Even if the gameplay is so-so, I know I'll enjoy this game for the RPG references/homages already. The loading screens were one thing, but this?

That has got to be a poke at Ys, doesn't it?

I was thinking the same thing! I'm sure the gameplay will remain consistent to what we expect from traditional 8-bit Action RPG's. I fully expect The Legend of Zelda, but even if it isn't I can't help but be charmed by the presentation.

That was my first thought too! But now I'm wondering if ramming into foes is an actual game mechanic that doesn't work on enemies in that dungeon for some reason.
Square is dash according to the shot. Might have something to do with that.

It IS a game mechanic, we know this, but I'm certain it's also an homage (as is the entirety of the game), to a number of classic RPG's.

I think this would be a bit more enjoyable if it was more original because to be honest it looks to much like the Zelda games.

+1
It is supposed to pay homage to the oldschool zelda games of the nes-snes era.

I just think it could be a bit more original that's all. I think I might purchase it anyway.

I wasn't too sure about this game at first. The more I seen of it, the more I read about it, the more I started to like it. Now, I cannot wait to get it! There will even be trophies for kicking @$$ too...

I dont know, I like the original zelda's and a link to the past better than the current incarnation of the series by quite a bit so yeah I will probably be down for this game. I just hope they do some dlc in this one case for new levels what have you later down the road.

I applaud who ever came up with this idea. It's ####ing genius. All the sarcasm, tributes and even the music. Oh man oh man oh man. Thanks for this awesome game.

I just wanted to post and Thank Atlus and From software for bringing us this game. Being a gamer that grew up on the original titles not many games brings back that nostalgic feeling, sadly not even the originals sometimes, but 3ddgh has been a blast so far and I am less than 5 hours into my first play through. I hope that the sales can provide a future for more titles like these! Great job to all who had a part in making this game.

Totally agree with this. The Zelda-style play and Dragon Quest-like music really move me. At first it felt like I was playing the game with the cheats on- until I was smacked by a baddie. =)
Can't wait to try Spelunker mode. This game is gonna rock!

Anyone else notice that in Dragon Warrior III, you also have to go collect 6 orbs?
