Is the Demonbrandt upgradeable?

Soulbdrandt and demonbrandt can be used to make Northern Regalia. The damage stats of these weapons depend on character tendency.

Do I have to kill the Flame Lurker, to make the blacksmith upgrade it?

all soul based upgrades require you beat flamelurker and turn his soul in to the blacksmith

I'm assuming you know is World2-1 blacksmith.

Talk to him, select talk option when your in the upgrade, buy etc etc.. talk 3 times, leave, and talk to him again.
