View Full Version : NPC artwork vs what they really look like

I noticed that the artwork depicting some of the NPCs during the loading screens look nothing like their character models in the game. For example Saint Urbain looks awesome in the loading screen but when I rescued him his face looked totaly different. He looks more like a bumbling monk than the grim determined soldier of God shown in the loading screens. Sage Freke was the same letdown. I was expecting Wanderer Scirver to be awesome because I think he was the most awesome pose of all the NPC's. Then I meet him and he is a stuttering hunched over re-used Patches character model with white hair instead. I also expected to Yurt to be mute... Anyone else notice these things?

Yeah, I noticed this too. I thought they did a good job with Yuria, Yurt and Wax Face though.

The NPCs look great to me and Scirvir definitely doesn't look like Patches. I killed bp Scirvir twice already and Patches is my go-to arrow guy--I should know. :)

Unfortunately those are there in game models, there just depected from different angles with better lighting and their expression are probably better to.
It's Why Yuria...whose hat covers most her face, and is depicted from the back looks fine.
Miralda whose completely covered looks...completely covered.

Yeah because you don't see their faces in the loading screens.

I also noticed...no one moves their lips when they talk...it's kinda eerie.

I had this problem with Patches at first. I mean for Doran's sake look at him! http://www.nineworks.pe.kr/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/patches.jpg
Thats the coolest pose out of all the "heroes" of Boletaria (save maybe Yuria.) But then when you meet him, he looks more like Patches the Weasel than anything else.
But then, you know, I got over it.

Yeah, I noticed this too. I suppose it would've been too much trouble to add the animations when most of the time their faces are too small to see details like that or covered.

That's a joke isn't it?
...Everyone looks like Solid Snake in the artwork. For some reason.

Which artwork? I have the booklet with concept art and I'm not sure what you're talking about. The art in the load screens is CG and those 3d models are pretty much the same as the in-game models except with more polygons and higher-res textures.

The coolest pose in all the heroes looks like a guy about to poop?
I dunno if I'm buying it.

The load screen artwork. My brother disagrees so it's probably just me, but they've all got Solid Snake's facial hair. Or Big Boss's. Urbain's face looks exactly like Snake's though. Only with a dorky haircut.

I think the load screens show them before entering Boletaria. So when you find them you get to se what the demon's have done to them. Scirvir turned into a weasaly gray haried man, Saint Urbain and Sage Freke weekended and Urbain corrupted. I think it works perfectly. By the way has anybody else noticed that Urbain and Freke are twins or at least brothers? Freke used to be a Saint also. Then he left when he learned of the churches corruption and Urbain hates him for it. (I came to this conclusion based on the official Demon's souls NPC info and from dialouge in the game.)

When they scaled those cg models down, some details must have been lost in translation.
