4-3 boss

Hey all. So, last night I finally did Old Hero... that was pretty cool. I got naked, put on a theif's ring, enchanted my Meat Cleaver and took that blind fool out. I then proceeded to do some 4-2 farming which is AWESOME I think I gained 10 levels in no time (@40k/SL and 15k Soul per run)

...anyway, I was feeling pretty good and figured I'd continue to 4-3. Now, bear in mind that I like to explore something for myself first and try to figure it out before getting help - be it BluP or reading a wiki.

So I walked into 4-3... without a bow. Or projectile magic. Oops. Haha anyway, I tried it a couple times, I think I'll beat it tonight, but I'm still unsure how to damage that giant manta ray... it did a couple fly-bys and I was targetting and shooting but no damage was being done. Is it possible to melee this thing? Somehow I doubt it.

You'll find an interesting item on the farthest end of the arena from where you enter. It's down on the bluffs to your left, out in the open.
