Interesting. The Red Alert universe > the Tiberium universe from what I've played of the series so far. I do like the Tiberium universe though.

I can't even keep track of C&C anymore. How many different "universes" are there now?

Sei
05-17-2008, 10:29 PM
^ It is the same universe. Or was in westwood times, Red Alert is a prequel into how Nod and GDI came to be.

It is supposed to be the cold war in the Command and Conquer universe.

So just the main and the Generals one, which is an EA bastardization without plot or characters, so we can say that it occurs in the need for speed universe.

No big deal. RTS = Play on PC only.Atleast it works best on the PC. Starcraft for the N64 was the last good RTS port.

I can't even keep track of C&C anymore. How many different "universes" are there now?
There are now three.

It started with with just one, The Tiberium/Red Alert universe.
Then Generals came around and added a second.
And then it was announced by EA that the Tiberium/Red Alert universes separated.

So, officially three.

Also, <3 C&C.

Continuing the C&C franchise in excellent style, while retaining its campyness.

Defending the industry exceptionally well when others wouldn't (Mass Effect).

And attempting to change the industry for the better (EA CEO's been making steps to correct the company's past mistakes).

Sei

Trying to buy Take 2, and Ubisoft, against their wishes, releasing crappy rooster update sequel after another and Kane's wrath sucking.

Also, they kind of killed Westwood, which, you know, made C&C when it was good. (cept for tiberium war, never quite liked that one)

And, I dunno whether to blame em for the crappy DLC for Mass Effect but I have trouble believing they wont kill/screw up Bioware somehow.

Business will be Business. Take Two is a smaller publisher with an excellent franchise. EA is a bigger publisher with a huge budget. Of course they are going to want to own Take Two.

You're second comment, I can't understand.

Kane's Wrath sucked? Elaborate. I've been playing C&C since 95, and I thoroughly enjoyed KW.

Westwood sold out to EA, they didn't do well with Generals, so EA closed them down. Did I mention that EA's trying to fix its past mistakes?

And besides, you make it sound like NO other company does these kinds of things.

Business will be Business. Take Two is a smaller publisher with an excellent franchise. EA is a bigger publisher with a huge budget. Of course they are going to want to own Take Two.

It is this attitude that leads to hell. Ea has bought countless developers and screwed them up. Forcefully attempting to buy Developers that do NOT want to be bought, would not suggest that they have changed their ways.

The working conditions at EA are legendarily bad, and as someone interested in the industry, I find that disturbing (just google EA lawsuit, and yes, while it has been settled, having to go to court to get decent working conditions only improves as much as required to match the settlement and denotes a terrible corporate culture.)

I found Command and Conquer 3 and Kane's Wrath in particular to be "about nothing" no real plot, unlike the other C&C's, there is no real conclusion either, and there are details, like the Scrin faction that got no campaign in the original that indicate that the game was cut short. I was looking for this to be fixed in Wrath, but it wasn't, just more non plot without a conclusion. Being a fan of the intricate, fully realized plots of the Westwood efforts (cept for generals which is also "about nothing"), this really dissapointed me.

And this is why I'd say I particularly dislike EA, the games have no plot, no soul, no characters or spirit, they are (more often than not) minimal updates to the rooster or to a formula that they can figure they can milk forever. Compare Capcom's Marvel games, and Rise of the imperfects, Compare Namco's flying games, and those of EA. Compare the 2k Football games (when they existed, before the exclusivity thing) and those of EA.

There is just no creativity whatsoever, no storytelling, and no real advancements in gameplay or really anything else. And that is without touching the excess of Ads in every EA game that can fit them in, and innovations such as the proposed "Charging for weapons in the new battlefield" thing that was scrapped.

And besides, you make it sound like NO other company does these kinds of things.

Where? I said I h8 Ea, and then I elaborated, I haven't touched the business practices of any other companies.

But to be fair, I haven't come across business practices that I find as bad either. Certainly not from companies which games I buy, at any rate.

There is a Scrin campaign in C&C3, you have to beat the other 2 first...

Sei

^ I meant proper campaign, a la GDI/NOD. There are 4 scrin missions with barely any plot, that feel rather tacked on.

I count them more as random bonus missions than an actual campaign. But yes, they are there.

Why is she wearing hotpants?

Andrew_Fireborn
01-27-2009, 08:26 PM
She's wearing hot pants because basically every female in a cut scene is bordering on under dressed...

If the fact that they're selling to the sweaty nerd base isn't clear enough: The game is the worst C&C I've played. The campaign missions saddle you with an AI partner, who ranges from "Doing the mission for you" to "Liability, if only because he takes up half your income and more than half your innitial space."

Its the first game in a long time that I've fully regretted purchasing.

SlaughterX
01-27-2009, 08:31 PM
Maybe you should have tried playing it cooperatively with someone you know? I know it's easier said than done though, I don't like the way the friends system is set-up.

Vincent Alexander
01-28-2009, 02:10 AM
I've played co-op on the hardest difficulty with the AI and with a friend, and both are a blast---definitely the best C&C so far. But definitely don't buy it for PS3. Any RTS I've ever played on a console is god awful.

I really wanted the PC version but #### DRM.

SlaughterX
01-28-2009, 12:00 PM
The DRM is no big deal, it's something you're going to have to deal with as a PC gamer, but the "issues" are completely over blown.

Sseklebeast
01-28-2009, 05:35 PM
^That's quite alright but if they remove it like they did with Bioshock then I'll get it.

SlaughterX
01-28-2009, 05:57 PM
They didn't remove it, they just changed the amount of times you could install it. Once you install the game and link the serial to your account you have nothing to worry about, but please do continue to whine about meaningless things if it makes you feel better.

Vincent Alexander
01-28-2009, 10:37 PM
Ya, the DRM is nothin'.

EvilHero
01-28-2009, 11:34 PM
How's the console version of this game?

I'm interested in it as a console game. I don't really care to play it on the PC. It looks like an interesting game though.

Vincent Alexander
01-28-2009, 11:38 PM
The only problem with it on console are the actual controls. So, I guess it just comes down to preference: keyboard and mouse or gamepad. Generally though for RTS games, it is much harder to control with a gamepad. I know many people who prefer console though.

EvilHero
01-28-2009, 11:41 PM
Yeah, that was my only worry. I'm wondering how well it plays with the controller, if its even playable at all?

I have this game. My favorite fraction is, Empire of the Rising Sun. Because I'm good at this, I am Japanophile (due to my Asian ethinicty), future combat vehicles and equipments such as esper, sci-fi samurai like jedi, an rifle look-like Halo's assault rifle and Solar Empire's rifle man infantry weapon from Battalion Wars, laser beam attack, and it using mecha unit like Robotech (US dub which is based on Macross), Gundam, Macross, Super Robot, and Real Robot.
