View Full Version : Wii or 360?

I don't want to start a console war or anything I am asking it because my Birthday is getting closer and these are the only things I thought of asking for
I have a PS3 and a good gaming PC so I am only asking about good exclusive for both consoles (and not things that will get ported soon like NMH or ToV)
I will play almost any game which is good but:
No FPSs (I hate shooters)
No horror
No Zelda (I hated the few I tried)
and I think that's about it?

Wii has the better exclusives between the two based simply on the caliber of Nintendo's first-party titles.

It's very difficult to recommend a system or its games without stepping on a few toes, or crossing a few wires... but I'll try.
I prefer 360 titles over Wii ones myself, but that's because I enjoy a wider range of games than most. That being said, here's a few good system exclusives(excluding the ones you say you don't want) that I can think of.
360:
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Magna Carta 2
Forza Motorsport 3
Earth Defense Force 2019
(XBLA) Shadow Complex
(XBLA) Castle Crashers
Wii:
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Punch-Out!
Klonoa
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
(WiiWare) Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
(WiiWare) Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
If you have a PS3 and a gaming PC, then I say get the Wii. 360 is a great system, but the games you can't get on the PS3 that are on the 360 are very likely to be on the PC anyway.
I'm in the same situation as you (PS3 + PC), but I don't really see the need to own the Wii. I'm sure my tone will change when the new Zelda comes out, though.

Looking forward, Wii has NHM2 (which could get ported to 360/PS3), Arc Rise Fantasia, a new Metroid game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Shiren the Wanderer, a new Pheonix Wright game, and a new Wario War game.
The 360 has...actually, I can't think of anything that isn't immediately excluded by Hamel's qualifiers. That's not to say there isn't anything, but I just can't think of it off the top of my head.

Personally, I think you need to try broadening your pallate a bit before considering a new console to purchase. If what you have written off in your list is how you truely feel, its hard to recommend a 360 or a Wii, because you've already opted out of some of the best games they have to offer.
Might be even more helpful if you tell us what you like, instead of what you hate.

I mostly like
RPGs
Fighting games (though I don't like SSB-types and Blazeblu is better than TvC so the Wii is out and I have no reason to get BB for the 360)
Action/adventure (DMC, Batman:AA and so on)
Platformers (so that's a point for the Wii there)
and I think that about sums it up (I like RTS too but on my PC not on a console)

With your list of likes and dislikes, it would honestly be foolish to get a 360 over a Wii. The 360 gets very few (if any) exclusives for any of the genres listed above.

I have all 5 current systems (though I lack a gaming PC :/) and I like my 360 a lot more than my Wii.
for the 360 I have :
Dragon Age: Origins
Magna Carta 2
Lost Oddesy
Sacred 2
Tales of Vesperia
Fable 2
Mass Effect 1 (and soon 2. Unless your getting 'em on the PC)
Infinate Undiscovery
Kingdom Under Fire
The Last Remenent
Operation Darkness
Spectral Force 3
Star Ocean 4
Enchanted Arms
+ some xbox games; Knights of The Old Republic, Jade Empire, Fable.
for the Wii I have :
Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility
Harvest Moon Animal Parade
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Valhalla Knights : Eldar Saga (omg sucha bad game XD)
Fire Emblem
Tales of Symphonia: New.. world?
+ VC games; Orge.. something, a mana game, the mario rpg, and like 2 other titles. haven't played those yet. D:
+ some GC games; Fire Emblem and Tales of Symphonia.
..I only play/buy RPGs and the Wii has a lot less than the 360. So maybe thats why I like it more? I dunno. :/ I say go with a new 360 with a decent sized hard drive and install whatever game your currently playing onto it. Without the disc spinning your less likely to get RRoD. I haven't gotten one yet and I've had mine for about 14 months now. *knocks on wood*
But if you like older games, maybe a Wii would be a better choice. The VC does have quite a few older titles that you may have missed. And it doesn't require a memory card or hard drive really. I have plenty of "blocks" left even after downloading like 7 games. And 2010 will have several Wii RPGs that look nice.

Most RPGs for the 360 that you mentioned are already on the PC/PS3 or will get there soon

This is not true... several exclusive RPGs have already been mentioned in this thread (Magna Carta 2, Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, etc, not to mentiona domestic version of ToV for the PS3 hasn't even been annouced, and you can find the 360 version for $15-30), Dead or Alive 4 is still exclusive, and there are also the RARE platformers on the 360 and various other XBLA games.

I probably should have said "worthwhile exclusives." I've played all but one of the games you just mentioned (Magna Carta 2, so I won't comment in it), and ToV is, in my opinion, the only one good enough to make me consider recommending the 360 - and there's a pretty strong possibility the PS3 port will get brought over.
I could be entirely off-base, but DoA4 doesn't seem like it would be Hamel's cup of tea.
RARE lost their touch a long time ago, and frankly, as good as some of their old games are (though it should be pointed out that some of the best were shooters), they can't hold a candle to Nintendo's platformers.

Ditto on all accounts.

The 360 has the Wii beat when it comes to RPGs but the Wii almost completely obliterates the 360 when it comes to platformers (especially exclusive platformers). Next year does look better for Wii in terms of exclusives if you have both a PS3 and a gaming PC (and even hate shooters), so I guess that means it should be Wii? It's really unfortunate that MS gave up on Japan, I would've loved to play another Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey 2 on the 360.

So I guess it's the Wii then
Unless you guys have a better idea for a gift (it's getting hard to think of one)
Wii's a good choice. That or get a gift card to Amazon so you can spread the love.

And then the next Persona game was confirmed as a 360 exclusive.
If that happens, I will find and end you, Fatney.

If that happens I will just buy a 360 the year it comes out

^Because you jinxed it!
I myself have considered both these consoles. I'm partial to say Wii. I hear it has a lot of fun stuff on it. I've played a little of it and have been impressed so far.
If that happens, I will find and end you, Fatney.
Haha, why?
Cause I got my PS3 for all the exclusives, but in the back of my mind I bought it thinking, "Persona 5 is more than likely going to end up here."
So if what you say happens...oh man.

I chose Wii since I want Fragile (Dreams) and the new Shiren, and Sin & Punishment 2.
Neither of those I've mentioned are FPSs, Horror, nor a Zelda.

Ever thought about the PSP or the DS if you don't have one yet?

lucky you xD
If I were in your case, I would pick up a Wii (in my case I would pick up a 360 or even better a ps3, because I already have the other lol), It has really good games that are exclusive to it and the next year is shaping to be promising: Metroid: Other M, Fragile Dreams, Sakura Wars, Monado: Beggining of the world (I just hope that Nintendo doesn't give it the same treatment as Disaster or Another Code R), No More Heroes 2, Monster Hunter Tri, plus the older games
