I know it's not even an Atlus' name, but I think games companies can buy names from others, so I think that a Breath of Fire would be reborn greatly, if done by Atlus, since the big 'fail' of BoF V - DQ and I heard that Capcom decided to finish off their RPGs since they lack of staff or so.
So, they could either make a Remake or a new one. I'd love if it'd be on ps2, but I don't mind the console, just want the magic back...
PS: Sorry if I'm just talking nonsense, it's just my opinion :p

Dragon Quarter was probably the best Breath of Fire game.

Dammit, I thought this was confirmation that there was a BoF6 coming out. Way to get my hopes up, jerk.
Anyways, while at Atlus-developed BoF game would be absolutely amazing, it's out of Atlus USA's hands since they don't develop games, just translate.
Anyways, the future of the BoF series is in the hands of Camelot, last I heard. Capcom is content to shelve the series, but there was an interview with Camelot back before they started working on Golden Sun DS that they were highly interested in working on a DS iteration of Breath of Fire if Capcom would let them have the liscence. But in all honesty, I'd be happy if Capcom would freaking put a BoF character in one of their crossover games, or even just acknowledge that the games even existed. A lot of the BoF characters are perfectly suited to a fighting game, like Katt, Rand, Rei, Scias, or Linn.

Not only is Breath of Fire solidly a Capcom property, the first rule of the sticked thread in this forum is "1) Atlus, USA doesn't make games. We localize them. Don't ask for a new version of something, because by and large we don't get to make design decisions."
