IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 19, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today unloaded a plethora of content for Shiren the Wanderer™, the upcoming critically-acclaimed RPG for Wii™. In addition to the game's final North American box art and the first batch of English screenshots, the publisher also updated the game's release date and introduced an official blog, offering fans an intricate look into the game, its exciting millenium-spanning narrative, and its addictive RPG mechanics.

The publisher also revealed that three online features from the Japanese version of the game would not be included in the North American release:

"Despite our best efforts, the North American version of Shiren will not include the Rescue, Versus, or Item Transfer online features," stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Atlus. "However, the downloadable dungeon content from the Japanese version will be included on the disc. Without these subfeatures, Shiren is still a fantastic RPG, one we hope all gamers can experience and enjoy. Still, we understand that the absence of these features may influence some fans' decision to purchase the game, which is why we are bringing this to their attention as soon as possible."

"The game was exceptionally reviewed by famed Japanese gaming publication Famitsu (9/9/8/9) and warmly received by the Japanese gaming community," continued Jabbari, "not because of any of its subfeatures, but for being the most accessible, best looking, most exciting entry in the series to date. We're confident North American gamers will agree."

Shiren the Wanderer is currently scheduled for release on February 9, 2010.

About Shiren the Wanderer
For a thousand years, a princess has slept inside the Karakuri Mansion. When Shiren's former master bestows upon him the Karakuri key, he quickly finds himself entangled in a millennium-old mystery, wandering through past and present to unravel the story of the girl and vanquish an ancient, lurking evil...

Key Features
Epic adventure in feudal Japan—As the wandering samurai Shiren, you will explore a vision of historic Japan that is beautiful and vibrant. An epic story that begins 1000 years prior takes you through villages and dungeons and places you alongside figures straight out of Japanese mythology.
Variable challenge—A brand new easy mode lets even newcomers to the genre find a foothold while experienced players will find a more rigorous challenge in Normal mode. Post-game activities will test the most advanced gamer with additional quests, super dungeons, a tournament, and the "ultimate challenge"-the Millennium Dungeon, a pain-staking 1,000 floor dungeon crawl.
Challenging depth and strategy—Control your time in the dungeons down to the details. Choose direct control over your party members or take advantage of the excellent AI that lets you specify attitude and tendency. Power up equipment through the new Dragon Orb system, and imbue them with special abilities via more than 100 Seals. New Spells allow targeted casting of effects on enemies.

Shiren the Wanderer has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Awesome box art. It's really cool of you to just say that it won't have the features. Most publishers wouldn't do that. :)

Would have been funnier if they had dressed it up like taking them out was a "great new" feature.

It's great that ATLUS atleast tells us certain systems aren't gonna be in the game(a certain company that will go nameless has stated on the game box, a system is in a game, when it Isn't, and even if it was a typo, there was no recall or any kind of an announcement, needless to say, that kind of BS leads to pissed off buyers), most if not all the other companies in the industry don't give a heads up if a port differs in what some may see as a bad way.

I don't know what the Rescue system was about, but if It's on the lv of the other 2 features, we're not missing much(if anything, It's more hard core this way. I imagine the item transfer system would make this game very easy to say the least, and Vs in this type of game is probally a meh feature anyway), the important thing is, we are getting the DLC Dungeon, so I'm happy.

Hm, now I'm really dying to play this game, this game seems to have an extremely advanced equipment customization system( omg it sounds earily simular to the godly Rognarok Onlime, a MMO's equipment system, just not as extensive of course, the most perfect equipment customizeable system ever made. However this game using seals instead of cards, probally means there won't be any limit on how many Seals can be used, but that makes sense in this type of game).

I love the fact It's gonna be based in a hystoric setting, and on Japanese Mythology as well.

I said this in the other topic, but hell yea I'm gonna give that 1,000 floor dungeon a crack(I still can't believe this game is gonna have a 1,000 floor dungeon, that's insanity in this type of game, whoever came up with that number is one demented developer).

Pretty cool box art. I'm not sure about the actual game though. I may get it, I may not. We'll see. Problem is I have Bioshock 2 coming on February 9th. >.<

I'm so extremely excited about this game! Thank you Atlus for bringing this gem over. As a person who owns the DS version, I don't think I will miss the rescue feature too much. I have only used it once while playing the game. When I die I am usually to anxious to try and tackle the dungeon again to wait around to be rescued.

I want to get this game for the Wii, but I am hearing it is being ported to the PSP with extras. A extra dungeon, rebalancing of the game, etc.

So I am not sure if I want to get it for the Wii or PSP. I prefer console over handheld, but I want the extras, too. Decisions, decisions.

Will the PSP release also be getting an English port?

I'm pretty stoked for this. I just got into roguelikes and have really been enjoying Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer even though it has been thoroughly tanning my ass. It's a shame about the online features not carrying over but the extra content sounds swank as does the easier difficulty (relatively speaking) curve. Ease the newbies like myself in with the main campaign, save the hardcore challenge for the post-game.

Hopefully Atlus will also pick up Shiren 2 for the DS.

So excited, when I discovered this for Super Famicom I was hooked. When I looked into the series further..I discovered there were more games, gameboy, dreamcast, PC, N64, and now DS and wii (among others if I've missed any)

It would be a dream come true to have all those other translated as well...but who knows.

This will be my next new game purchase for wii.

Also, what promotional materials are available for this game? If there are any demos, soundtracks, posters, ANYTHING, I'd love to know about it, please share.

Well darn. I had this game pre-ordered but I ended up having to cancel it. I'm literally living on paycheck to paycheck now until things get better. This year is going to suck for me because so many potentially good games are coming out and I have little to no extra money. What a way to start off the new decade huh? :D

Hopefully, I can find this game cheaper later, provided it doesn't go out of print. Oh well...happy gaming everyone.
