside from the sometimes bad voice acting (more due to lack in variety / number of actors), I have had an absolute blast with Fallout 3.

I don't think it is as good as Fallout 2 (I can understand why people do get upset about the different styles), but it is still damn fun.

Just don't pay attention to the complaints regarding the story. There is a wealth of info and side stories to be found in the numerous side missions that more than make up for any perceived weakness of the main storyline.

I could get Fallout 3, but I'm not sure whether it would be worth it to get the GOTY edition or the regular edition - GOTY is $60 and standard is $25...

ViolenceJack

There's 5 DLCs, each are 800pts ($10), 5x10 is $50. So you could pay $25 for the original and another $50 for the dlc. or you could just pay $50.

Fatney

I would go for the regular edition, because the only DLC that is worth it in my opinion is Point Lookout (To compare you could call it a lite version of Shivering Isles, if you ever played that. While the other DLCs are pretty short and extremely linear) so you could just buy that one and save yourself a lot of money.

Word, I got the GOTY edition as well. I have dozens of hours put into it and still not anywhere near officially done with it. I have played most of the add on content though. I enjoyed all of them. Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta were a little bland compared to the rest of the overall game but I say all the of add ons are worth playing through.

I done my first run through with good karma the whole way. I'm tempted to soon start a game with a neutral or bad karma all the way through.

For me one of the things that originally stood out to me when first playing was the moment you step out of the vault. That part was so well done, the expansive view of the post-apocalyptic wasteland really drew me in, so yeah, the first thing I done was explore the surrounding area. Like most probably did, I ended up at Megaton before long but if I remember correctly I think I got my ass kicked by raiders in that school before I ended up there. Fallout 3 is among my favorite games of this gen so far, so I do have high hopes for New Vegas. Especially since some previous members of black isle are working on it.

Taken from the XBL Forums.
There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.

The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents.

Set in the Mojave wastelands. Vegas didn't get many nukes. More intact buildings, as well as desert vegetation. Vegas itself is mostly intact.

You don't play a Vault Dweller (or descendant of one) but a courier, left for dead and saved by a friendly robot.

There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.

There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.

There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS - specifically a move for a golf club called "Fore" which seems to be a groin shot.

Bartering is not just lower prices but negotiating for better rewards.

Followers can be managed through a context-sensitive menu, with orders like "follow", "stay" or "attack".

The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.

There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion.

The Geckos are back.

There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.

Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.

Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger

The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot

Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels

A character generation shot showing a "vigour machine" instead of the skill book

NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter.

NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger

Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.

There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma.

Yeah at first I was not excited for this one at all. Fallout 3 is highly overrated in my opinion, and yes I have played most of the good expacs including Broken Steel. However this game seems to be what Fallout 3 should have been so far. It is much more connected to the older story, alot of the team making it were on the original Fallout 1/2 teams, it doesn't seem to be as "big and empty" like the mostly boring DC wasteland, companion AI and control is vastly improved, a number of new weapons are going in, and the game while playing the same with the same engine is getting fixes to previous issues and many textures/character graphics are getting touched up. So right now... I am thinking of going ahead and buying. I just hope the main story isn't so absolutely weak this time. If it weren't for Liam Neeson I wouldn't have given two craps about it.

Also Fallout 3 was buggy as hell. On the pc version I had multiple crashes, npc ai that was flat stupid (thats right unarmed escort person you can run in ahead of me and take 5 super mutants with AK's alone!), lots of graphical glitches, and a memory leak. The cake definitely goes to my own personal mega bug! Once after completing multiple DLC adventures I had returned to the capitol wasteland and was doing some exploring in a cave. It was late at night and I was tired so I saved and quit. The next day when I got back around to playing again I noticed something. Every single bit of my DLC progress quest wise was gone, all of my gear from DLC missions was also gone to boot.

It was late at night and I was tired so I saved and quit. The next day when I got back around to playing again I noticed something. Every single bit of my DLC progress quest wise was gone, all of my gear from DLC missions was also gone to boot.

WOW . yeah it was buggy but i never had a bug like THAT happen.. and I have fallout, the dlc's, and hundreds of mods added to it and.. it's fine. I do get bouts of CTD and managed to finally learn to avoid those by disabling auto-save in every way.

I'm psyched for the expansion, and if they managed to get rid of a lot of the bugs issues and problems from fallout 3 then more power to them. I wonder if they'll allow any kind of character import, or possibly allow for game modding (or using fallout 3 game mods) with the new release. Most likely older mods won't work due to the many changes they're making, but it would be awesome if they did allow it to be modded like f3 was. there is still a hefty community working at that game and I'm looking to add to that soon enough. :)

Uh it is not an expansion, it is a new game. The engine is the same and graphics will be similar, but thats it. New location, totally new main character who has no connection of any kind to any past main character, new factions, etc etc. I seriously doubt Fallout 3 mods will work with it.

Gotta at least support the stores that still sell SNES games.

I am thinking it will take more than 6 months for that store to close anyway since at the opening they still had more than the one in Round Rock which is closing soon.

^ This is true.

Sadly however, after reading the comments on Kotaku & lack of a return to the Fallout 2 roots that haven't been brought back to the game without heavy modding, frankly I'm a bit put off.

I might grab it later, but the collector's edition's are really getting too overpriced these days. I love the return of groups & characters from F2, so it still does have my interest indeed.

yeah the collector's is damn pricey.. but if it goes off as well as the original fallout 3 GOTY collectors.. that price may just KEEP going up.. lol.

big question is did you really enjoy Fallout 3? I mean it's mostly just a soup-to-nuts mod of the original game with lots of new stuff. so the core gameplay is still the same. A lot of fans of the original 3 fallout packages HATED this presentation because it strayed so far from the style and tone of the source material.. I personally loved it, so I'll have no issue grabbin this sucker unless reviews across the boards scream 2/10 or something :)

I think I'm just getting tired of collecting in this series, maybe. I actually still have my lunchbox & head bobble fallout boy from F3. I guess I'm thinking why should I keep buying all these when the hardcore fans aren't really being listened to in favor of a broader family friendly (but lovers of violence, as long as it's not on children) market, possibly.

I still haven't finished it, & funny thing is I have all the expansions + the child killing mod, & nude when clothing is taken off mod, but overall as is it just didn't keep me interested enough to keep on playing.

I guess it had its moments but really, I constantly was thinking in my head from each event going on about the fact that the world just isn't realistic enough. It was more like a comic relief of an apocalypse instead of an adult themed unique, dreary, well thought out experience. I really could go on a rant but I don't feel the need to. I think you know what I mean, you already kinda nailed it.

I just had some glimmer of hope that with the new developers & some old from F2 it might bring all what I'm missing back from what drew me in the first place; harsh realism, adult humor & very real adult content. Not juvenile jokes about sex with a robot & invincible kids that are always pure.

Look, I know you played the others. Maybe the differences don't matter to you, but they impacted it enough for me. It didn't feel to me that the entirety of those games were a joke during the first 2 but it did in 3. Just a few examples like, the tribes felt closer to what might actually happen, the way cities were, rival factions, the children stealing from you while homeless, those things made it feel more disturbing.

If that means nothing to you having a more realistic gameplay experience from this series, good for you, simple.

Trucido Umbra
09-14-2010, 07:33 AM
It wasn't a joke back then, I do remember we even came within 2 minutes to midnight some years later.

If that's the only thing it's ever been about (just a joke entirely) I'll just leave it that way for those who enjoy only the current level of humor it is limited to.

If even the influences from other mediums had no purpose whatsoever to give a feeling of possibility that any of it at all was what 'could' have happened, then I'm sure you'll continue enjoying it.

Pretty interesting and insightful article interviewing one of the dev's for this HERE (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/05/interview-josh-sawyer-on-fallout-new-vegas/).

I am curious what the original 6 months of work was producing for his teams initial Fallout 3. lol. Wonder if it was similar to Fallout 1 and 2 or on track with what Bethesda did.

I.. I don't really consider the fallout series so much a joke, but I can't say it is because I am some kind of expert. Mostly it's because I haven't played fallout 1 and 2(but I have hopeful plans to do so :) ). My experience is with the PC version of Fallout 3 + dlc's, and from what I saw with this installment... it rarely had a tongue-in-cheek feeling to it. I didn't see the setting of the 1950's core technology and tone as funny.. but frightening. There is a familiarity to it, yet in this setting, and because I didn't grow up in that era, a certain alien nature to it as well. The fact that a lot of the style, themes and technology is fairly accurate in their design(not beat for beat accurate, but I should maybe state "appropriate") also shows how powerless the general public was when everything hit the fan with flames. The mentality from those times, of nuclear devastation and world war, was palpable, and created some interesting psychological shifts in the public, a dichotomy where some people were convinced life was going to end any day, and people who held strict faith in their government/military and used that as a security blanket. And of course people who ignored it all and believed they were in no great danger. :)

I guess what fascinated me in general with the game and it's themes initially was the juxtaposition of ideas. It is a world based on 1950's technology and general history, but the game takes place AFTER this so it is technically a futuristic setting. You have some new and sci-fi technology amongst the classic old world limitations of tube televisions and low-fi radio transmitters. Towns of citizens in a state of denial trying to live a wholesome typical life right next door to cannibals and raiding psychopaths. You have children forming societies in the darkness, and huge behemoth mutant things straight out of some saturday matinee b movie.

The visual sense I got from seeing the devastation and destruction always gave me a sense of horror and humbled respect for war and bombs. At the same time I was fascinated to see landmarks like the Lincoln memorial or Arlington Cemetary damaged. And of course, I was thoroughly impressed with the level of detail and thought they put into some of the destruction to towns and cities(the fact one could almost track the path of debris, see how a fallen structure would have landed and compromised nearby buildings, etc).

Sadly, I suspect such imagery will be missing from New Vegas, as from what I've seen it was not hit as hard and brutally as the areas around Fallout 3's Washington DC and surrounding burgs. BUT, according to this interview I posted initially, the aspects of rugged survival and strategic choices for weaponry, fighting style, and loot to carry(and companions to stick with) will be tightened and tweaked, and those gameplay aspects were also a draw for me once I got knee deep into the game.

That is why I don't see so much of the "joke" of the game, but maybe it's just because I missed the joke in my own dumbstruck "awe" of it all. I did recognize and see some of the sick dark humor that was there, but that was situational more then the overall THEME of the game.

I think I'll still shoot for getting this game, especially if they release it as moddable for the pc. WHen I played I grabbed a LOT of game tweaks and loved the options that allowed. :)

I agree about the level of detail they had with the "world" of Fallout 3. The only thing is that won't be repeated and not for the reason you stated. Bethesda's main offices are actually in Washington DC, so they literally knew the area the game took place in like their back yard. That's why it felt so authentic. In fact you can actually get into the Bethesda HQ in game ;p, it is laid out according to the actual floor plan of the place apparently.

C'mon man you don't think I noticed that? lol. Though you drive a good point. This new title is done by folks who didn't live in Vegas(the interview shows this in stating the guy had to motorcycle up there for a visit) so there is a certain level of thorough detial that is likely missing.. but then again.. las vegas isn't really that big and almost every corner of that town has been documented in pictures, film, and news 10x over.. so they may still do a decent job.

One of my old jobs was contracted with a company out of vegas.. I am curious if they pop up at all in this game.. lol.

Well I think they did it because that was a time where tension was highest about nuclear war.

Kind of if you replace the term tension with paranoia. The North American continent was relatively safe from a large scale nuclear attack during the entirety of the 1950s. The Soviet Union simply did not posses effective or reliable delivery methods for a deep penetrating nuclear strike into U.S. territory.

I agree with Slayn though. I believe the setting's 50ish style was chosen more for its kitsch appeal than as an attempt at social commentary - especially if you consider when Fallout 1 was released.

Well so far it is ok. I already feel like the sense of the world is stronger in this game though than Fallout 3. The location was well realized in 3 but I couldn't bring myself to care about it really and the whole conflict felt forced. This time things make alot more sense and your enemies don't get sprung on you in the last 3 hours of the game.

I alreaday ran into some caesar's legion for example and while I knew they would be "bad people" I didn't expect to see people crucified and left to die in the streets and get regaled with a story of how they maimed and tortured people for days by a dude wearing a wolfskin hat. After which he politely asks me to go around the mojave and tell people all about what he just told me too .....

This kind of activity from a super mutant didn't really bother you since they were little better than monsters. When a guy speaking the queens english and is as nice as can be is the perp something about it is a little more sinister. Of course he was dressed up like a looney toon and was accompanied by flesh eating dogs and a bunch of dudes with crude saw like polearm weapons...

There's a Nest of Deathclaws between you and New Vegas as well. I killed a Young Deathclaw and wasted about 40 rounds of Ammo even with Phycho. Might have to get some stronger guns to take out the Alpha Male and the Den Mother ones.

There's a guy in the NCR outpost that can repair your stuff to 100% at the cost of caps though.

After I killed that first Reaver, by draining vats and using phycho & jet, I ran into two more, luckly the first one got stuck so I was able to shoot it until it died. Unfortunately the area was heavily radiated, so I ran into a building and the 3rd one followed me in there. After they were dealt with I had about 600rads with no Rad-Away. Had to go back to Goodsprings and have the Doc heal my rads.

When you can, get the Nightvision Scope for your Vermint Rifle it helps a ton. Its available in the Goodsprings general store.

If you kill 50 Insects you'll get a perk called Bug Squasher, It kind of works like the Entomology perk, letting you deal more dmg to Bugs, I think it has 3 ranks, so you have to kill like 150 of them to max it out.

I havent found any info on there being a Dart Gun in NV, which is sad It sure would of helped against the nest near Sloan.

I dont know if you can do them all, since some Quests will end up getting you Vilified against another faction. And I dont know if you can get back on terms after you're hated.

Also, try to avoid the Come Fly with Me quest for the time being. Apparently a lot of ppl are experiencing a Save game corruption glitch with that quest amoung many other problems. If you grab the Spacesuit on the 360 it can corrupt your save.

There are tons, tons of side quests to keep you busy for hours. I'm now on good terms with NCR (they gave me a distress signal so that if I'm in trouble, they'll come to my resque), and Followers of the Apoc. (they give you a discount, on meds, then later they give you a free chem every 24 hours).

*cough* I can tell you where to find a set of reinforced combat armor mk II, and yes I found it on my own legitimately. It is literally just sitting there, thing is it is in the middle of nowhere so your odds of running into it aren't what I would call good.

That said the enemies will still hit you like a ton of bricks.

I think Hardcore mode is okay. It doesn't affect combat difficulty, maintaining my hunger/sleep/hydration is pretty easy and it's nice not to regenerate just by sleeping.

And does anybody know of somewhere I can stash my stuff? I sorely need to get rid of some stuff, but I want to keep almost everything I got :P Preferably a house of my own, I'm asking here since I don't want to read any spoilers while checking it up myself.

You can use any of the Houses in Nipton, or you can use Victor's Shack in Goodsprings.

Judging by my experience from F3, bloody mess is boring since the exploding body parts happens every time and then you just get kinda tired of it.

Came across 7 Cazadors north of Vault 22, luckly they seem to have poor perception so I was able to snipe all 7 of them with my Vermint Rifle. 50xp each. Cazadors look like large mutated wasps.

Went into Vault 22, that place was creepy, it screams Resident Evil to me personally. I decided to head back out and grab some mines b4 proceeding further.

Can't wait to find some vaults. I always found them to be very creepy and atmospheric in F3, I bet they're even better this time around as everything else is.

I recruited Boone a while ago and honestly, he does most of the fighting for me. I'm actually a partially combat-focused character and I try to fight, but he kills everything much faster than I do so I only get to land a few hits before he finishes the enemies off. Good thing I get the experience. I also got that robot companion, decided to keep him around to do his quest but he kept dying and I was tired of reloading, so I just left him in some town after he got destroyed. He was annoying anyways, but made cute beeping noises during dialogue. I really want Rex as a companion though, he looks cool and I loved Dogmeat in the previous games. So I'm heading to New Vegas right now after finishing a good deal of quests done in the south-east region. I really have to go to bed now so I saved at the 188 place; I've found the first and probably the only child in the game, and he was very strange and interesting. Wish I had enough spare caps to listen to him ranting about the world.

Ohhh, I love this game! I'm not sure whether this or Bayonetta deserves my personal GOTY award.

If I didnt have the special hunting rifle 'That Machine' I'd of been dead about 4 deathclaws ago lol. 5 shots and their dead, 1 sneak attack hit on young deathclaws will usually work as well.

Played the game for like an hour and a half this morning and died when I ran into The Legion for the first time... managed to take out 2 recruits but the assassin's tore my ass up. Turned the game off and went back to play it later that day and my autosave loaded me back to where I started earlier that day... I was pissed. Luckily it didn't take long to get back where I was before since I just skipped all the dialog and knew exactly where to go, but now I know to always save manually.

I picked this up for my friend for his b-day. He has both the xbox 360 and the ps3(and a pc that could run it too ) but he opted for the xbox version as it will actually run at the full 1080p on his 47" lcd tv. It's weird to see a game that has all the similarities and "feel" of the old fallout 3 but .. isn't. it really feels like a massive custom mod. I was amused to see so many of the "mods" created for F3 are now regular content ideas in FV(weapons mods, sight aiming, etc). And I have to say, seeing tool benches to make and break items and ammo was pretty kool.

So using cheap ammo degrades weapons faster. Anyone notice a huge difference or how FAST it degrades it vs regular or special ammo?

Anyone notice if the long "questionnaire" in the beginning actually makes 1 wiff of difference in your starting stats? I assume(like the G.O.A.T.) it just helps pick the 3 tag skills to start, but I am curious if the other stats are effected by it(some are 17, others are lower..)

All in all it seems like a pretty solid game with a nice rounded addition of features. I will have to check it on my pc when I have the cash to throw at it again. or I may just borrow his when he's sick of it.. in a few months.. lol.

If you dont attack the Legion they usually wont attack you, an option in case you are hated by them is to wear some legion armor when you spot a nearby patrol. I left an Assassin group over there, 10 in game hours later, they're still there lol They're stuck.

Anyways I think Assassins have Hunting Rifles, which are pretty deadly against you at earlier levels.

I've gotten Bug Squasher Rank 2, not just need to kill 50 more for rank 3.

If you take the Animal Friend perk, those lil geckos will be friendly towards you, as well as giant rats, coyotes, dogs, big horners, brahmin. I saw my first Fire Gecko, but it was hostile, so I dunno if Fire Geckos or Golden Geckos will be effected by it or not.

You'll also get the 'Well Rested' status when sleeping in your house in Novac. My character is Idolized there atm.

Finally have my caps built up to about 4000.

Dont get Bloody Mess until after you've done the Bounty Hunter quest, if the target's head is turned to mush you wont get the full price of the bounty. The Animal Friend Perk will help against Violet.

I'm hated by the Legion as well, VJ. They don't always fall for the armor trick, or at least for me they didn't. I was using Goodsprings Source for my water supply for awhile and the Legion Assasins attacked me there. I initially got slaughtered. Upon reload I knew they were coming so I quickly threw their armor on. Two of them hung back but the third on still ran up and told me that I was marked for death and then proceeded to attack. When I defended myself the others immediately joined in. I won that time but just by the skin of my teeth. Had to limp back to Doc Mitchell to get patched up.

Yeah some characters are especially preceptive and will see through your disguises, as will guard dogs of a given faction. Just as a note to anyone interested, there are three vaults in this game that are tied to a fairly big quest arc that I won't spoil. So if you run into a vault at some point you may want to thoroughly check it out, later down the road it may save you some time.

Also don't forget your team mates. You can have one robot and one follower with you at any time so you can use them as pack mules as well. Personally I have no house and if it isn't a weapon I use personally or something I think will be handy long run I sell it. Right now I got around 13k caps.

I've done that.

Olly, what I did I tossed on the armor right before the Assassin talked to me, then turned around and high tailed it outta there before they could attack. Now they're just stuck there waiting for me to return so they can attack. So I've just left them there so I dont get a new squad spawning on me.

I'm finding the Followers in NV to be far more Reliable than they were in 3, I currently have Veronica and Rex (Rex has a Fiend Dog's Brain, so he is twice as fast now).

Level 29. Been all over the Map except Caesar's lil' fort.

There is an Unmarked Quest at Camp Guardian. There's an injured NCR soldier in the caves near the Camp's Tent. If you heal him and tell him that the way UP is clear he will instead go down into its depths and get killed. If you clear the caves completely you wont be able to heal him. If you inqure about his gun you can get a fully repaired Service Rifle from him, if you talk him into joining you in clearing the caves, and he survives (this is easily done by killing all but 1, then going back to the Soldier and getting him to come along with you). Another reward, that you'll get for doing any of the above is the Dogtag Fist Scematics.

Actually thats not a hidden quest. If you go to the nearby NCR outpost one of the rangers there will tip you off that they have lost communications with camp guardian and they don't have the man power to investigate themselves. Then they give you a map marker for it and tell you they wouldn't mind if an outsider checked it out.

I am working on cleaning out the residents of Vault 3. It's pretty fun since I first fooled them to believe that I was there to resupply their drug stock (which I actually did to earn me some money, but that's not the point) so I could wander around freely and loot everything they had without penalty. I could even take their own drugs right in front of their eyes and then sell it back to them, lol. There were a couple of underwater rooms with some loot in them but I can't get them without drowning, I miss the water boy perk. After finding the NCR patrol in one of the rooms, I convinced him to help me kill the fiends. But when I first asked him to wait for a bit because I had to do something first, I never got the option to make him follow me anymore, I could only either tell him to go back to camp or fool him into trying to kill everyone alone (which yielded me bad karma so I did not do that). What an annoying bug, I wanted to kill the boss with him :( Then afterwards while killing fiends, the game froze. It always happens after 3-4 hours of playing...

Alas I spent my time exploring instead. I killed a Legenardy Cazador, and a Legenardy Deathclaw. Also got Abomidable up to Rank 3, and got a full suit of Remnant power armor. Trying to figure out if I want EDE to get a better weapon or have better armor.

How much armor does he gain? I've found that pretty much all of your companions are glass cannons, so unless it's a significant boost to his armor, I'd probably go with the better weapon.

I can't give you a number but I rarely see him go down these days and he has easily outlasted other companions with that armor upgrade. I even saw him out last fully power armored Veronica in a fight with Cazadors. Deathclaws still can make short work of him though, the adult ones anyway.

Jack with all that crap you are only going to be taking 1 rad a second. That is as good as it gets. No matter what you do you will always take at least one in every area of vault 34 so may as well go to the place now. You aren't going to find anything in there either to be honest you are ridiculously over geared for it so outside of quests you can skip it if you want.

You have to clear an area of about 16 Deathclaws to get these, its across the shore from Techicap Mine. There's a Mother and an Alpha Male mixed in with them. Its an open area in the cliffs.

I am the same Olethros. I have been mostly sucking the crack rock of fable 3 for the last week and will be back on new vegas soon but on my last play I was at 32 hours level 22 and still had not set one step into vegas.

Kark or anyone, is Fable 3 any good? The difficulty level of the second was so weak i found it unplayable. Please tell me you can die in this one. Also just bought Fallout NV, tis good but the main story isn't a scratch on 3 got to NV and was dissapointed :very_sad: seems like this is all about the side quests. Does anyone know where i can purchase a permanent residence?

Actually combat is better if you ask me. It is actually harder than Fable 2 but you can't die no, however you actually have to be awake while playing or you will get knocked unconscious quite often. If you liked Fable 2 I would say it is a must play, but if you hated Fable 2 or were only "meh" on it well... Give it a rent and see what you think. It does improve on Fable 2 but it also follows the same basic structure and does manage to do a couple things worse like the Dog and a conspicuous absence of pub games.

There are too many perks I don't really need, so tag was useful for me to get my speech higher. The points you get is the equivalent of a new level, so it doesn't feel like a waste.

After recruiting that guitar guy for Tommy Torino at the tops, I crouched in front of him on a table in a room filled with people and slayed him with my axe. No one noticed, and I got to walk away with his awesome revolver which complements my cowboy perk perfectly. Now I need to find some poor ranger to kill so I can get his armor.

I'm not awfully nice, despite having maximum good karma and having most of the good factions either accept or like me.

Need to get Barter to 70 for the Pack Rat perk. It'll help for decreasing the weight of ammo (all items 2lbs or less would then be half the weight).

If I recall, Tag works the same way that it does in Fallout 3, adding 15 Skill Points to an untagged skill.

But the next one I get will be Toughness, which adds +3DT, it has two levels.

Perks I'm planning on getting:

Bloody Mess (for the +5% DMG)

Purifier (+50% DMG against Deathclaws, Centaurs, SuperMutants, Ghouls, and Spore Creatures, with Melee/Unarmed weapons), stacks with Abominable.

Piercing Strike (All unarmed and melee attacks negate 15 points of DT. )

Strong Back (Carry 50lbs more crap)

Intense Training (Increase Endurance by 1, the higher this is the more implants you can get; the END Implant doesnt count; Getting it raised to 8 will let me get 3 more Implants, I've gotten 5 already).

Animal Friend (Obvious Reasons, you can just walk up to Animals and kill them, plus you dont have to worry about Golden Geckos Poisoning you or tacking on 14 points of Rads with each bite)

I'm at a toss up between these (I can only choose two from the 4 below):

Super Slam : All melee (except thrown) and unarmed attacks have a chance of knocking your target down.

Unstoppable Force : You do additional damage through enemy blocks with melee and unarmed attacks. (Could be useful when you are disarmed when entering places, like the Ultra Lux).

Ninja : +15%( 15 luck skill) critical chance with melee and unarmed weapons, +25% damage with melee/unarmed sneak attack criticals. (I'm not sure if I'll be able to get this, since you need Melee and Sneak to be at 80 points).

I was thinking of Getting Grim Reaper's sprint as well, even though you only get 20ap back instead of the full amount like in Fallout 3.

Hardcore doesn't do anything to the difficulty.

I spent last night grinding at the casinos. Basically picking the same number over and over until I hit the jackpot. A luck implant and the naughty nightwear helped too. My caps rised from 4000 to 40 000, so I guess I won't have any economical problems now and I managed to get banned from a couple of the casinos. I also got idolized at the strip after ridding the omerthas.

I also want to wear the NCR Ranger armor (the one on the cover), but I hate that I go from accepted to neutral on the NCR faction status. Does it matter at all, or should I not wear it for some reason? Could I somehow raise that suit's faction status?

Dead Money:
Welcome to the Sierra Madre Casino! The casino’s mythical contents are lusted after by desperate wasteland scavengers, who tell stories of intact treasure of the old world buried deep within its vault. Lured here by a mysterious radio signal advertising the long-awaited grand opening of the casino, you are thrown into a high stakes game where you’ll have to work with three other lost souls if you want to survive.

Key Features:
* Take part in a suspenseful post-apocalyptic casino heist in which you’ll need to work with three companions, each of whom has their own motivation for helping you.
* Add hours of extended gameplay where you’ll encounter the mysterious Ghost People, pre-war death traps and the holographic security system of the Sierra Madre.
* Navigate your way through a challenging new storyline, with even tougher choices.
* New perks, achievements, and a raised level cap to 35!

Personally shouldn't it be raised to Lv36? since.. you can only choose a perk every 2 levels.

Yeah, but Fiend armor is faction karma free. If you sell stronger armor to the Merchant in Novac he'll usually equip it. I think on my Hardcore file he's wearing NCR armor with a Legion Daelus hemlet.

Two MP's in the 2nd part of the Vegas Strip went hostile on me while all the other NCR soldiers were friendly one day, just out of the blue.. At first Veronica killed them, and I saw this Infamy Gained msg show up, then I loaded a save from minutes earlier to see what it was about, and they just went nuts, unprovoked.

Sometimes if you go into the General Store in Nipton, the crippled npc will be wearing diff. powder ganger outfits.

If they raise the Level cap by 5 levels with each DLC that might actually turn out to be pretty good. There were 5 for Fallout 3, so if NV got 5dlc as well, with 5Lvs added to the cap, you could go up to 55, unless the last DLC added 10lvs, making it 60.

DLC is nice and all.. but I think they should really be focusing on a patch for the glitches, the aiming glitch can be quite annoying if you are trying to snipe something. And I havent touched the space suit due to rumors about it causng the save file corruption glitch on the 360.

If you think thats bad Olethros a couple nights ago after 50 hours and hitting level 27 I finally decided to go to the strip. I go in, Victor takes over a securitron and greets me telling me to go see Mr. House. Why is Victor outside of himself though? He was fine last time I saw him and I have never attacked him in any form. I go to the Lucky 38 and right in front of the doors Victor's body is just sitting there, i should also mention I heard no gun shots or explosions when I zoned in. He was just plain dead for no reason.

Whatever. I go in the Lucky 38 to meet Mr. House. As soon as I step in the door every securitron in the place unloads on me. I didn't have my weapons drawn and this is literally the first thing I did after entering the strip. I have no choice but to fight them and Mr. House when I get to his terminal will not talk to me no matter what.

I reload multiple times, try all sorts of crap, nada. No matter what I did (and I reloaded saves from before I ever even entered the strip) the result was the same. Dead Victor in front of casino, mobs unload on me, House will not respond. So basically due to some BS glitch an entire ending option was cut off for my character.

I don't have a save that goes so far back to the last time I saw him alive. When I enter the strip he is already dead and when he talks to me he does it through a securitron he takes over. His body is literally just laying there face down right in front of the casino, fully in tact too.

Victor is no longer in Goodsprings in my game, he literally hoofed it from area to area. Every time I found him "anew" he was always called "Victor", at the Strip he was labeled as a "Securitron MkI". The body in front of the Lucky 38 does not say like Securitron, if you target it for looting it is identified as "Victor".

I am going ahead and taking over for myself now. If the game wants to play rough I can to. Of course I get great bug number 2. Big Sal of the Omerta's does not exist in my game. He is nowhere to be found. I looked up where he is at all times of the day in a strategy guide, he is in none of the places indicated and never shows up at them no matter how long I wait. This sucks because after dealing with the Omerta's for about 10 minutes I realized the kill em all and let god sort it out approach was best for them. Sadly due to this bug it is impossible to "wipe out" the Omerta's. Of course all their other members are dead now though. I guess this is sort of nice that I choose this approach too because with Big Sal not existing in my world I sure as H couldn't have done the quest line.

Honestly I was rating this game like an 8.5 until I went to the Strip and started running into a weird game crushing bug every 5 minutes. Now it is more like a 7.

Weird 'cause I was going to say almost the exact same thing. Yesterday was not a good day for my game. I can no longer complete the Red Lucy at the Thorn quest because she won't talk while there is a fight occuring but the two deathclaws are just staring at each other, have turned yellow (instead of red) and refuse to do anything. Which essentially means the fight will never end and Red Lucy will never again speak to me. I also checked out the train tunnel outside Nellis where a room off the corridor consitently dropped me through the floor and deposited me back to the beginning of the tunnel over and over again. My ED-E has gone psycho and attacks every single NPC we encouter so I had to cut him loose. I loved his extended sensors, too, so it really pisses me off. I'd suggest telling EDE to just stay in an empty room. After I did his upgrade he wont follow me anymore. I was leaving Primm got down the Station between Primm and The Outpost turned around and he was gone. Where had he gone? Back to the Nash's House. So I just had him 'stay put', so I could keep the Enhanced Sensors perk.

I've noticed Followers dont always follow your orders, you set them Ranged, and Passive, but they still run up to enemies and start shooting. Boone would get in front of me while in sneak mode so I wouldnt be able to snipe anything.

The Nellis Train Tunnel glitch has been called the Nellis Black Hole. You're likely not supposed to be able to go through there to get into Nellis.

Also, to get into Abandoned BoS Bunker, you have to delete your update data, it contains a skill book. Otherwise, it is completely unobtainable. For some reason the update locked the location, leaving you no way of unlocking it w/o deletion of the FNV update.

I liked Veronica because she was exceptional at tying people up in melee and after I boosted her defense in a quest result she took serious punishment, sadly she does block shots like a mofo though. Cass I will probably pick up again eventually. She isn't particulary BA but she doesn't get in the line of fire normally and can do decent damage from range. My Deathclaw killing Method for upclose (works well for Dead Wind Cave), is Phycho, Med-X, Slasher, a Light Machinegun, Veronica with the Pushy power fist, & her wearing power armor. The Pushy usually knocks enemies down. While the Light MG is powerful, fast, and holds a 60round clip. If you're going after the Legendary Deathclaw, be sure to hot key some stimpacks, and do not attempt this while in Hardcore mode (since stimpacks do not work well in HCMode).

Another glitch I'm finding annoying is after you kill an enemy and they fall trough the ground, making it impossible to loot them.

Released December 9, 2010. Now companions are shown on the local map. (My guess is, this is when you 'lose' track of where they are).

I'm hoping that wasnt the only thing they 'fixed'.

No kidding. Supposedly the PC and Xbox patches are going to be soon as well.

New Vegas is not a direct sequel to Fallout Though the game offers a similar role-playing experience to Fallout , no characters from Fallout appear. However, the game marks the return of many elements found in previous Fallout titles, including Marcus, a super-mutant from Fallout , again voiced by Michael Dorn.
