Awrighty,
I got my 1st taste of pwnage at the weekend there by being both beaten and winning.
I haven't really looked at my stats and weapons for this and am looking for some advice. I am still on my 1st playthrough and sitting around lvl 30 something.
Has anyone got any tips or ideas I can follow or any good sites to readup on this subject?

Play play and play, the best way to get good at something is to do it until you are good at it.
I myself hate pvp but I've only ever lost to an invader in the old monk fight...apparently the old monk fight has some weird SL restrictions allowing much more powerful people to fight you. I got 1 shotted as soon as I entered from a normal swing.
At 30 your mostly gonna be fighting weaker melee types, and possible mage types. All you can do against mages at your level is mostly dodge and hope to close the distance while they eat spices.
Melee it's really gonna come down to player skill, timing, and whether or not lag hates you more.

Rolling and baiting. Honestly these are the two most powerful things in pvp.
If you know how to roll properly (both direction, and timing) being hit becomes a very hard challenge for your opponent to master. Especially due to the fact you're practically invulnerable during your roll. A smart player will move to where your roll ends however, but thats going to be rare.
Baiting is another good one. Take a day and clear a level and look over it. You'll find so many places that are ideal for ambush, both as host and blue phantom. Convince the other player you're running away and most will swap to 2h to go for the better kill, or start sprinting. Turn around and start swinging at the last minute and you'll get a bunch of hits in.

If I go for rolling a lot then I take it some nice light armour would be good. I have the leather armour that I started with as a thief, what would be another good set?

The set of Leather armor sold by Blige is a little heavier and tougher than the Black outfit Thieves start with and looks really cool except for the helmet. That's what mine's wearing now.
On the other hand I've had even worse luck than normal in PvP when wearing light armor. Normally I wear one of the heavy plate sets and just have really high END for full mobility.
Where light armor shines, I think, is when you're relying on a shield. Your armor defenses don't get tested anyway, and it has faster regeneration than plate.

General guide for pvp
Equipped the optimize Armour set based on 50% of your endurance. You need to be able to move and groove.
Damage is freaking important, get ready the right weapon for your build before you pvp, at least 300+ and above.
For started, give yourself some vit to survive attack, so you'll be able to learn from other opponent. You ain't want to die without knowing what just happen.
Start pvp around 70 range, that should give you some decent stats for pvp. Don't go 100+ now, you will put your self in a very bad position with pros, and die without knowing what hit you.
Lastly, pvp as much as possible, start as Blue phantom, move to Black once you get some understanding of pvp, because Black can have higher learning curve and pvp combat rounds. Thus improve and learn faster.
Good Luck! I'll see you in the Arena.

I am too new to this just now. What stat on my armour tells me how much END I need? And, if its under 50% does that mean I can roll with speed?

That is nearly 200 away from my current weapons, how do I start to move closer to 300? Is it a combination of AGI and upgrading weapons?

How do I PVP as a blue phantom? I take it thats a friendly PVP where you don't lose things?
Oh, and @Dominions, I could always wear the extremely funky Monk's head collar :surprise: That dropped for me yesterday, is this thing completely useless?

to answer your last question first, the hat from the monk fight is for mages, it gives a bonus to magic damage, but lowers your magic defense.
what he means by 50%, is your equip weight total. if the total weight of what you have equipped is 50% or lower than your maximum equip weight, then you can run faster and roll easier. personally i use the black leather set since no matter what shield/weapons i use after that, i will be below the 50% mark.
as far as weapon damage goes, when you upgrade a weapon, depending on what tree you upgrade it with, it will get bonus damage from your stats. if you have a high strength stat, go with the greystones to get the crushing attribute. if you have high dex, go with bladestones for the sharp attribute. you will have to research the other ores to see what stats they go with in order to find the right one for your build. the two i listed will both have a S rating once you get them to +5 which is the best rating for that weapon.
you pvp as a blue phantom when the host you are helping is invaded. there are a couple of ways to pvp in this game, first, you are the host of a map, and somebody invades you. second, you are a blue phantom on a map and your host is invaded. third, you invade somebody's map. fourth, you use a red eye stone and are summoned into somebody else's game for a duel.

The reason to start as blue is you have at least a host backing you, 2 player versus 1 (invader). Chances of winning is higher, and you get some exposure on PVP. The pvp rate is much lower per hour, but gets you the minimum basic.
Seriously, I don't know you have risk on losing soul level, as I play only twice as Blue phantom before going bp, but I guess the similar rules applies if you die by the dot, or get soul sucked. I don't think you lost experience if killed by environment. Someone have to help on this.

I started wondering how the Black Eye Stone could help me clear the missions I was in. I think it might make an interesting emergency teleport/heal if I use it right before entering a fight I know to be dangerous.
If you invade and win, you get your body back (with full HP and MP) and go back to the start of the area but keep all of your current progress. This saved my butt from a couple assassins last night in 1-3.
If I had lost, I would come back with full HP and MP for soul form... I'm not sure if I would have to re-do the area I'm in from the start. Dying as a Blue Phantom puts me right back where I was when I was summoned with all my progress in the area restored, I assume dying as a Black phantom is the same.
What about banish or disconnects? I don't win or lose. Would I come back to my own world with full HP/MP or just what I had left over at the time?

Just rememer one thing, PvP affects both your World Tendincey and Character Tendincy when using your Black eyed stone (Killing Blue Phantom helpers lowers WT to black by 15%. CT for killing Host or Blue Phanoms each 40% towards black) If you die by the enviroment while you're invading you lose a SL.
Your CT as a blue phantom goes to white 40% if you kill the BP invader. In body form it will affect both WT and CT. (death 30% to black WT no CT change, Killin invading BP WT +30% white CT +40% white.)

I think being able to move is the most important thing. Damage is definitely important but if you can't move you'll be killed in no time.
I can't tell you how many people come in with their heavy armor and I whack them, get their HP low and try to "run" away from me cuz they can't roll. Easy backstab and easy kill. If they try to hit me after I sprint (like they started to bait me), I usually roll past them and continue my attack.
I think for banish your HP will still be full, but I don't know about disconnects.

Interesting, so meaning to say if I play host I have a chance of changing my world from White to Pure white even if I've killed all the bosses in that world. Sweet Information Dude.

If you go 2h, be aggressive. Don't sacrifice your defense and then try to play defensive. it doesn't work. Pressure them, chase them, but don't leave yourself open when you run out of Stam. NEVER turn around and run, that's asking to be backstabbed.
Roll around, bait their attacks and then counter with some of your own.
Upgrade your weapons so you don't hit like a pansy.
Oh, and camping for BP's in 4-2 is an easy way to get PWCT.

... sweet, except you can't host if you've killed all bosses in a world.
