Famitsu scored this 30/40, so i'll wait on the US review's before buying.

It seems to be a title geared more to us Westerners, so Japan might not be too crazy about it. I'm still interested in it, though.

I don't think the gameplay looks all that interesting. I'm not interested in getting it just for the story.

As a fan of the Crystal Chronicles games, believe me when I say that this game is going to be a huge disappointment and will jeopardize the future of the CC games to come.

Because the Crystal Chronicles games have always been critically acclaimed? I think you are overreacting a bit.

I agree. If anything, this will help boost the series' reputation.

Not really. Instead of having a high fantasy, dungeon crawler with a strong multiplayer focus and soundtracks inspired by world music, we're getting a mere clone of the teenage-fueled main FF games with bland music and weird minigames. If it succeeds, that's what the CC series will become - ####.

Of course, if it ends up being a good game, I'll be pleased to admit I was wrong - I'm hoping that I'm wrong, the CC series is one of my favorite SE properties - but this game looks terrible so far. I was really looking forward to this game.

Maybe I missed something here, but not all FF CC titles have fit into this mold.

That's true. My Life as a King is a city building simulation and My Life as a Dark Lord is a tower defense game - both are successful single-player CC games. In addition, both games revolved around the elements I bolded. In King, you sent bands of adventures out to dungeon crawl, and in Dark Lord you fought off dungeon crawlers. I'm not against the change in gameplay, as gimmicky as it seems, but I am disappointed with the art direction and SE's eschewing of multiplayer as the series focus. I can assume SE decided to cater the Crystal Bearers to fans of the main FF games, as the FFCC games admittedly aren't that popular.

That doesn't seemed to have worked, though: Crystal Bearers sold 35,000 in its first week, then dropped from the top 10. This says more about the Wii playerbase than the game, however.

As I said earlier, though, the game could be great. I was addicted to King and Dark Lord turned out well. At the same time, those games fit within the FFCC art direction. There is something positive I can say about the game: the story in the Crystal Bearers, at least, is guaranteed to be better than the other FFCC games (excluding, maybe, Ring of Fates - which supposedly has some plot elements repeated in CB).
