I know this board is reserved for game suggestions, but how about a genre suggestion.

I suggest and support Atlus USA to localize ANY SRPG this year. Be it 1 game or 1 million.

I don't care which one. I trust Atlus to make the right decision, so long as we can have at least one SRPG this year.

I vote no. I've seen so many SRPGs... either do turn based or something new.

I think that is an ignorant statement and let me explain why. Atlus localizes around 20-25 games a year. Out of that, I'm only asking for one. I don't think that is asking for too much.

Strategy RPGs to my knowledge are pretty much all turn-based, so I have no idea what you mean by that?

Do something new? As I mentioned previously, I don't care if it is an older SRPG or a newly made one, as long Atlus can localize at least one.

You've already said that you didn't care for either Yggdra Union or Knights in the Nightmare, both of which added new mechanics and tactics than the ol' "surround the enemy one at a time beatdown" grid maneuver.

That said...

I'm not sure what you're getting at with this, either. Do you mean the more standard JRPG party random battle system?

Decent Srpg's have been so few and far between that I have given up on the genre. I am sure between Atlus, Aksys, Xseed, Ignition and NISA there will be 30 + generic srpg's released this year.

I think he means he wants an RPG that requires you to physically turn around to do things? I guess like a full body RPG version of Yoshi Tilt n' Tumble? Does that even exist?

Anyway <3 SRPG's over here, but I like being surprised by weird games even more.

Atlus planning work on Natal-enabled games: confirmed!? :P

I think all of you have misunderstood my intentions of creating this thread. It has veered off to something else.

In response to Onion of Mystery, yes I didn't like those two games by Sting but that doesn't mean I didn't try them or wasn't pleased that you (Atlus USA) decided to localize them. I have played several bad SRPGs but I am still thankful that the respective localizers (including Atlus) decided to take a chance with them, and bring them over here. Some other SRPGs I tremendously enjoyed by Atlus included both Luminous Arc games, Stella Deus, Spectral Force 3, etc. Sure not every SRPG you MIGHT bring over will cater to SRPG fans, but we are grateful nonetheless that you took the chance to try.

In response to Flußkönig, its funny how many people think that the U.S. is flooded with SRPG games and that another flood of them are coming soon. That is certainly not the case, and as I mentioned above not all SRPGs that are brung over I like, but that doesn't mean companies should stop trying to bring them over here.

I don't want this to become a war and people bashing the genre or stating misconceptions, I was just hoping like-minded SRPG fans would like Atlus to continue localizing one or two SRPGs every year, if not more.

It essentially boils down to two things:

1) Developers making games that we want to localize.
2) Developers being willing to agree to let us localize and publish them at agreeable terms.

Then I hope those two ingredients come together for a SRPG game this year, which will add to your already diverse profile of games already announced and being released this year. :)

Suggesting genres seems to cover too much. For example, there are those who support the typical grid-style SRPG, but I'm sure almost everyone who likes SRPGs has SRPGs that they DON'T like or aren't looking forward to.

There are also people who care less about the genre and more about the story/art style/etc.

But I second the visual novel want. America needs those. ;-;

I agree. There are so many adventure visual novels out there that haven't been localized.

I really don't understand the appeal of visual novels. Games, please, not non-games.

If it has a good story then it's really enjoyable
Even for a guy that doesn't like to read books (me) I enjoy Umineko a lot

Yeah, I don't get the visual novel stuff either. Why not read a book? Or a comic book? Or a graphic novel?

While you can play an SRPG sort of without a computer/console, it's a lot of working moving little figures around, rolling dice, keeping track of hit points and such. Plus there aren't a lot of scenarios (Dark City Games published some a few years ago, dunno if they are still around).

In Umineko's case it wouldn't work
You need the crazy expressions, music and Ryukishi's descriptions which are great
and it's the same with many other visual novels and most of them contain multiple choices so you get a diffrent story (to what degree depends on the game)

It's for the story and artwork, of course. Pretty much the same reason you'd watch an anime. I know Higurashi also has interactivity, so it's not really a "non-game." Wouldn't kill the West to get a popular series or two of VNs.

AND WE ALSO NEED MORE DATING SIMS. xD ...I doubt Atlus would ever pick any up, but still.

It wouldn't kill the west, but no one here is going to buy overpriced software that may as well just be on an ebook reader instead. eBooks do happen to be popular here.

We play games for real interactivity and challenge, not just dialog branches. This sounds like stuff for people that don't play games.

Whole-genre requests aren't what the suggestion box is for. You're welcome to continue the SRPG or visual novel discussion elsewhere, though.
