I'll admit I'm an irresponsible idiot right now. I got caught up in trying to finish something in Demon's Souls, didn't monitor my time, and now I'm stuck with quite a dilemma. This doesn't usually happen, but I guess this just proves how Demon's Soulos is... or how irresponsible I am.

Okay, so I'm a Junoir in High School. Junoir in High School. For Consumer Management, I have a $32,553 yearly income (for the class assignment). That's 2712.75 dollars a month. How much would the following utilities be:

Gas
Electricity
Water/Sewer
Cable
Phone/cell-phone
Internet

The sheet says to ask your parents or siblings. I don't want to because they will just yell at me for putting it off. I am not sure where else I am supposed to figure it out, and I don't want my answers to not look plausible. The rent is 550 dollars a month. So, uh, please help! I will give you stuff in Demon's Souls if you do.

That depends on the company providing these utilities and on the size of the apartment and so on
so we can't really answer your question

1. I already finished DS awhile ago
2. I can't really help with that but maybe someone else would be able to help with that information

There may also be some regional variation; I don't know if utilities vary as much depending on your location as rent would, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

And some apartments will cover one or more utilities as part of the rent; for example, my apartment comes with water covered and tacks on a maybe $15 a month charge for gas, since that's the average use for residents in our complex. Also depends how many people you have using them (four people and their daily showers are going to be a lot worse than only one), and some things might run off gas or electric depending on your place...

Cable, phone, and internet will often be merged -- I just get a bundle from the local communications company that covers all three (though my cell phone is separate from all that).

It's...a lot of variables!

How about it's an average person with a $32,553 annual income. Only one person lives in the apartment. I just need a rough estimate... If she marks me off, then I will just explain the stuff you said. I just don't want to be way off.

Like someone mentioned before, there are waaay too many regional variables too ask this on a message board. Even the income could be different for the same position depending on region.

Well the last three can be bundled through most major providers for around a hundred bucks a month, provided you don't need every premium channel/infinite text messages/the fastest possible speed.

Gas is going to vary wildly depending on where you live; an average gas bill for, say, Florida is going to stay pretty consistent (and low), while one in a New England state is going to be low in the summer and really high in the winter. Electricity works similarly. Water and sewer should range somewhere between $20 and $50, depending on how often you shower and, again, where you live.

Where do you live?

Of course, you may have a place that's all electric, or maybe you only use gas for heat (like I do.) In the summer, my gas bill is 10 bucks, but last month it was 124. Of course, electricity goes down a bit, since I'm not using the A/C in the winter. I do have a heat pump for heating and cooling though, so depending on how cold it is, that kicks on instead of the gas heater.

Water/Sewer can go from 25-50 a month or more, depending on where you live, how many there, and so on. If you take 5 minute showers, you will use a lot less than someone who fills the tub, or takes a 20 minute shower, obviously.

Electricity would probably be at least 100 a month, again depending on several factors.

I'd say at least 300 total for the first three, which are needed. The next ones are more luxuries than requirements. I have no cable or cell phone, and I pay $20 a month for internet (for the slowest cable modem speed.) A typical local phone bill would probably be 25-35 a month, then add however much for long distance.

Rent's $550 a month where you live? Sheesh.

Anyway, if you want to impress your teacher, say that you took this survey to people on the internet, based on the places you thought you were going to go to college. Therefore, this would be a more accurate guide for your future life! Anyway, in Orange County, CA, the breakdown would be like this:

Rent: $700
Electricity: (as a gamer, technophile) $110
Gas: $15
Water/Trash: Covered by every apartment community I've ever stayed in as part of rent. (They're all owned by one company down here.)
Cable/Internet: $120
Cell-Phone: $60

$1,005 per month for rent and utils. This is why you typically split an apartment.

Yeah, this is a bit too broad. This varies from state to lifestyle to time spent at home and factors like taxes among others. What you pay for gas to put into your car also varies based on need and frequency of use.

Also, its "junior."

I would look for ways to trim corners if you can or combine services. With Verizon FiOS - if they bless your region with their presence - you could roll into a bundle for cell phone and internet, similar to how AT&T does it with phone, cell phone and DSL.

Also, if you get in this kind of trouble just with cash and checks, when the credit companies come around making offers - turn them away. You will be doing yourself no favors by owning a credit card. They just want to bait and ruin you anyway. Get one when you can manage your time and money better.

Some companies also show leniency on payments and service so long as you make an agreement to pay by a certain date that's not too far off. If you're that behind, call them and make the arrangements. It will buy you some time and let you keep your service a while longer.

Though its really cell and phone companies that are gonna go right after you, they're rabid little guys. I think they get trained by Hitler or something.

This.

No matter how many free t-shirts they offer you. Hell, I even got scammed WORKING for one of them damn people. (Although, I suppose it was legit payback. I advised people to write down fake info.)

I very much appreciate everyone giving me helpful feedback and not calling me an irresponsible, ignorant moron, but this assignment was due today at 7:40 A.M. :P Thanks again for the help, but I turned it in already. :D

I like my credit card. I use it strictly for work-related purchases (which I get reimbursed for) and it has a point-based reward system. So essentially my employer is giving me Amazon gift certificates once a year.

I would love if I could make that much money, but computer programmers don't make that much in my area. I can't speak for your costs because I'm in very northern Michigan, but here is my cost breakdown:

2-bedroom apartment: $730 per month
Gas: (only used for heat) included
Electricity: $25 per month
Water: included
Cable + Phone + Internet: $145, but I called and told those douchebags to lower the price. Now it's $110.

Monthly expenses: ~$865 + Food.

My electric might be a bit lower than average. Our computers are Apples which are fairly energy efficient, and most of the light bulbs are Compact Fluorescent. I also don't have a PS3. ... and I only turn on the pinball machine when I have company.

^ Well thank god you don't own a PS3, eh? Otherwise your electricity bill would skyrocket into oblivion.

When I grow up and start living my own, I'm just going to complain to everyone to lower the cost. I may fail most of the time, but what's the worst thing they can do? I mean, even just making that additional 35 dollars a month that you made due to a single call really adds up.

Well the non-slim PS3s do use as much power as most home appliances, so it's certainly possible his energy bill could go up a significant amount (percentage wise, that is) if he had one.
