First off all, sorry, I know you all get tons of these newb-ish 'what should I do with this soul' type threads but.. just one more? :p
What should I do with the Dragon God's soul? Firestorm, Fireball, or God's Wrath?
Obviously you need to know about my character: He's a pure magic user build (INT and MAG) that's focused on magic but that will end up using some miracles as well (though likely to a lesser extent).
I think the obvious obvious choice is between Firestorm and God's Wrath - Fireball just doesn't seem that good to me, but then again I've never learned it so I don't really know. Out of those two (or three if someone informs me that Fireball is in fact a good spell worthy of the soul), which would be the better choice for a primarily magic based character but who will also use some miracles?
Purely on aesthetics, Firestorm wins. >.>
Seriously, though, that's a bit of a tough call. I'd probably skip Fireball until a second or third playthrough, mostly because while it is a solid spell, with very nice splash damage, it's still to similar in functionality to what you likely already have. Both Firestorm and God's Wrath are powerful AoE's, with Firestorm edging out in damage so long as it gets multiple hits, and God's Wrath winning in range. Personally, my magic character is also a melee fighter, so the fact they were AoE's was very important to me, and I'd say even as a pure-mage, it'll come in handy.
Between Firestorm and God's Wrath though, you'll likely find it's somewhat of a faction divide. Some people swear by one, some by the other. Personally, I'll always like Firestorm more. Sure, it can be a little unpredictable, but it just looks so cool, and God's Wrath is, for lack of a better word, bland. Firestorm also has the benefit of being fire damage, rather than straight magic, so it's able to damage dark silver as well, though it will fall short against Water Veil.
But hey, I'm somewhat of a closet-pyro. You give me the option between a silver shockwave, and pillars of fire, I'll always take the pillars of fire. That, and I don't like Urbain at all, one of these days I'll Umbasa him straight out of the Nexus. >.>

God's wrath to farm the crystal geckos in the cave in 2-2. You jump in the middle of their cave, invoke the miracle (I have to do it several times, eating spice quickly and re-invoking...the geckos get stunned each time.) Collect *all* the loot. It will make the acquisition of certain trophies much faster. It feels really satisfying killing so many of those annoying geckos at once!

Can other AoE spells (like the obvious Firestorm) not accomplish this as well? I haven't been near the gecko 'nest' because I've been waiting to get a powerful AoE spell to wipe them out like everyone suggests.
Also thank you Syra. That's a very helpful post. (That's not internet sarcasm, by the way.)

God's wrath is less powerful but has a bigger radius.

I see. Do you think Firestorm has a large enough radius to hit all the geckos (or at least the majority of them)?

The strategy guide recommended God's wrath because of the greater radius...so I haven't even tried Firestorm in the gecko cave. Maybe, someone else can answer your question.

Thanks anyhow. I think I may end up going with Firestorm this time through and get God's Wrath on NG+.

Since you're pure mage, you won't have to worry about ores so much, so God's Wrath isn't THAT necessary. God's Wrath is guaranteed to kill all of the geckos, firestorm sometimes misses one or two (depending on positioning)
I'd suggest firestorm, because on ng+ you'll be 2hkoing maneaters, leechmongers, and dirty colossi....

The ores are for trophies and in NG+, he will have both. :)

Well if you want trophies and want all that ore, go with god's wrath
If you want your ng+ to be easier, go ahead and get firestorm.

I just had to jump in and say thank you. I'm so tired of hearing "Umbasa".... ugh!

You'll have both early in NG+, so it really doesn'y matter - They are both good and useful. One plus of God's Wrath is that it goes through walls. This can be particularly useful in certain places like the three Red-Eyed Knights you face in 1-3 on your way to open the Gate.

Amen.
I went with Firestorm as you seem to have done. Only my line of thinking was different. I picked it because I picked all of Yuria's spells over any other uses for those souls. Because I'd have to wait longer to see her again in NG+. And because she's adorable.

the going through walls thing is the best part about god's wrath. you can use it to ambush both PvE monsters and enemy players by killing them through walls before they even see where you are.

You don't have to wait in NG+ if you don't want to. And the adorable part is open for debate.... :p

Yeah, I chose Firestorm. I'll grab God's Wrath on NG+.
So far, I've been making pretty good use of it. It's great to be able to kill a mob of enemies in one spell.
Thanks to all who answered and contributed. :)

You will if you spend certain demon's souls on Freke or Urbain.
And no it's not. >:|

Don't particularly want to create a new topic, so I'll just continue this thread: Keeping in mind my character is basically a pure magic user, do you think it's worth upgrading my Kris Blade to +5? I've only got two Colorless Demon's Souls at the moment (the two from world 1), and I'm fairly sure you can only get ten per game, so spending five of them would be quite a lot.
Also, is a bonus of 'S' the highest? I know the Kris Blade gets an 'S' bonus to magic at +5. I'm counting on my magic stat being very high (I'll likely max it out), so will the bonus affect the weapon's power considerably?

I was referring to the fact that you can go directly to 1-3 from 1-2 in NG+ without killing an Archdemon first.

'S' is the highest bonus rating, and affects the weapon considerably. I want this Kris Blade also. Where did you find it? Is it the part where you better run over the planks before they fall in world 2? I hope not, cause I fell through and may have to wait until NG+ for that. I would rank that up If I were you.

No, it's in 2-1, but not there. Keep looking, you'll find it - It is accessible on a corpse.

Those planks are replaced when you rezone into that area, so you should be able to make it if you sprint across.
Concerning the Kriss Blade, you can find it around the elevator that you need to take to go down where the Armored Spider is, the 2-1 Major Demon. To the left of the elevator is a slope of wooden planks, walk up there and you will see a pickup laying around a corpse, that is the Kris Blade

I have god's wrath and fireball simply because i forgot to go and get Yuria The Witch!
Get god's wrath and make sure ur magic stastics are about...... 25 - 30
I seem to be in the minority here; I went with fireball. I didn't go for fireball for any thought out min / max statistical reason... I went with fireball because it just would have felt so, so wrong to play a mage, and not be able to hurl giant balls of fire at things!
Fireball is just such a staple fantasy spell, you know? How could I be a self respecting mage and not be able to cast it? Had to have it as soon as I could get it. My magic is currently at 39 and I'm finding it very handy. :)

Excelent thinking Nyx, my thoughts exactly. You can always get God's Wrath on your second playtrough. It is an advanced miracle anyway, it takes up 2 miracle slots and costs 100MP to cast.

Firestorm is unquestionably the most broken spell in the game. If you have a magic-heavy build and you like killing bosses in one shot, that's the way to go. Say "Hi" to the Maneater for me...
Get god's wrath and make sure ur magic stastics are about...... 25 - 30
Two things stand out to me here:
1) God's Wrath is a Miracle, and it's not based on your Magic power at all, so far as I know.
2) Someone named Saint Lucifer is advising you to employ the wrath of God in your game. Irony much? >_>

No, in my experience, I can't kill all of them with firestorm.
I missed 3, I think? I didn't have a problem getting hard and sharpstone chunks, though, which is what they give. Maybe clearstone too? I don't know.
Anyway, I fubared the nest runs, killed maybe 10 of the 30 possible and still have two +10 hard shields and a +10 weapon.
