Not sequels or prequels or re releases. I want to know how the community feels about actual spin off games. I personally don't mind them so long as they don't attempt to screw over a story that I've been pretty well versed in for a while (crisis core/advent children.) Besides that, I find them to be enjoyable ways to waste time especially if their games that revolve around puzzles/beat em ups for long hours of good old fashion wholesome fun.

Most spin offs make me want to put a bullet in my brain or a coma in my future. It's rare when they do it well. Torneko/Chocobo racing/dungeon is one of those exceptions I was pleased with. That and Persona. Or Digital Devil Saga. Then there are the FF stuff which gives me a headache.

I'm looking forward to the Ace Attorney spin-off. :) I usually don't enjoy spin-offs too much, but man, I've been anticipating that game for months.

Over the years, I've learned to ignore spin-offs and treat them like some random fan works if the said spin-off doesn't jive with how I view the original works and/or if it just doesn't have the quality that made the original works special.
This applies to just about everything, not just videogames. It also applies to sequels and prequels as well.
But that doesn't mean I automatically hate sequels/prequels/spin-offs. It just means that I won't lose any sleep over it, so to speak, if it fails to live up to the original's name.
Having said that, I'm generally opposed to videogame spin-offs that employ drastically different gameplay mechanics than the original. A game's story is important and all, but in the end, it's the gameplay that defines the game. So if I hear of a spin-off that deviates from the original's game style or genre, that raises an automatic red flag for me.

I barely care about Spin-offs but I like Dissidia maybe because its fan-service
game that you don’t need to take it seriously with solid gameplay and good
music .Also I am looking forward for FF Versus 13 more than 13 even thought
It is a spin-off But then I may be biased toward Yoko Shimamora :D

I like spin-offs because it allows producers to experiment with new things and break away from what is normally expected of the series. I really enjoy the Persona and the Crystal Chronicles games.
