is there a way to still fight the king?

i was going through 1-3 and didnt realize the guy asking for help was ostrava. killed the boss, then went back to the stage to free the witch. now i read that if ostrava is killed he'll drop the key. so i searched all over the place and its not there. :mad:

He got himself killed. Kill him the first time you see him, in NG+. He will drop the mausoleum key. If you save him three times, he will give you a pure clearstone, but there is a crystal lizard that drops it, as well. If you kill him on Mephistopheles's orders, you only get a talisman of beasts, which you can obtain by killin bp Scirvir. Killing him will darken your CT, but you can whiten it by killing named bp NPCs. So kill the bastard!

There really is not way to actually "lose" something in DS since there is always NG+ for you to look forward to. I know, since you are still in your first playthrough this doesn't sound very reassuring but really, it's very simple - and takes very little time - to finish a cycle and start the next one.

So do all the other things that you can and go for the King next time. :)

Oh, sorry. Let me specify. He is harder to actually fight, like, head on.

i usually kite him with magic(soul arrow, homing soul arrow, soul ray), and bow/arrow in hyper mode. takes a while but i wear him down relatively safely and he is still fighting back, unlike when you just poison him.

Fighting him in NG+ was a dangerous gambit. As far as I know he can heal only once per battle but he has a ton of health and can kill you in two hits (if you are not Warded).

A mix of the "cheating" strat and regular combat worked for me. I poisond him and performed hit 'n run attacks until he got REALLY low on HP, then moved in for the kill.

As for the OP, as I said, you can always tackle him in NG+ friend.

I take everything in game head on, Scrvir and Satsuki BP in NG++ without shield as well, but fighting old King head on is just plain time wasting. You'd have to go through thousands of hp and one miss timed swing could mean ur death or his fully healed hp.

Poison and move on.

Not sure if this is a dumb ass question, but can you kill Ostrava in the Nexus to get the key. I just saved his sorry ass in NG last night and am a bit gutted to find out that I am too late. I followed his stupid ass last night for a while after saving him delibarating whether or not to kill him.

Is the king really difficult if I kill Ostrava at the start of NG+ then go straight for him?

Ok.. a very easy strat to kill the King Doran is to use the thief ring and clever rats ring. Go into hyper mode...have the king chase you out to the bridge. Retreat from him so he starts to turn back. From there walk up on him and stab him in the back (a +5 marrowstone weapon adds to the damage). Rinse and repeat....

If you want to be gutsy, (lock on) you can stab him then quickly stand over his downed body and cast souls sucker. (in theory, time as he gets up and tries to swing, sould sucker would have completed). Let me know how it goes if you try to 1 ~ 2 KO :lol:

I just wanted to let the OP know that I went back into 1-3 last night and found Ostravia just wandering about fighting NPCs.

I had already got the stone from him so I killed him and got the key so the King is going down tonight :devil:

One thing that may have helped was that after I found Ostravia and we killed the knights I left the level because I had a lot of souls so left the level.

Or, if you're like me, you want Dark CT, but you feel really bad when you kill NPC's. Somehow, I don't feel bad if I just let him die instead.

There is always a chance Ostrava might not show up, although helping him earlier. Happened to me in NG+ in 1-3, he simply didn't show up. Probably got himself killed after i talked to him in 1-2... i did the King in the first Walkthrough (got a girl, wanted the ring) and he was quite a challenge. I soon realized 1 on 1 would lead me nowhere... but the thief's ring run tactics works fairly well. Still had to backstab him like a dozen times...

i was so freakin mad when i figured out ostrava glitched up. my whole purpose in that game was to get NR, and when i figured out i wouldnt be able to until ng++, i just said "screw it im starting a new game" and then killed him on first site next game. felt good.

Actually if you have soul sucker all you have to do is get him to half where he says his bit about recognizing your skill then he just stands there. At that point you should just be able to walk up to him and suck away and he won't even try to retaliate because you haven't attacked him again yet.

yikes. lol. anyway, about old king doran I think he's probably the hardest melee fight in the game since blocking does no good, even a +5 tower could take 1 hit and still let lots of magic damage through. Still, to do it feels so good. Took me probably 15 tries, but it was worth it in the end... but next time I'll just use poison/death cloud

why even play the game?

you probably havent played this game that much with a statement like that. after several characters and many ng+'s the hardest parts of this game are the only thing thats fun anymore.

I’m currently at the 1-4 penetrator archstone. I had already cleared 1-3 but went back to 1-3 to rescue the witch. I basically rescued the witch and went back to the Nexus. I have not seen Ostrava since beating the 1-4 boss. I’m assuming that Ostrava is now waiting to make his last appearance until after the blue dragon which should be next.

But I’m wondering if Ostrava is now dead because I did not check on him when I went back to 1-3 to rescue the witch – I only killed the two wolves by the fountain and then went off to the side to rescue the witch and then headed back to the Nexus. And Ostrava is no longer there. Either Ostrava is waiting until after I handle the blue dragon or the three guys at the top of the stairs after the fountain did him in.

How do I know if Ostrava is still alive and waiting? (I want his freggin key!)

did you save him from the 2 red eye phantoms after you get on the other side of the large gate to kill the fatty minister? if not then he was killed by the 2 red eyes and would have dropped the key in the first hallway. but you would have lost it if you left the stage. same thing happened to me. i heard the "help!" didnt think much of it since i was too week to kill the fat minister quickly. the help stopped and i opened the gate and was attacked by the 2 red eye guys. never even thought about back tracking. :frown:
