ATLUS LINKS TO LEGENDS PAST, ANNOUNCES 3D DOT GAME HEROES™
FOR PlayStation®3 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Hey, who put game cubes in my PS3® system?

http://www.atlus.com/res/3ddotgameheroes_promoscreen_600.png

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- NOVEMBER 17, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today revealed that it has licensed the rights to your childhood memories. Pixels rule again in the ultimate retro action-adventure game 3D Dot Game Heroes™ for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, slated to land in North America on May 11, 2010.

"The 8- and 16-bit classics many gamers cut their teeth on are magical, down to their blocky sprites and elegantly simple gameplay," mused Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, while twirling his rattail and wearing a poorly coordinated denim-on-denim outfit. "3D Dot Game Heroes captures all of that legendary charm and more, bringing classic visuals, familar sounds, and a grand sense of exploration and discovery into stunning next-gen realization, all the while giving countless winks and nudges to the fans those iconic games mean the most to. This is pure action-adventure gaming at its finest, a true love-letter to a time-honored genre," he added while putting baseball cards in the spokes of his 10-speed.

Dripping with old school charm, classic gaming pizzazz, and pure retro sexy, 3D Dot Game Heroes is the ultimate homage to the industry's golden era.

3D Dot Game Heroes is scheduled to release on May 11, 2010 with an MSRP of $39.99.

For more information, visit the game's official website: http://www.3DDotGameHeroes.com

About 3D Dot Game Heroes
A long, long time ago, the Dark King Onyx brought an age of darkness upon Dotnia Kingdom. Only by the bravery of a hero with a legendary sword was Onyx sealed in an orb, restoring peace to the world. But Fuelle, a powerful Dark Bishop, has stolen the orb, and with it, peace. Dotnia requires a hero once more! Can you live up to the legend?

Key Features

Ultimate retro love letter -- Seamlessly fusing new and old, the golden era of gaming is felt in every detail of this lovingly-crafted adventure. Eye-popping visuals capture the nostalgic charm of pixel graphics in cutting edge 3D. Simple, but deep action-adventure gameplay is a throwback to the 8-bit era. Veterans will find references and jokes that pay homage to the great games of yore.
Awe and adventure live again -- Embark on the next generation of classic exploration and discovery in a grand story-based quest. A hero sets out to gain the power of the six sages and the six orbs that protected the kingdom of Dotnia, which now stands on the verge of destruction.
Customize your hero -- When pixels are your building blocks, the possibilities are unlimited. Freely edit the look of your character, or design one completely from scratch, and then trade designs with friends via a compatible USB storage device. Your hero's blade is also upgradeable, letting you add length and width to create a sword that fills the whole screen!

3D Dot Game Heroes has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Anyway, could you guys and gals please ask the producers to add a top-down perspective? From the videos that I have seen, the camera would always end up behind a house or a tree or some other element from the scenery. Plus, how can you have a retro game with an over the shoulder view?

Ha...finally. I was getting antsy after teasing the REQUESTS thread. I knew about this about a month ago and REALLY, REALLY wanted to say who...but knew the ATLUS gods would likely lay down the banhammer in denial of my words. Glad I was patient enough to wait it out. Now I can talk with everyone else who has been waiting for this announcement.

ATLUS...you do love your fans don't you? May I suggest doing a similar Deluxe Edition to Demon's Souls? That would look mighty fine in my collection...I mean, Demon's Souls looks so grand next to everything else, perhaps start a new tradition with all of your FROM Software acquisitions? Beautiful embossed boxes, exclusive strategy guide...an art book and CD would be lovely too!

Hm, heard about this game a while ago. Looks interesting/unique, but don't really know much about it (then again, I had heard nothing of Demon's Souls until you guys announced it...and I love it). If this game is more to appeal to those who played in the 8 and/or 16-bit era, well...that's definitely not me. I'll still be keeping my eye on this, because it is Atlus. Your acquisitions/games have rarely disappointed.

I don't really think what Atlus USA is doing says anything for what Atlus Japan is doing. Though I suppose we can always hope for it.

And yeah, I'm going to be disappointed if this game isn't filled with old videogame references.

Holy crap! This is awesome! Why did I think this was a PSP game? A PS3 game for $40 at launch? I am buying this, hands down! Too bad it's going to be a long and gruesome wait.

Those loading screens alone sold it for me. Anything that makes obvious references to games of old, I buy...period! Not to mention the trailer is a clear Zelda homage (notice how I didn't say rip-off!) which fills me with happiness.

Also, drat. Another game that I have to figure out how to get into my gold box.

The game looks fantastic, but I'm honestly not completely sure you've picked the right console for this.
Do not get me wrong: The PS3 is a fantastic console. But the retro crowd is undeniably more likely to own a Wii (due to the Virtual Console and the older franchises).

So maybe you want to think things over.

Well, we didn't develop the original game, so it's out of our hands. If From releases a 360 or Wii port, maybe we'll consider those, but it's up to them, not us.

HD is not important, most certainly not to retro gamers and most certainly not to a game like this.
A 360 port would not be a bad idea, though.

first of all this will probably and most likely be my favorite game on ps3. but when looking at screenshots of the game i noticed something that caught my attention.at the bottom right corner of the screen is hilighted buttons

l1 map r1 guard triangle menu and square dash. i dont know if its going to be part of the final product or any reason but what are the chances of atlus putting a toggle on or off setting to hide that box? im not saying it in a complaining way but why would we need it after the first 5 minutes of playing and haaving there for the rest of the game, kinda like in metal gear solid four like how snake got near a wall and a mini context sensitive snake appeared indicating to press the triangle button. me and my friends were talking about this saying how it kind of takes you away from the game just a bit and how ( i wouldnt say issue) this thing is not talked about between gamers and if developers take into consideration but a on off setting. :very_sad: not that i would throw a fit if it stayed there permantly but id just say to myself why

So excited for this game.

The only thing that bugs me about the design, is the abundance of giant screen-engulfing swords. I kind of like the small, Zelda-style swords. Having a giant sword would be kind of funny, if only for a small amount of time (perhaps during a certain quest). But from the look of things, it seems as if giant swords is the name of the game.

I wonder if they are optional? I'd like to play this game like it's the 1980s again. Giant swords seem like they'd make the game too easy. :)

That seems to be a common misconception people are having: If my sword is so big, I'll NEVER get hit!

Remember that you don't have a full-length sword at any time but when you are at full power, and if you're so confident that you're going to be at full power for the entire game, well...

Then Spelunker mode will take care of that for you. One hit, and it's game over.

Ah, thanks for the info.

So the giant sword is like the laser sword in The Legend of Zelda? I guess that makes more sense.

This optional 'one-hit-you-die' mode sounds a little too insane. :P

"I'm pretty meh on anything wii these days though."

Yeah, we don't all like high quality platformers/adventure games/RPGs/music games/sports games/casual games and the best retro capacities on the market.

Nothing about Wii or it's games are high quality, what are you talking about?

Lack of High Definition doesn't mean absence of high quality. The converse is just as true.

this game is gorgeous.

the suns reflection in the water makes me squint my eyes.

sooo happy this got a local release as (unfortunately) im old enough to get all the old-school references.

If you havent got this game yet, and you like RPG's , go get it,
NOW !
