So, I'm winding down my first playthrough. For my weapon I'm using crescent falchion +4 atm. I got the Phos. Pole to +5, but for some reason that falchion owns in terms of damage(over 400 a hit) It does more damage than my main spell, Soul Ray. I've got the Talisman of Beasts thx to the Haloween event. Shields, I'm using Purple Flame Shield +5 & Dark Heater Shield +3. I can't seem to find anything suitable to replace my original wizard clothes. Any advice? I'd like to mix in some PVP soon. My main stats are Magic 45, Intl 25, Str 22, Dex 16, Faith 18.

I'm wearing Black Leather with my Magic based character - You lose a point in armor, but it weighs less and has better Poison Resistance. Depending on where your Vit. is at, you will want to keep the Dark Silver Shield handy - You won't get past the second Reaper spawns in 4-2 otherwise in NG+.
If you are pumping Magic, you should consider going Moon instead of Crescent - You lose the MP regen, but Spice is cheap and you'll do more damage. I'm using a Moon Winged Spear +5 and am happy with it - I may lose some points compared to other choices, but being able to keep the Shield up during melee attacks is key for my low Vit. build. Not sure if you use a bow, but they are a great asset to the Mage - With a Sticky +5 and a Dex of around 30, you'll do good damage.

My vitality is actually around 20. Not too low. I was using a winged spear for the longest time. But then I found the crescent falchion, upgraded it and it was doing ridiculous damage. So, I stuck with it. I'll take my wing spear up the moon upgrade tree and see how it does. I don't really care about the MP regen b/c I pump to much magic for any regen to keep up. I use lots of spice. For a bow I'm using the lava bow. Even with my low Dex it does a nice little chunk of damage to foes who aren't within range for magic yet.
What about the Phosphorescent Pole? I have it up to +5 and it seems rather unimpressive. Anyone actually find this thing useful for anything but a regen device?

Your vitality is 20?
What soul lvl are you?
20 vitality is really low, you should get it higher before NG+.

Black leather rules. Altho, if you don't mind teh ugly, Doran's armor provides better physical and fire protection at the cost of the BL's awesome poison resistance. But you can always keep the kinky leather around for 5-2!

Sounds all good. One of the main reasons for me using the Moon Winged +5 is staying behind my Purple Flame +10 at all times seeing I'm keeping my Vit. at 8 until I max out Magic, Faith, Intelligence and Dexterity. Karkarov has a much better understanding of the wepaons than I do, but I do believe that Moon will outperform Crescent long-term with a high magic - Hopefully he will see this thread and comment on it for us.
You are going to find out in NG+ and beyond that the Lava Bow won't be doing much for you. So long term, you will want a Sticky Long Bow +5 as it will do much more damage. Keep that in the back of your mind as you progress as you may want to add points to Dex. here and there until it's at 30 - I'm doing 500-700 damage(Dep. on Distance) in Hyper with Clever Rat's and Morion equipped and a Dex. of around 38. The Phosphorescent won't do nearly the damage the other weapons we are discussing will as far as I can tell.

I think I read somewhere that moon do more damage than crescent. I could see how if you had your str & dex up there, but for just magic alone, the crescent weapons scale much more with your magic stat. I have a moon flamberge and from the tests I've done so far my crescent falchion outperforms the hell out of it.

Where do I find the black leather? The vendor near the 1st reaper has leather armor, but it doesn't look black.

I believe there's a set of Black Leather on one of the bodies inside an iron maiden in 3-1.

you can kill the first one with bow/arrow from the ledge above him and not take any damage. the second you can run past or wrath of god him through the wall. the third you can run/roll dodge past(hard to do), wrath him through the wall, or kill him with magic or a bow(dangerous). you certainly do not need the dark silver shield to get past them.

However, just pressing block is much simpler than all the tactics you just described :P And its such an easy shield to get! Oh Emo Vinland, don't kill yourself.

No, you don't need it Balfour, but it sure as hell makes life a lot easier - And I was referring to a Low Vit. build with Purple Flame typically equipped. The problem is always that third one, sometimes you can't get by him quickly and the second one respawns and shoots out the death ray. The Dark Silver is guaranteed to get me through there instead of relying on chance - The two gold skeletons now run when they see me coming because I've killed them so many times trying to get past that second reaper without Dark Silver in NG+ and above....Seriously - Right off the cliff.....:D

Where can one obtain the moon Falchion? I have the crescent but the moon does more damage. Where can I get it? I'm on my second playthrough (near the end) so it's odd that I don't have it yet. I must be missing it or something....

You'll have to make it yourself. And I'm not certain, but I don't believe falchions have the option to get a moon version anyway.
Crescent will also outperform moon once your magic stat is high enough. If it's low though, moon is better.

Get a shield, I use the adjudicator once I obtain it, Like someone said, snipe the first one as you come into the level. The second one I can never find unless I do that stage backwards. The third one, raise your shield, let his minion spray you as you sneaking up on them, then quick left turn and start swinging. I also 2 hand my halberd just b4 I make that quick left turn. Also helps if you have warding on :)

According to the wiki there is a moon falchion and it does more damage than the crescent:

Can I convert a crescent falchion to a moon?

Ah, I see. One thing you should know though, while moon does have higher base stats, it only gives a C bonus for magic at +5 while the Crescent gives an A bonus. That's why I say early on, a moon weapon will outperform a crescent but once your magic stat gets high enough crescent will deal more.
Unfortunately you cannot convert a weapon of one type to another. If you want, you can use a shard of meltstone to make it a falchion, and then up it to +6 and then upgrade it to the moon path.
It would be a lot easier just to buy another Falchion from Blige, though.

Bought the Falchion and am using the moonlightstone from my first playthrough to get to falchion moon +5. I see what you mean by the stat boost. I am at 30 magic right now. Do you know how high the magic stat needs to be for the crescent to outperform the moon?

I dont know the exact break even point but you can say that from 60 points in Magic, crescent does more damage (additionally to the nice MP regen).

Probably by seeing Ed and using the meltstone, then upgrading with moonlightstone

I thought the lava bow's damage scaled with magic. Is this not true?
30 points in Dex for a mage seems silly if you plan on maxing out at 120....if you don't care what level you end up at, then by all means go for it.
From the English Demon's Souls Wiki:
"While not listed in its stats, the Lava Bow does apply an additional 100 Fire damage to all arrows it fires. This fire damage scales with Magic."

Actually I had to buy one from Patches in the hallway of 4-2. One thing I LOVE about the Falchion is the speed. That sword is wicked fast!

to be perfectly honest, the easiest way to deal with the third reaper is by tossing soul remains, he freaks and starts blasting away at them and you can just walk up and drop him. that same tactic also works for the second reaper. using that strategy, i beat 4-2 with a level 1 character.

I'm pretty sure the OP has figured everything out by now. Considering it was several months ago that he asked this. He's probably triple hypermoding 1-shot HSA Dragon God in NG+13 by now.

HA HA....wish I could be that way....lol
My prob with that level is I can never figure out where the second reaper is, I kill the spook reapers or whatever you call them but never seem to find the reaper. Gonna try the soul remains trick and see if I can hunt the reaper :D
