Atlus announces Persona 3 FES for PS2

Revisit the Dark Hour this April 22.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — FEBRUARY 25, 2008 — Atlus U.S.A., Inc., the vanguard of role-playing games, today announced Persona 3 FES for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the highly-anticipated definitive cut of 2007’s RPG of the Year, Persona 3. With two games on one disc–a brand new chapter featuring 30+ hours of gameplay and an enhanced version of the original game loaded with new content and features–Persona 3 FES is the comprehensive version of one of the most acclaimed RPGs of 2007.

Persona 3 FES is a stand-alone product and does not require the original Persona 3 to play. However, players with save files from the original game will be able to transfer some of their saved data, such as their Persona compendium, to be used in the enhanced main story. Sayck, I know you won't believe me, but you should play FES. The new chapter has none of the dating sim/social link stuff you hate, it defaults to Hard Mode, and you don't get the Compendium, so the only Personas you have are whatever you can fuse or find in battle. It's probably the hardest SMT on PS2.

Atlus, I'm so happy you decided to release the append disc here-- it really never ceases to amaze me how much joy I get from gaming thanks to you guys-- As shocked as I am about the full game coming with the additional content on a single disc, I think it can only be good for the company since many people who missed the original will now have the chance to play it. Box art is meh and it's kinda odd calling the character Aigis (though I don't know the Japanese pronunciation or if there's any meaning behind the name beyond my assumption that it's meant to be Aegis) but I prefer the new episode names a lot more. Can't argue with the price, either. TBH, even if I ended up getting the original Persona 3, I could stomach $30 (Glad I probably won't have to buy the original, mind you).

So yeah, positives vastly outweigh the minor nitpicks.

Aigis is the original root Greek word. Aegis is the Latin version of it.

If you look on the official Japanese sight, what is shown in the game, and what they named EPISODE AEGIS, then no.
If you factor in the Japanese gobble up English loanwords like we gobble up their nonsense it looks even more unlikely that they intended her name to be truly Greek.
Aegis also appears in Egyptian mythology too according to my handy "google this stuff up" expert opinion.
Whatever, it's done, it still retains its meaning.
Just it's ironic that a localization for an English audience gets the Greek translation instead of the English one.

I don't know when I'll actually get around to replaying "The Journey" again though, I'm a lazy ass when it comes to getting the most out of my RPGs.

Sure, I'll play half of the sidequests and plan to finish the rest but then half way through, suddenly it'll become a sprint to the finish line.

Quite right. Who really cares? She was pretty cool though. She was my favourite. She was also one of the deeper characters. After she came back from being repaired, and acquired feelings, she became a much more dynamic character. However, she wasn't as cool in battle, in my opinion. In terms of coolness, I liked her before her transformation. "Enemy anhilated." I wonder if I could find that picture of her shooting bullets out of her fingers on google, now that FES is going to come out. I noticed that it is the banner for FES. I couldn't find it when I looked up Persona 3 pictures, and I wanted that picture so bad. Sure, I can look at it in the art book, but it would make a great desktop. I had to settle for an alright picture of Yukari, Mitsuru and Aigis, with a bit of that awesome picture in the background.

Awesome and I just sold my original copy of Persona 3 right before this got announced. Now all the titles are much lower in value according to how used copies are priced now.

Anyway I can't wait for this. I really want to try out the "hard" mode since the challenge of the game didn't do justice for the games battle system.

Keep the artbook and soundtrack and sell the game. I hear you can still get 30-40 bucks for it on Amazon Marketplace - that's enough to pay for your copy of FES.

Yes keep the original copy that started it all I own two of them but use one and kept the other in mint condition I plan to do the same wih FES since it will also become rare eventually.

I'm incredibly excited that FES will be released in English. I must say this move actually increases my respect in Atlus overall.
I mean, you don't see SquareEnix releasing any "International" games outside of Japan.
