What's the deal with this character? Did she figure out that the Old One and "God" were one and the same? Is that why she let herself be killed/suicides? I don't quite get what her archstone's description is saying. How would taking on a demon's soul ease the wretched people's suffering?
When I first heard the filthy woman describe her, I thought she was going to be some vicious witch/succubus type of character that's charmed Garl. But she was just a normal human. Now that I think about it, I'm guessing the filthy woman probably was actually delusional and that she was driven mad by the death of her son. Is there more back story to Astraea and Garl?
I loved Astrea and Garl's characters. Most of their story is, if anything, displayed in the atmosphere of the final area of the Valley. You see their worshipers across the cliffs, but also the horrors of the valley still in effect, despite their obvious efforts. Added to this, is also shows you their struggle for solitude with the wall of corpses, no doubt from those who attempted to force the saint back, only to be met with Garl's massive weapon.
Astrea went into the valley, and took on the power of the demon in order to help those very worshipers. She lost her innocence, and humanity to do so, but as is apparent by all her followers, she did succeed in making their lives more tolerable, even if it's likely more an addiction to her power, than any real healing property.
Why she kills herself, as with a lot of what I mentioned, is open to interpretation. I believe she likely did so because she had no will to live without Garl Vinland. He was, at the very least, her only sane companion in such a defiled land, and likely something much more. Without him, and seeing her power have such a minimal effect on the land around her, she probably could not stand to keep going.

Everything in this game has story...alot of it just placed where it's overlooked (Archstones) or from their character dialogue...which is usually not much in boss fights.
Some equipment also has bits of story.
The Adjudicator use to be some form of "good devine judge"...I still wanna know how it got it's own sword stuck into it's fat belly, it musta rolled a natural one at some point.

I assumed the filthy woman was an angry psychopath and considered killing her. Then I was bitten by plague rats. Luckily I hadn't killed her. Anyway she doesn't have to be honest. So yeah.

I almost want to ask how you enjoyed the game.

The story doesn't smother you like in all other RPGs. It is there, left for you in item descriptions, character dialogue, and archstones descriptions.
Don't get some people started on the Large Sword of Moonlight description.

I don't think Ajudicator "went bad" or anything, the shadowmen bring it dead people for the golden crow to decides which ones the fat guy should eat for souls and which are going to get buried in the tomb below so the reapers can summon 'em.
There's nothing "good" about any of that, the guy's a major demon after all.
