WANDER NO MORE; ATLUS RELEASES SHIREN THE WANDERER VIDEO WALKTHROUGH

Let us show you the path...

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- JANUARY 27, 2010 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today released a video walkthrough of Shiren the Wanderer™, the upcoming Wii™ entry in the long heralded Shiren series. The video, which runs nearly 5 minutes in length, introduces viewers to the game's backstory and main characters, its easy-to-use controls and interface, combat and navigation basics, and also gives a sampling of the game's distinct Japanese flavor.

"We spent days trying to compress the vastness and depth of the Shiren the Wanderer experience into a short video walkthrough," commented Crystal Murray, PR Specialist at Atlus. "There is just so much to cover with regards to the game's involved, turn-based roleplaying mechanics, the thrill of exploration, the strategy behind the combat, even the significant influence of Japanese mythology on the game's narrative and game world. That said, after a number of unfortunate accidents and minor injuries (sorry about your head, Scott!), we've finally done it! The Shiren the Wanderer video walkthrough is the perfect preview for gamers and series fans to get a feel for the satisfying RPG action the game promises to deliver this February."

Exceptionally reviewed by famed Japanese gaming publication Famitsu (9/9/8/9), this latest entry in the legendary series stands as one of the most addictive, highly rewarding, and endlessly replayable games available on Wii, not to mention the most accessible Shiren game yet.

Shiren the Wanderer for Wii is currently scheduled for release on February 9, 2010. Visit the official website at http://www.atlus.com/shiren.

About Shiren the Wanderer
For a thousand years, a princess has slept inside the Karakuri Mansion. When Shiren's former master bestows upon him the Karakuri key, he quickly finds himself entangled in a millennium-old mystery, wandering through past and present to unravel the story of the girl and vanquish an ancient, lurking evil...

Key Features
•Epic adventure in feudal Japan -- As the wandering samurai Shiren, you will explore a vision of historic Japan that is beautiful and vibrant. An epic story that begins 1000 years prior takes you through villages and dungeons and places you alongside figures straight out of Japanese mythology.

•Variable challenge -- A brand new easy mode lets even newcomers to the genre find a foothold while experienced players will find a more rigorous challenge in Normal mode. Post-game activities will test the most advanced gamer with additional quests, super dungeons, a tournament, and the "ultimate challenge"-the Millennium Dungeon, a pain-staking 1,000 floor dungeon crawl.

•Challenging depth and strategy -- Control your time in the dungeons down to the details. Choose direct control over your party members or take advantage of the excellent AI that lets you specify attitude and tendency. Power up equipment through the new Dragon Orb system, and imbue them with special abilities via more than 100 Seals. New Spells allow targeted casting of effects on enemies.

Shiren the Wanderer has been rated "T" for Teen with Alcohol Reference, Mild Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, and Mild Suggestive Themes by the ESRB.

Question: In Normal mode, is there an option to "inscribe" some of your equipped items, such that they won't be gone when you die?

Those who've played Nightmare of Druaga know what I mean.

Honestly I'm probably gonna go w/ Easy Mode, I like the fact that the game itself remains just as challenging. Given the supposedly more streamlined experience, I don't feel the need for such a hardcore roguelike rule. It's good that it's there as an option, though I can't see why it can't be changed mid-game!!!

I guess I've been spoiled by Chocobo's Dungeon, which is an excellent Wii game.

No there isn't. In Normal mode, everything from your irreplaceable blades to your lowly herbs are fair game for going out the window when you die.

Alright, I would have liked a compromise between Easy and Normal, but I'll just go for Easy. It's not gonna feel like cheating if the weapons are indeed highly customizable.

This can get tricky to be sure as when I played it I got through the majority of the game without a hitch, had some insanely buffed equipment, all the greatest support equipment I could ever want, cutting though bosses like nobody's business until I died...

In the later dungeons, even with an incredibly leveled character, you aren't going to get far with you bare fists so you'll need to do some major backtracking to build up your equipment all over again without the ability to re-fight any of the bosses for big xp and cash bonuses (cooly, once dead the bosses stay dead...well until you meet them again in the post story dungeons/tournaments).
