How’s it going Atlus, for my 300 post, I decided to do something a little different for the New Year, even though it's now February...
Some may know me as a Persona user and all around Robot fan. I've haven’t been on the forums in some time and I've been into something that took a lot of my time, aside from my games. That something is known as Tokusatsu shows.
Tokusatsu, or Japanese Live action is something that's been around for many years. Some may know it in the likes of Godzilla or Ultraman, while many know and grew up with it from the American adaptation known as Power Rangers.
There have been others lesser known adapts such as Big Bad Beetle Borg’s, VR Troopers, Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad and Masked Rider. The last one is where I began to be interested in this. Some might remember masked Rider as the show that showed up around the time of the third season of power rangers, they even met in a two part episode. It was short lived and quickly forgotten so it makes sense for many that don't know about it.
Now the interesting is, the show called Masked Rider was an adapt but from an on going saga known as Kamen Rider. The series that as adapted to make Masked Rider in the US was known as Kamen Rider Black RX.
And for those who never had seen Masked Rider, take a look at this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-MoF-nVI4Y) I bet that some here who grew up with this might have seen one or two non-power ranger shows and wanted to know a bit more about them.
Now that you somewhat have an idea, I'll try to keep this short. After running across a livestream that was airing the original Kamen Rider shows, I found a new thing to love among many other things.
But what was also on the livestream also peak my interest even further. One of the most unique and Acton pack Tokusatsu shows I have ever seen was on the stream as well, It was known as GARO. Not only is it one of the most well done Tokusatsu shows, it has horror elements, non stop action and something that SRT fans might like, but more on that later.
With that and others, I fell in love with it as I used to back when I was growing up with Power Rangers. I also learned something on a man who gave his life to Sega. I'm sure the Atlus fateful know of a man named Segata Sanshiro, (and have you played your Sega Saturn?) a true hero to all things Sega. Well he has a much lager history aside from that, like being the very first Kamen Rider, Ichigo. Hiroshi Fujioka has done many action movies and shows that will take forever to list them all, but one of his early rolls is Kamen Rider no 1, Hongo Takeshi. And yes even in his younger days, he was and still is awesome.
Want to know what Mr. Segata is doing now, well I must show you another recent Tokusatsu that's also pretty cool. Tomica Hero Rescue Force is what a non power ranger’s show would be like in the US. He not only he is part of this series, but Segata fights evil and save lives once in the movie as R0 and later became the big commander who shows up every so often to give the heroes advice in the sequel, Rescue Fire.
The Rescue series has good action, comedy and high end CGI. And like GARO, for the SRT fans out there, Rescue Fire’s main opening song is from JAM Project. You can see that as well as others in the links below.
Now some may have notice in toy stores that they are releasing toys for the original power rangers. Turns out that they might have stopped making adaptations to it and are re airing the 90s show with new effects to it. If you wanted to know what the next adapt would have been well, the link below shows you that the Super Sentai show Shinkenger would have been next, Samurai Rangers if you will.
And for Big Bad Beetle Borg’s, VR Troopers, Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad, the first two are from a the Metal Heroes series and the last one is from Gridman, a cyber Ultraman, have a vid here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BLEpbGbsKA)
And speaking of Ultraman, even though we stop seeing it in the US with Utltaman Tiga, it is still going strong with a very awesome movie that was recently released in Japan. Because we have almost every Godzilla movie here in the states, I would love to see Ultraman make a comeback with this new movie, Ultra Galaxy Legend.
Well, that's pretty much what I have been checking out as of late. I would like to know what the good atlus faithful think, have they seen some of this as well or if what I have shown might have interest some here as well. If you need to know where to find some of this then let me know. If you want to start off with Tokusatus then I suggest the likes of GARO.
Well hope that this gave you some insight on something that I've been getting into and maybe I'll find many here who like it as well and talk about they're favorite shows.
Enjoy the world of toku my dear Atlus fateful.
